I feel so lucky to have known and loved Nandini Aunty. There are so many memories that come to mind like standing in front of her on her Kinetic Honda in Bangalore while she took me to have a hair cut; hearing her laughter while the adults partied late into the night and Manasa, Mahitha and I had our own little party; her pappu anna and what I named “ballu mummy saaru” when we used to raid her house and beloved kitchen after school in Auckland; and Aunty meeting my daughter for the first time. Aunty always had so much love to give which she showed in many ways, especially through her wonderful cooking. I will miss her smile, her warmth and her hugs.

Dear Nandini Aunty,
I have the sweetest memories of you all the way from elementary school in Bangalore to Auckland when we recently visited you. You brought love, light, laughter, kindness and encouragement into all our lives. I always waited eagerly to come over to your place to spend time with Mahitha, but more importantly to eat your incredible food.

I will miss you dearly, but know that you are in a safe and happy place. I will always cherish and remember all the wonderful times with you. Love you aunty!

From Sushi....

Nandu, as I called her was very unique person. Very kind n very selfless. Every time I visited her she had to make or give me some takeaway. She had a unique way of showing how much she cared for Ramu. Every sentence she spoke had reference to Ramu. Will miss you Nandu.

Words can’t express the feeling of loss of a good old friend whose life has come to an abrupt end.
Memories of Bangalore days come flooding to my mind. She was resourceful, caring and a family member who was always there in thick and thin. Our sincere heartfelt condolences to Ramakrishna, Manu and Ballu.
NANDINI, you will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace.

I was lucky enough to grow up in the company of Manasa’s family and was always welcomed at her home to study or loaf around no matter what the time of day. I always regarded Aunty as a no nonsense, yet doting mom who gave us extremely realistic advice and just enough leeway to test our adolescent boundaries! And her hospitality extended to yummy hearty meals. A lasting image for me will be aunty in her jacket on her kinetic honda. I also admired her fortitude in moving her family across the world and equipping her girls with the tools to make them strong and successful young women. Aunty, you’ll be missed.

An ode...........From Sripriya, Chennai

Oh Dear! Didn't know you were going away
All too sudden
You have not been any trouble at all
Never ever...
Why to your final home yet
Why couldn't you stay longer?

You are my best friend
I don't know how much
I love you
Every square inch...
Love your all
Eyes nose hair et al
Your soft nature
Your sweet voice
Your every little thing.

Gone away with the wind
Given yourself within my mind
Thinking of our bonding
For days weeks months years
All etched so fine in my memory

You can sleep in peace out there
Will live with your memories here
Yes

You are my greatest gift
I don't know how I can forget you
You are by heart my true friend and
Will live with me
Till I breathe last
Dearest Bukku!!

Her Life

Friendships : 1960 - 2021

April 13, 2021
Nandini had a huge number of friends. She not only managed to keep in touch with them her entire life, she also touched their lives in many many ways. When she moved to New Zealand, she made new ones but still kept in touch with old ones.

We have had many many messages from all these people who loved her and are missing her sorely and we are grateful that you were part of her life.

Oldest and closest of them all was Usha with whom she had many a Chennai shopping and eating adventure and even a trip across New Zealand.

Motherhood : May 1983 & 1988

April 13, 2021
At 11:45pm Chennai time on Friday, the 13th of May, 1983 she gave birth to her first daughter whom she named "Manasa" meaning "mind". Daddy wanted to call her "Agneta" or "fiery eyed" but guess who won that battle ?

At 2:30pm on Monday, 16th May 1988, Nandini and Ramakrishna welcomed their second daughter, Mahitha. She came a few weeks early and was little and a bit jaundiced compared to the first one but very quickly grew into a cute and healthy baby.

These girls would be the centre of Nandini's life - she did everything for them and gave them her all until the day they left home to be independent young women and pursue their studies and their career.

Marriage: March 1981

April 9, 2021
After breaking a few hearts with her good looks, Nandini agreed to marry Ramakrishna with thick head of black hair and all the stylish flair of the 1980s (think bell bottomed, bright coloured pants/trousers!). They were married in a grand wedding with a 1000 attendees and set off on their journey through life.
