His Life

On June 24, 1929 in Lee County, Alabama to Joe and Cora Killingworth Brooks, a beautiful bouncing boy was born, whom they named Robert Lee. He was united in holy matrimony to Gertrude Denton Brooks and to this union four lovely children were born – Robert Jr., Abraham, Elizabeth and Marvin.

Robert confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his health failed. He was a member of I Male Adult Sunday School Class, served on the Senior Usher Board, Parking Attendant Committee and faithfully attended bible study. Mr. Brooks also attended the Lanett Senior Citizens Program where he participated in various events and proudly displayed his awards, trophies, medals and certificates.

Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by: his parents; two sons, Abraham Brooks, Robert L. Brooks, Jr.; one grandchild; and, one they reared as a son, Willie Louis Brooks.

His loving memories will be cherished by: his devoted and faithful wife, Gertrude Denton Brooks, Lanett, AL; two children, Elizabeth B. Thompson (Marshall Walden), Indianapolis, IN and Marvin Brooks, Lanett, AL; 18 grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Brooks and Annie T. Bailey both of Lanett, AL; one daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Brooks, Lanett, AL; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Williams, Chattanooga, TN, Ezella Merritt, Baltimore, MD and Jerine Denton, Indianapolis, IN; god-children, Diane (Lonnie) Grisby, Pearl Brooks, Larry (Amelia) Brooks and Tommie (Gwen) Brooks, all of Detroit, MI; and, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends including special friends, Wiley Cammon, Levi Flowers and Henry Lee Goss.
