I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award me on that day- and not only to me, but to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Nancy Hurst lived the truths of 2 Timothy as she went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

Nancy was born in West Point, Ga., December 27, 1950, and passed away at her home in Lagrange, Ga. She was married to James “Pete” Hurst of West Point and has two children Timothy “Shane” Hurst (Angela) of Lagrange and daughter Christy Hurst Spivey (Chuck) of Lagrange. Her grandchildren are Mary Charles Spivey (13), Harrison Spivey (10), Lucy Spivey (8), Haley Hurst (5), and Kaley Hurst (3). Her siblings are Thomas Lott, Doris Brumfield, Frances Belliveau, Walter Lott, Charlie Lott, John D. Lott, Reuben Lott, and Joe Lott. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Page Lott and Robert Byrd Lott, and her brothers Richard Lott and Bobby Gene Lott. Nancy had many nieces and nephews and was highly regarded as the baby of the “Lott Family.”

An active member in the life of West Point First United Methodist Church, Nancy was enthusiastic about her supportive roles in the special programs hosted by the church, especially teaching her Sunday School class. She retired from the Troup County Board of Education after 33-½ years of dedicated service to the nourishment and well-being of children.

Nancy was also loved for her flare when entertaining others. Being an accomplished cook, she was revered by many for her favorite dishes and her southern-style tastes. She neither needed nor followed a recipe and she often tempted her family with home-made delicacies.

The Funeral Service will be held at the West Point First United Methodist Church, West Point, Ga., Friday, July 22, 2011, eleven o‘clock a.m. EDT. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2011 from six o’clock until eight o’clock p.m. EDT in the Zachry Center of the First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to remember her by contributing to The American Cancer Society’s (Relay for Life) or the West Point First United Methodist Church.

Nancy has taught me so much about courage, faith, and grace during the past year. Because of her, my faith has grown! Also watching the Spivey and Hurst families deal with this extremely difficult time in their lives has been inspirational! We love all of you so very much. You will continue to be in our prayers!

A most gracious aunt that welcomed the use of her house and yard for my wedding 24 years ago. The "head lunch room lady" as both of my sons would affectionately refer to her in their younger years. Nick wanted her to make dressin' for school lunch EVERY day. Most of all, a wonderful sister to my mother and you will be missed.
