Johnnie Ruth Thompson was born December 15, 1921 in Chambers County, Alabama to the parentage of William and Annie Mae Johnson Carlisle.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Kellum Hill Baptist Church, now Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, in LaFayette, Alabama. She attended the Rosenwald School and later received her GED from the Chambers County School GED Program. In 1940 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. John Thompson, Jr. To this union, were seven children. After moving away and re-locating to Alabama, she united with Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and served as a faithful member until her health failed.

Mrs. Ruth, as she was affectionately known by many, was employed by the Chambers County School System as a cook at Huguley School in Lanett, AL. She later worked with Community Food Service in Valley, AL.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, one daughter, Marcella and two sons, William Henry and Charles Lindsey. Johnnie Ruth Thompson heard and responded to God’s call on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: four children – one son, Marvin (Sylvia) Thompson, Lanett, AL and three daughters, Mary L. Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Shirley A. (Johnny) McGee, Silver Springs, MD and Barbara Thompson, Lanett, AL; one special granddaughter and caregiver, Akeba Thompson, Lanett, AL; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Indiana Huguley, LaFayette, AL; two nieces, Mattie Holloway and Jimmie Carlisle both of LaFayette, AL; and, a host of other relatives and friends.
