Her Life

Mum and my childhood

May 28, 2013

Mum was quite a religious person, my brother and I went to the local Methodist Church every sunday and belonged to the brownies, cubs and then Girl Guides and
Scouts respectively, whilst Mum and Dad attended the Sunday service. Mum and Dad also ran the local British Legion Club, although very often this meant Mum was running the bar while dad was the otherside drinking, bless him. Mum and Dad were very close and even when they argued it was usually over quite quickly. Mum was a cook at the local primary school in Styvechale and then at St. Christophers school in Allesley Park, she and her sister, my Aunty Bet who was also a, cook at a school in Tile Hill, Coventry would have arguments over how so and so was cooked.  Mum was born in Consett, Co. Durham second child of Robson and Annie Fenwick. Although they had little money Mum always said they had plenty to eat, shoes and a clean home. My grandad worked in the mines and became ill through it so they moved south to Coventry.  That was where my Mum met my Dad whose family had moved south from Scotland to find work. They were married on february 13th 1943, Dad really was the love of her life. In 1964 we moved south to Surrey where my Dad had got a job with AC Cars, in 1966 I married David Wright and my mum did everything, made my wedding gown, bridemaids dresses, the wedding cake and most of the wedding breakfast, even my going away suit, she really was a brilliant mum, but also a brilliant Nan, when I had my children she was always there for me, and as they got older they began to appreciate how special she was to us all. I know all of us think our Mums are the best and that is only right and natural, but to me my Mum really was the best. Rest in Peace Mum until the day we meet again, love you
