Her Life

Kathryn Reed Perkins was born on December 28, 1938 in Chambers County, Alabama to David and Nannie Lue Ingram Reed. She departed this life on Friday, December 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, Douglas G. Reed.

Upon accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, Kathryn joined Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church and worked faithfully as a Vacation Bible School teacher. Kathryn was a 1955 graduate of Lanier High School in Lanett, AL. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education graduating from Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL in 1959. Later, she earned her Masters of Science degree in Elementary Education from Columbus State University, Columbus, GA. Kathryn retired in 2000 after having taught for 40 years as an elementary teacher with the Harris County School System. A lifelong educator, she could not turn completely away from the classroom. Upon retirement from Harris County Schools, she taught at W. O. Lance (Central) Elementary School, Lanett, AL for a year and remained in the school system as a substitute teacher until 2012. During her lifetime, she was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and received many awards of recognition including 50+ years of service to the Bowen East District Association and Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, Teacher of the Year for Park Elementary and perfect attendance for Park Elementary and Harris Elementary Schools.

Kathryn leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted son, Frederick Bernard Perkins, Lanett, AL; one aunt, Willie Mae Perry Ingram, Augusta, GA; devoted cousins, Betty Sue (Alfred) Lyons, and Blake (Brenda) Fears both of Lanett, AL, Mary Helen Graham, Columbus, GA and Odessa Scott, Salem, AL; her best friend and sorority sister, Martha Shipman, West Point, GA; and, an array of cousins and friends.
