Her Life
April 14, 2014

Mrs. Atkisson was born in Franklin, Georgia on May 25, 1940, the daughter of the late Onie Spradlin Davis and Amos Buchanan. After graduating from Heard County High School in 1958 she attended nursing school. It was during this time that she developed an interest in the study of cells and tissue samples. Her interest in this field moved her to Wilmington, North Carolina to work for Coastal Carolina Pathology where she was a Histologist. The work that she did, even though behind the scenes prolonged the life of many patients. Her loyalty to professional care, and concern for her patients kept her working till the age of 73. “Miss. Jackie” was a fun loving person who loved her two dogs Co Co and Buddy, Shopping, and Traveling. The joys of her life however were her three children, and eight grandchildren. She was proud of each one and their individual accomplishments. She loved spending many hours cooking special meals for them. Her shining light will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Debra Hill (Brian Hauck) of Castle Hayne, N.C., Deedra Atkisson (Brian Moon) of Birmingham, AL.; one son, Billy Atkisson (Lynn Anderson) of Delco, N.C. daughter-in-love, Amy Atkisson of Birmingham, AL.; nine grandchildren; and five grandchildren.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Joe Ballenger; and step father, Truitt Davis.
