Her Life

Mrs. Bertha Mae Madden Smith was born in Lee County, Alabama on October 18, 1939 to the late Willie James Madden and Bertha Lee Hinkle Madden.  On February 14, 2012 she departed this earthly life to be with the Lord at the Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.

At an early age she confessed Christ and united with Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Cusseta, Alabama.  Later she moved and united with Burrell Chapel A.M.E., Opelika, Alabama.

She was employed by Mr. Phillip Sparks, where she labored for numerous years as a private caretaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaiah Smith, Sr., son, Gabriel Smith, four brothers, George Melton, Bobby Madden, Tommie Lee Madden and Willie Madden, granddaughter, Shanquarious Floyd, sisters-in-law, Lois Madden, Carrie Dean Melton and Betty Madden and step-son, Isaiah Smith, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Jerome (Sarah) Floyd, Lafayette, AL, Jimmy Floyd, Salem, AL and Rodney Dawkins, Cusseta, AL; three daughters, Dorothy Mae Floyd, Opelika, AL, Mary Lou Smith and Stephanie Dawkins, both of Valley, AL; one sister, Pinkie M. Brooks, Milledgeville, GA; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; special and dear cousin, Vinnie Jones; daughter-in-law, Lisa Floyd Sharpe,  sister-in-law, Jean Madden, Opelika, AL; step-sons, Homer Harris, South Carolina and Henry Lee (Mrytis) Goss, Lanett, AL; a host of aunts, other loving relatives and friends including a special friend, Henry Terrell, Jr.
