Nellie Mae Pritchett Burks (Nell) was born October 28, 1968 to the late Sammie Mae Pritchett and Walter Fields, Jr.; she was the tenth child of eleven siblings. Nellie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She later united with the Cornerstone A.M.E. Zion Church, Cornerstone Community, Union Springs, AL.


Nellie was a member of the graduating Class of 1987 at Bullock County High School. She was a caring friendly person who believed in prayer and that God would make away and take care of His people.


On April 14, 1999, Nellie married Arthur Burks and they remained together until the Lord called her home on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center East, Montgomery, AL. Arthur was the love of her life. She was employed at Bonnie Plants for thirteen years.


Nellie was also preceded in death by one brother, Samuel Pritchett and one sister, Mary L. Cole.


Nellie leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted husband, Arthur Burks; mother-in-law, Helen Tarver; father-in-law, Joe Thompson; three step-children, Donté Burks, Montgomery, AL; Tervin Burks, Hurtsboro, AL and Jasmine Burks, Montgomery, AL; six brothers, Johnny (Mattie) Pritchett, Fitzpatrick, AL, Frank (Betty) Pritchett, James Pritchett, Danny Pritchett, all of Union Springs, AL, Walter Pritchett and Roderick Pritchett, both of Lyons, NY; two sisters, Willie Mae (Frank) Witherspoon, Fitzpatrick, AL and Marie Pritchett, Union Springs, AL; one brother-in-law, Benjamin Tarver; one sister-in-law, Minister Arona Pritchett, Midway, AL; one aunt, Mattie Ceil Lee, Alabaster, AL; five aunts-in-law, Annie Bell Owens, Lois Thompson, Ella Mae Callaway, Darnella Mitchell and Bernice Burks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
