I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Ben. Ben was my performance supervisor (PS) at Peppy.

I couldn't ask for a better PS. He did everything he could when it mattered the most. For me, this was giving me a substantial amount of condolence leave to return to the UK. I knew it would be a challenging task to find teachers to cover me, but he told me not to worry, he would find a way. I will never forget what he did for me.

One teaching day, he came all the way to Saga himself, to assist me with a challenging class.

Ben loved nothing more than talk about his two boys and how he used to spend weekends with them at soccer practice.

The last time I saw Ben, he persisted on buying me a meal along with the new teachers joining the team. He would not take any contribution of money for this. It was my last visit to the office, and what a lovely memory and aspiration to his character this was.

Thank you Ben. I pray your family will feel God's peace and support in this difficult time.

Dear Benjamin,
I miss you. I'm sad the world has lost a bright light. I will remember you for the many wonderful things that have already been mentioned. Your smile and voice had a calming effect on me. You were a great teacher in the classroom and I know you became a great PS as well. Regardless of how I may have felt, your presence was always comforting. Thank you always.

Ben was a true friend who would give his very best to help anybody out.

I remember when I first talked to Ben on the phone, I was doing my training for the company at a classroom in Kyoto and I was quite nervous at the time. His advice and encouraging words calmed me down and the lesson was a success.

It did not matter what the problem was, Ben would always be there to share his knowledge and advice. Even in the most difficult of times, he would still make sure you were alright and having no problems.

He was a person I could see eye to eye, express whatever thoughts, worries, or issues I may have had and come up with a solution. We would argue many times, but at the end of the day, our friendship grew stronger.

I remember calling Ben at 5 O'clock in the morning just to talk about football during the world cup, having fufu and fish soup that he had made, receiving all kinds of products like malta and bentos, or simply watching YouTube videos about food and cooking.

I truly miss him and my heart is with his family. I hope he can now rest in peace, we all love him and he will never be forgotten.

Thank you very much for everything Ben and may God bless your soul.

I had the good fortune to know Benjamin for a long time. I remember well the trip I made to Fukushima to meet and interview him in the early 2000's. A few things about Benjamin stood out from that meeting - his voice, his warm smile, and his strength of character. There was no mistaking that it was Benjamin when he spoke or called on the telephone. That deep voice and distinctive speaking style. I can still hear him today and sure wish I could speak with him one more time. Behind that deep voice was a warm smile that made you feel good and always put you at ease. In my first meeting with Benjamin I listened to his story of how he came from Nigeria to Japan. His story was one of determination, diligence, and hard work. I quickly knew that this was a man who would be successful at whatever he put his mind to because he was humble, steadfast, and ready to do what was necessary to be successful and reach his goal. I also knew that we were very fortunate that he chose to work with us - twice! Through my work I've met thousands of people from all over the world and all walks of life. Benjamin's strength of character set him apart and he lifted everyone up. He was someone we all aspire to be like and were all the better for knowing.

It was my privilege to know you and to call you my friend.

Words cannot describe how hard your departure hit. This clearly is because of the impact your positivity and fighting spirit had on us all.

You were a big brother. You knew when to check-in. You were there with your advice and guidance at all times. You were a big help when I became P.S. even though I liked to do things my own way, you offered your guidance and checked-in on regular basis to ensure my area ran smooth.

At a point in my life, I was lost in myself but you would listen to my rants. Such a big heart. I could say you played a big role that led me finding my way back to my path.

I had a lot of discussions with when I was about to get married. Of all the experiences you shared, the one that stuck was ' How you make your bed is how you sleep in it'. A simple idiom but it is the pillar I built my marriage on.

You were humble but crazy confident. You humility is admirable. Towards the end, I had a little displeasure but you made the effort. You brought me back into light.

For everything, I say THANK YOU.

You have left a hole in us all. Though we mourn, we take solace in that fact that you are in a better place; a place of no pain, a place of no worry, a place of no disdain.

I pray the Almighty God keeps you in his bosom

Dear Big Bro Ben,

My heart goes out to you and your family at this time.
I’m still finding it hard to believe that you’re gone. You were a great friend, manager, and mentor.

