Melvin (Bro.) Jackson was born on June 8, 1941 to Charlie Philpot and Beulah L. Jackson Gates in Heard County. He passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Melvin Jackson Jr.; five brothers, Clarence and Brinson Gates, Jr., Carl, Robert and Stanley Philpot; two sisters, Rosa Mae Gates and Carol Sewell.

Melvin attended Mary Johnson High School in Heard County. At an early age he joined Harmonia CME Church. He was a dedicated employee of the City of Hogansville for many years where he was well respected by his co-workers.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife of forty-five years, Racine Rhodes Jackson; a devoted son, Dwight Lamar (Brenda) Rhodes; two grandchildren, Kiera B. Rhodes and Dwight R. Rhodes (Hogansville, Ga); five brothers, Tommy Lee (Mary Alice) Jackson, Moreland, Ga., Frank (Noble) Gates, LaGrange, Ga., Alvin Gates, Newnan, Ga., Frank (Sharon) Philpot, Hogansville, Ga., and Charlie Henry Philpot, Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Jennie Lou Hubbard, South bend, Ind., Wanda Williams, Chicago, Ill. and Judy Dallas, North Carolina; two brother in laws, William (Harriett) Rhodes Jr., Dayton, OH and Leroy (Gloria) Rhodes, LaGrange, Ga.; five sister in laws, Sallie Kate Colton, Ruby Melson, Henrietta (Dan) Parks, Brenda (Robert) Boyd and Dorothy (Thomas) Thornton, Hogansville, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
