Michael “Miles” Standish
November 13, 1964 – July 10, 2023

Beloved husband to Andrea. Cherished brother to Hal & Nancy, Christopher & Patty and Stephanie & Kerry. Treasured uncle, godfather, nephew, cousin and friend.

Michael was born and raised in Michigan where he fell in love with coin collecting as a young man. His love of coins fostered a life-long career as a numismatist which took him to Colorado, California and Texas. While in California, he met and married the love of his life, Andrea Mangione.

Michael was known as an industry innovator. He was selected by Coin World as one of the ten most influential people in the industry. He was also awarded the “Director’s Coin for Excellence” by the Director of the U.S. Mint, Edmund Moy. As an author, he published numerous award-winning articles and books.

Michael was considered one of the few individuals who intimately understood both the vintage and modern coin markets. He spearheaded the birth of the modern coin marketplace with his innovations while grading the world's rarest and most expensive vintage coins.

Later in his career, he had the joy of attaining a life-long goal to design coins for 7k Metals. His coins and the stories they tell will be forever revered by families around the globe. His charisma, knowledge and mentorship shaped and changed the coin industry, and more importantly, every new person he met. Michael’s legacy will be forever etched in the coins he designed and the people he directly helped.

As a philanthropist, Michael helped support his wife Andrea’s dream to establish a non-profit organization to minimize pain and bring joy to hospitalized children. Established in 2009, Standish Foundation for Children was named in his honor. Michael was proud that more than 800,000 children throughout the world have been impacted by Standish Foundation.

Michael loved taking Andrea and the poodles on drives into the Texas hill country, looking for bluebonnets and BBQ. His presence will be missed from Texas to Idaho and from Liechtenstein to Rome and many places in between.

We were blessed to have had him in our lives and we will miss him dearly. His memory will live on in our hearts. The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support provided by your messages and calls. Your lovely tributes to Michael have touched us deeply and made these difficult days more bearable.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Michael’s honor to
Standish Foundation for Children.

I just heard the news of the sudden passing of Mike Standish. I am in shock. We were neighbors and friends. We grew up on the same street and played just about every outdoor kids game that has ever been invented. We shared a common fondness for the Chicago Cubs (we once floated an inflatable raft into the middle of West Lake to listen to a game). He was one of the most sincere and charismatic people I ever knew. Rest in peace my dear friend!

We are shocked at Mike's passing. He grew up down the street from us and went to Portage Central with my sons. Mike always made it over to our house when he returned to Portage. Our deepest condolences to the Standish Family. May He rest in God's arms and have everlasting peace.

I unfortunately did not have the fortune to meet Michael in person, but I am friends with Andy, his wife, and we have been working together to implement psycho-social services. Upon hearing the news of Michael’s passing, I was deeply saddened beyond words. Andy's grief is profound, and I can only imagine the loss she feels.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the support Michael provided to psycho-social services in Georgia. His support had a significant impact on the lives of hospitalized children and their families and enabled us to achieve so much for these vulnerable children. His contributions were invaluable and instrumental in our efforts to enhance the well-being of those in need.
His legacy of kindness and his contributions to the betterment of others will forever be remembered and cherished. My thoughts are with Andy and their loved ones during this difficult time. May they find strength and solace in the memories of Michael's remarkable life.

I had the privilege of working with Miles at Collectors Universe in the early 2000's, and was blessed to have gotten to work with and know him in and out of work. I'll cherish the memories - one specifically, on his bucket list was paragliding, and my husband did that and so we planned for Miles to do a tandem with a good friend of my husband's - we met Miles and Andy, and all went together, Miles did his tandem flight and loved it and then the four of us went to dinner at one of Miles' favorite spots, Claim Jumper. Another one that stands out, is getting the opportunity to work with Miles on the Jessica Lynch project at Collectors, I had the honor of being the notary - thank you Miles for all you did!! Rest in Peace

I met Miles many years ago when Andy and I were exercise buddies and Standish Foundation for Children was barely more than a dream. Miles called me spunky, and said that he liked spunky. I thought I like this man with the big smile and confident demeanor. I was one of his Facebook peeps who kept up with him as he traveled the world. I will always remember his wicked sense of humor and his positive attitude. Miles will be missed by many relatives, friends, colleagues, and peeps.

Miles, The first time we spoke over the phone it was so much fun because I couldn't stop laughing at your quick witted nature. The day was November 10, 2021. In our conversation I remember letting you know Sydney Holst told me it was almost your 56 birthday. I sent a portrait painted by Ben Garrison of The People's General Michael T. Flynn and signed by Ben and General Flynn. The numbered portrait was #56. I am sharing his message to me because you loved our country and had great respect for General Flynn. Miles was looking forward to justice in our nation. You know more than us now in the cloud of witnesses. I believe watching over us all.
His message to me; Sharleta, I just love the art work of GF. It's absolutely gorgeous and feel honored to have this. On top of his military credentials to be apart of this time and so closely to the "Plan" Thank you so much. Miles Standish
My heart will never forget your laugh and all those silly animal videos. Including me in your Itty Bitty Club with Sydney. Old songs and old movies will be forever something to cherish because they made you happy. Forever friends, we will meet again. God be with you Andy we are here for you. You are loved. Sincerely Sharleta