Over the course of the 10 years that I’ve known you, you’ve always been someone that I could count on for just about anything; work issues, private matters, or getting your thoughts and advice on whatever was happening. You always took the time to lend an ear and somehow give an earful in return. Not to mention all the times you screamed on my head.

You know, it took me a long time to figure out what it was that you were actually saying. Your anecdotes always made me think a bit harder. I’ll miss those stories you told, along with the Nigerian proverbs, and our chats over coffee.

The team of teachers that you leave behind miss you sorely. You were a fatherly figure to us. Despite our different backgrounds, views, and needs, you managed to always bring us together and put our interests above your own.

It was truly a pleasure knowing you and I’m blessed to have met you.
Although you’re no longer here, you live in our hearts and memories.
Love you bro

Your friend,
Ian Mowry

Dearest brother,

This world isn't our home. We're all strangers and at God's own chosen time, we shall reunite once more. I can't describe my feelings when I heard of your demise. I however always console myself with the saying, "every beginning has an end". You lived a great and purposeful life and I'm glad that towards your last days, we were able to fellowship together. I know you're in the right place.

You were such a lovely and fun person. I quite remember the first time we met at Fukuoka office. You asked sarcastically if I came from the same village as yourself. When I asked the reason for the question you said, "only people from my village bears the name Nwana".

Our TPM meetings was no different, as you would always create jokes and sometimes pick-on fellow colleagues, just to make everyone feel at ease and get into the meeting mode. You knew your weaknesses and would always apologize whenever you felt your words were misinterpreted or hurtful to others. You were readily available to provide support to your fellow co-workers, though.

One of the most intimate things I cherished and would always remember, is turning to each other using our local "pidgin English" as means of communication to catch fun especially when we felt home sick. It really hurts to know that we wouldn't be having our conversations anytime soon.

You'll be missed, brother!

Dearest Ben,

You were a wonderful PS and a remarkable man. There was never a more encouraging, supportive co-worker than you. Every new person was welcomed and made to feel a part of the team. I remember my first day at the Fukuoka TPM and how you invited me to sit with you during lunch as you told me funny stories about the company and its people. I am going to miss those stories.

Know that you will be missed by all of us.

‘Everything that has a beginning has an ending. Make your peace with that and all will be well. “ Buddhist saying.

With sincere sympathy,
Mimi

Hello Brother.

I've known you over 15 years - from your days as a teacher in Fukushima until you moved down to Fukuoka and became a manager. I had the pleasure of talking with you and seeing you on a regular basis.

You were always willing to help others in any way possible. Regardless of what difficulties it would cause you, you selflessly provided what you could to help solve others' problems.

I already miss your angry rants about changes in the company and your rambling confusing ice-breakers at our meetings. You were as aware of your short-comings as unaware as you were was of your amazing leadership. You managed humbly and maintained selfish devotion to your staff and the company.

We went through a lot together. You were one of the most coachable, self-aware, humble, compassionate managers I've ever worked with. One of my fondest memories of working with you happened throughout the beginning years of your time as a manager. On occasion, the company head office staff mishandles or miscommunicates information placing a great burden on the teachers. You became quite famous for calling head office after these events and letting them know very strongly that you were not happy. (You could be very stubborn!) This was not a good thing. So We sat down and I said "Look, next time you get ready to pick up the phone to call head office and give them a piece of your mind, call me first. You can rant to/at me and we can talk it through. Then you can call head office to solve the problem." You took it to heart and ended up calling me quite often at first. Over time, you grew as a communicator and as a leader and became one of head office's favorites.

Finally, personally, you weren't just one of my employees, you were a brother. When you first shared your situation last year, I wanted to drop everything and head down to Fukuoka but the pandemic made it impossible. I was lucky to chat with you often while you were battling everything. Just as always, you never let on how bad things were or how much you hurt. You always said "I'm doing good and I'm sorry for causing trouble."

You often spoke about how much you learned from me over the years, but I don't think I ever told you how much I learned from you as well.

I spoke to you last on the evening of February 22nd, ending with "I'll see you soon. Hang in there."

I wish I'd also said "I love you, brother."

