ForeverMissed
Large image

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Naomi Ezeagu, 52, born on October 29, 1963 and passed away on July 21, 2016. We will remember her forever.

There are some things that are just hard to explain. Naomi was a gem. One of those rare people you come across every now and then. She was intelligent as she was hard working.   Her passing represents a huge loss to the Liberia Country Office of the African Development Bank, because Naomi had knowledge on the people, the history, and culture of Liberia. She had experienced almost every aspect of life in this country, especially during the war – her favorite topic. If you wanted art work, she knew just where to go. If it was life among civil society organizations, she could give you a chapter.  She would see aspects of things you never could imagine unless you looked again as she pointed them out to you.

The Bank and ORWA has indeed lost a dedicated, devoted and productive staff member. Within Liberia’s challenges, Naomi gave her best. Our office is really in mourning. We could weep like babies, but what would it bring us???

It is hard to think that in December, Naomi left with her own two feet, and now her empty desk might only be filled by someone else. Her laughter is lost to us forever.

In all of this, Naomi has rested in the Lord. The pain of her cancer is no more. The burden of her loss is ours now to carry. May our load be light.

Wow, Fufu, this is a very tough one for me and the entire Washington family. Though not a biological sister yet you are the sister we always had and the daughter my parents loved. We knew you all our lives. I remember how deeply hurt you were when my dad passed away in 2014, followed by the passing of our mother, Sis Nellie with whom you were so closed, last year November. How you were a source of strength especially for me, calling and writing all the way from Liberia. You shared our grief. Amehn Fufu, this is a crises for us. To quote your words when my mother passed away, "this is too painful". Go take your rest Ma and tell everybody hello for me. Love you forever. Broken hearted.

Sometimes in life, there are people you meet and they will always remain a significant part of your life. Aunty Fufu as she was affectionately called remains a great inspiration to my wife and I. We met her 14 years ago and from that moment she became an Aunty to us. She added a significant value to our relationship every time we had the opportunity to be with her. My wife and I learned to improve our nature of hospitality from Aunty Fufu. We will surely miss you Aunty Fufu. "Rest in Peace"

I still can't believe Fufu is gone. She was a fun person to be around. Whenever she was in Atlanta, she and I would get together at her sister's apartment, and talk, and laugh, and talk, and laugh., and talk. and laugh. You get the point? Fufu was a ton of fun!

She would talk about her son (her favorite subject). She and I would talk (and laugh) about the good old days in Monrovia (when Monrovia wasn't filthy).

We would talked about Buzzi Quarter. Waterside, Sinkor. The School (night club). LU. Priscilla. Broad Street. Cathedral School. Good-for-nothing Liberian politicians (my favorite subject).

I will miss her dearly. May her soul rest in peace.

My dearest friend and sister, you left me without goodbye oh. There's so much that we went through together especially when I had my daughter Twedee. You were my anchor and sail as I fought life's battles and storms. We shared secrets that brought comfort to us both. You were my Mentor, adviser and friend. You saw what no one could see in me. At one point, you told me; Deborah, you are a strong, intelligent and beautiful woman. I want you to get back in school and get that degree, as I know you will do even better than what you are doing now. Ah mehn, I went back and got my degree and you were so excited that I listen to you. I was also going through a bitter divorce process and again you were there encouraging me to hold on and remain steadfast in the things of God. You invited me to come Sinkor Airfield to your church, where I drew strength from the message that day.
Who do I call friend and sister, as you were to me. Your kind of a person are rare to stumble across. Oh,Fufu,Twedee is there ....hmmm,this is too much for me ohhh.
Rest in peace ma,as I can write and write, but I have to let you rest from all the trauma and drama of life. You have fought a good fight. One day sister we shall meet again.
Take you rest.
Deborah and Twedee Dewell Nimley.

Your memories will live on forever.

My Dearest Naomi,

Words cannot express how shocked I was to hear about your transitioning to another life. It had been a while since we had chatted and I did not realize how serious your illness had become.

I will remember your professionalism, your encouraging and supportive spirit. I will remember how you welcomed every person who entered the AfDB Office as if they were your long lost friend. I will remember how we would sometimes have lunch together in the office kitchen and you would tell us stories about your Father and Liberia during the war.  I will remember you always.

May your Beautiful Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.

It is with a shock and total dismay to learn of your sudden demise just few minutes when I signed in on my computer. For the few moments I interacted with you at the Liberia Country Office, you always attended to me with "smiles". You have left a gap in our midst but we pray that our Creator will grant an eternal rest to your gentle Soul. R.I.P. Sister.

Naomi embraced me as family from day one and it's hard to find words to explain how much I enjoyed her company. She was a grandmother extraordinaire and her charm, intellect, passion and engaging spirit was passed along to her grandchildren. Prishad (age 9) walks into any setting and children from all other quickly run to play with him, and Sia (age 3) can read a situation in seconds and know just how to respond. If feist is required she brings it :) All are qualities Naomi had in spades! Rest in peace grandma fufu. We miss you each and every day.

Oh my God! Naomi, you are not here? I went to your office on the same day of your passing and asked about you and was told you were in the US for treatment.

I remember in 2006 when I first met you, you greeted me with a special greeting “your highness” and I thought what a friendly person! Since then we have greeted each other with “your highness”. You were one of the most pleasant persons I have ever met and will ever meet.

Thanks for my current place of employment. When the Country Manager was looking for a competent person, you told him about me and called me to submit my application right away, which I did. I will forever be grateful to you. My heart is bleeding, RIP Your Highness, until we meet again!

Her fearlessness

July 28, 2016

Naomi worked for us but more rightly with me at the fishing company in Monrovia. She was our secretary but actually she was a major link in keeping the operation of the company moving.Though she was an employee, you would never had known because we treated each other as parteners. My partner Ade & I  owned & operated 12 vessels during 1991-1194. A period that most had turned their backs on Liberia. Fast forward, two of vessels were captured by Taylor's forces...at the time greater Liberia  (which was occupied by Taylor) was a formidable force. However, our vessels entered into waters which we had no license to fish. Subsequently the vessels were boarded by Taylor forces. In the ensuing weeks of negotiations  (we had a predominantly crew of former Soviet block nationals), Naomi called in every favor, talked with anyone who would listen....including diplomats... eventually & because of her efforts I was able to secure the release of more than 30 crew members. This was all done during a PEACE conference held in the city of Yamasoukro, Ivory Coast. She was passionate, loyal, true, committed, wise, dependable.

Let me add that at the time of all this is had a young baby....a son...I had to leave him to travel in order to secure the release of so many... though I had a nanny, Naomi assured me that she would "take care of him". She said, "go and bring our people home... their families need them too". I brought ALL the crew home knowing I didn't have to worry about my home...

Rest in peace!!! I shall never forget how good & great you were
