Mr. Eddie L. "Ezell" Lewis of Durham, NC passed away Tuesday at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC. He was 77 years of age.

The son of the late Elijah, Sr. and Mrs. Ozeal Scott Lewis, Mr. Lewis was born in Columbus, GA. He was a 1956 graduate of Spencer High School and was a U. S. Army Veteran. He was a former member of Mt. Sinai Primitive Baptist Church, and currently at the Church of the Upper Room in Philadelphia, PA . He retired from the Pennsylvania Transit Authority (Septa Railroad) following 32 years of service, and was also a successful businessman. He was the first African American to own and operate a Mr. Salty Ice Cream Truck in Philadelphia, and the first African American to sit at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Round Table. He was an agent in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tony and five siblings.

Survivors include: his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Mac Morrise Andrews Lewis; five children, LaPorsha Lewis (LaTrell), Elton Lewis, Quason Lewis, Macqueline Sparklan, Jacqueline Wilson (Les), Andre Sparklan, and a special daughter, Kijona Lee Thompson; beloved grandchildren; a brother, Michael Lewis (Michelle); three sisters, Lillie Morris, Martha Williams (Joe) and Sandra Miller (Vincent); an aunt and uncle, Veola Jordan and Willie Lewis; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