My Darling Ndi,
Your Memory Will Never Fade!
As we mourn and grieve your premature departure to glory, we do not grieve like people
without hope. For we believe The Word of The Lord and know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The Lord told us that He was going to prepare a place for us and after He has prepared a place for us, He would come again and take
us so that we will be with him. I thank the Lord for the time he gave us to sing together, to worship together and to pray together. I hid my tears from you as I did not want to show any sign of weakness. Yet in my weakness, God's strength is perfected. I miss talking to you daily, sharing the Word and Holy Communion together. In your pain, you never failed to pray for your family, your mom, and your siblings. You had the courage to connect your family on speaker phone as you said goodbye. As the days drew near and you told me that it would happen in a few days, you ended by writing,

“My darling big sis, thanks for making my last few days on earth to knowing the living God and finally
acknowledging his mighty presence in my life. ..not giving up yet & never will. I still have faith changes will occur. Please find the way to cushion this message to momsie and my siblings. It is going to happen in a few days. I've spoken to no one else on this issue so far. Thanks big sis for understanding.”
My darling brother;
“A good heart has stopped beating, but a heart that has touched so many lives can't help but live on in those it loved.”
The fact that you are no longer here on earth has left a void that no one else can fill. You're forever in our hearts until we meet again.
(1 Thessalonians 4 vs 13-18 & 1 Corinthians 15 vs 50-58.
The words I heard you say everyday in Ibo still rings in my heart. “Jehovah bu Eze!”
(Jehovah is King).
May the Lord grant your soul perfect peace !

Love forever,
Your Big sis.❤️

His Life

Ndubisi Nweke

April 9, 2021
Ndubisi Benjanin Nweke was born on the 29th of May1970 in the town of Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA, present day Enugu State.

He was the 2nd son and 4th child of Late Igwe Frank Onyemaechi Nweke and LoLo Francisca Nweke.

Ndubisi nicknamed  Dr. Smart or Smart by his peers attended St. Paul's School Ebute Mette Lagos in the early years of his life. He later concluded his primary education at Shehu Garbai primary school Maiduguri, Borno State in 1982 and then attended Federal Government college Maiduguri (FGCM)for his secondary school education where he graduated in1988.

While in secondary school, Ndubisi distinguished himself in sports and an exceptional skill in interpersonal relationship with both teachers and students which earned him the post of Social Prefect those days in FGCM.  His rare talent and ability in managing and bringing people of diverse background and culture together further earned him more admiration from people around him.

Ndubisi later went to the Federal University of Technology Yola, Adamawa State in 1989 where he studied Mathematics  before going over to the College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT) Lagos to study Marine Engineering just to fulfill the dream of becoming a Marine Engineer from 1995 -1998 and then worked briefly with Skolar Shipping Nigeria Limited from 1998 to year 2000.

Smart then decided to leave the shores of Nigeria and sujorn to far away Japan to explore other life opportunities and perhaps avail some of his wealth of experience and talent in that part of the world as well. While overseas, he worked very hard through correspondence and online studies to obtain a bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBA) from Universidad Empresarial De Costa Rica (UNEM) San Jose, Costa Rica in May 2012 and a Master's degree in Information Technology from SMC University Switzerland in December 2016.

Benjamin Ndubisi  Nweke started work with ITTTI Japan Company Limited in the year 2001. Again he worked very hard to distinguish himself in performance, service delivery and unique interpersonal relationship with his colleagues at work and rose through the ranks. He stood for justice, honesty, fairness and equity.
He worked with ITTTI Japan  until his death.
Ndubisi made a mark for  standing up for truth and for being brutally blunt.

Those who knew Ndubisi would attest to the fact that he was tough minded, highly courageous, brave, very humble, considerate and decisive. Ndubisi was also technically inclined and anything beyond him would most probably evade even the most talented technical professional.

Smart cared so much for his nuclear and extended family and would do anything to stand up for his friends and family.

Ndubisi Benjamin Nweke is survived by his wife Kaori and sons Jeremy and Chidi;  mother Lolo Francisca Nweke; brothers Frank Nweke II, Mike Obinna Nweke, Andy Nweke and sisters Mrs Callister Ekeh, Mrs Ijeoma Onumaegbu and Mrs Ngozi Obi; nephews, nieces, grandmother, uncles, aunts and numerous cousins. He was a great Dad.

Even though the terrors of pain and death stared him in the face, Ndii remained gracious, and courageous till the end.

He would be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace Ndii.
