Jimmy Lee Jackson was born July 25, 1940 in Troup County, Georgia to the late Levi and Alice Jackson.
 

He was baptized at an early age at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church and remained an active and dedicated member until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He served in several capacities; as Chairman of Council on Ministry, Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Trustee Board and a member of the United Methodist Men.
 

He was united in holy matrimony to the lovely Hazel Byrd on January 9, 1964 and celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past January. To their union six children were born.
 

He graduated Valedictorian from West End High School and continued his education at Clark Atlanta College. While attending West End High School, he was the editor of the school newspaper and a constant leader role model to his peers. Additionally he was a key member of the defending district champion Tigers Basketball Team.
 

He was employed by Georgia Power as a Supervisor and retired in 1996 after 32 years of service. Additionally, he served as Mayor of Hogansville for two consecutive terms, Mayor Pro-Tem, Hogansville City Councilman, Chairman of the City of Hogansville Board of Education, Westside Voters Lead and NAACP. He retired from public service on December 31, 2013 after 28 years of service.
 

Jimmy Lee Jackson departed this life, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at West Georgia Hospice. Loving memories will be cherished by his devoted wife, Hazel; one daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Altonia (Stephanie) Fannin, Toano, VA; five sons, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory (Benita) Jackson, Woodbridge, VA; Councilman and Mrs. Reginald (Valerie) Jackson, Sr., Hogansville, GA; Mr. and Mrs. Rodney (Renee) Jackson, Tyrone, GA; Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Shamika) Jackson, Hogansville, GA; and Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Turkessa) Jackson, McDonough, GA; seventeen grandchildren; Reginald Jr., Bryan, Brandon, Javarious, Braxton, Terrance, Justin, Jalen, Laxavier, Monica, Makayla, Javon, Kobe, Armond, Tyra, Chase and Korey.; one brother –in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Byrd; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jewell Williams; Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Lois) Jenkins; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur (Tommie Ann) Lax; Ms. Jettie Butler, and Mrs. Lorene Byrd.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and after 50 years of separation he found his only first cousin, Stella Jackson- Elleby.
