She was more than a teacher to most of us. She was a mentor to my leading passion from as young as grade 8 until I left the school after Matriculating. She used to say one day I will make one of the big shot lawyers in the country and for the sake of her loving memory I will live to make her wish come true . Rest in peace Koko Matlala

One moment that lingers in my memory is of you referring to me as an angel. Now here you are taking the actual form of an angel.

Cliché but my memory of you is bittersweet. You left a big footprint in most of our lives, made an impact, contributed to who we are and who we are still to be. I'm just sad that there's still generations that would've still benefited from your presence.

Otherwise Ma'am life is what it is and surely you are at peace seeing that you have lived, loved us and we know you were here. Now there's this void that we cannot fill but we shall continue to treasure the memories.

We thank you for sharing your life with us. Though in haste, Heaven has gained an Angel.

Makoti, the news of your passing on left me speechless. On my visits to your school, you were so welcoming and hospitality was always evident.
I first knew you as the Secretary of South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) Nebo Cluster working with the late Voster Moto (may his soul rest in perfect peace).

Your passion for this genre (choral music) and your will to serve were out of this world. You represented the now defunct Sekhukhune District and Sekhukhune South District upto provincial level.

In 2020, you and I had arranged to compete in the duet section for the aborted SADTU competitions wherein we were preparing the song "Pelo e ja serati by Mohau Mohale".

Once again I was on your neck (even when you showed reluctancy) to prepare and register the male choir for 2022 SASCE competitions.

All our engagements brought us closer until I got to know your family, especially little Khumo and bra Sol.

To Matlalas and Marishanes;

From a teacher to a mother ,from a mother to a friend then from friend to an Angel. I will always remember your beautiful smile,your laughter and far most your love that always had warmth.

 I can still hear her Voice yelling at me "Maphutha  o tlo swaba "

Its painful , it hurts .. efela  Meta o re Rutile gore "Thato ya Modimo e tla pele"

I believe we are all about to be successful and rich because we have gained a very strong rooted angel advocating for us in heaven

Mma-Mam Makoti Grace Matlala

When He send you to earth, He send us a vessel who would not only know how to honour her mission by imparting knowledge through mastering the art of the scriber with the chalk, from generation to generation.
He yet again translated in you a heart, of one whom we would find a home away from home
For you were for many of us more than just a teacher, serving us with your heart of motherhood.

You truly made the eagles wings on our banner, take form and come alive in us;
you where not only one yourself,Thee eagle, through your unmatched phenomenal leadership but you also natured and made us realise that our own wings carry the power, will and ability to propel us into greater heights, through various means, and fashions, that I can not even begin to count.

As we continue to flip our wings, and raising the eagles banner, wherever the winds take us in the world and we see the sun rising in the east, we will forever remember your beautiful smile and luangher that was truly a ray of ⛅ sunshine from the east
Wrapped in that ray of sunshine a tapestry of one who has been, a servant to us, our teacher, our music teacher, a mother, a destiny helper and an extended hand ✋ of God's blessings and love, manifest through your beautiful heart.

And as the sun begins to set and say it's goodbyes to us in West, our hearts will ponder on the beautiful memories you have imprinted in our hearts and minds and serve us a reminder that you are truly missed forever.

Rest in in perfect peace, Mma Grace Matlala
From one of your Eagles, with love Itumeleng Joy Leshilo.

My dear friend, Makoti

They say friends are the family we choose. We met as roommates in 1989 and chose to be friends until you took your last breath. Being chosen was the greatest moment of my life and when you passed on, it was the worst moment of my life. I am still shocked. Your death was so sudden and unexpected...but friendship transcends death. The memories we have created will never be forgotten. I will miss our long telephone conversations, always full of laughter....I will forever cherish our friendship....with love & a broken heart, rest well my friend.

Am kopedi Makola one of class 1998 under Mam Matlala at Rantobeng Motseng wa Diphagane, well I am speechless don't really know were to start but I will really miss you a lot because you were everything apart from being my teacher. You became an advisor, mentor, mother and always encouraging me to never give up. I remember when I was still working in Pretoria, she offered me a free accommodation in your house to stay with your son for free even though I refused. Hence I am saying there is a lot to say about you but the platform does not allow enough space. To Mam Matlala's family, your loss is our loss, God's timing will never be perfect to us all

Your kind heart accepted me from Rusternburg and built a never ending friendship for more than 20years, growing into mothers we are today. You have been a great mother and a good friend to me. I will dearly miss our talks and above all 'you'.

Thank God for period we were afforded to have worked with you. You represented and served women in Leadership positions with dignity, respect and above all you were a very humbled and compassionate human being.
Farewell our teacher, manager and leader.

Thought it was a bad joke when I heard at first as I never imagined you leaving us so soon. I say I lost a grandmother ,star and a life motivator. She shall always be a star in my heart, light in in my dreams and a grandmother in my life.Talking about her in the past tense trust me it breaks my heart .

I will always treasure your words and make sure to make you proud as I promised. Be what you taught me to be and will never forget your teachings. Is hard to say this but I say May your soul rest in eternal peace.

I love you Koko Matlala

It is so difficult to talk about Meta in the past tense. It feels like one will wake up to be told gore it was some sick joke. Meta a difata, a selfless soul, a born leader, a community builder, the list goes on and on. She left so soon, but all is well, because matsatsi a motho lefaseng a tsebjwa ke Mong wa bophelo. Heaven couldn't wait. To Malome, bana ba Meta, Paballo, Reagisheng and Khumo, her siblings, friends and colleagues, find solace in the Lord, she has run her race. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

My story, Our story

It started years back with family reunion of Rustenburgers and family in Polokwane area..Ga Tisane Moshate in the 80s
Then We were together at Turfloop where we had so much fun
What is unique and brought us together is this, both of us born 20 May 1970, married, having 2 boys and a girl.. that's special about us.
Moments we shared together::
Telephonically - leaning on each others shoulders, sharing all emotions together, good and bad times..Pillar of strength for each other.
Home visits I cherished..many times talking night out, laughter mostly and plans for holidays near ocean..
What remains we shared so much love together and the bond so strong..
Thanks for spending some time in Mpumalanga at my house at some stage..o busa maoto..true twin sister.
You are such a joy and mentor..I will love you always..Now lately in our last conversation never saw the were full of life and hopes..but.....
I guess us to accept Thato ya Morena..I will miss you..My's sad our story had to stop will continue with your kids and One and Only twin sister..

I worked with Makoti at Rantobeng Sec in 1997, she was young, care free and full of energy. It was at that era when our learners were literally elderly people, bomme ba go tswa ka ga bona and young men, some married. Meta would come to school wearing a knee-length, flared and transparent skirt. She would say yena, she only puts on 3 items. Our principal then once commented about her dress code, and that was the joke of the year. Meta was very confident, when she walked, her head was always held high and her chest out. O be a bonala gore she was a princess. She loved music and a kgona go opela. We would sit in the staff room during breaks and start singing those rarely sung difficult Lutheran songs, bo Modimo yo re mmotileng ke sebo se thata, Pelo yaka e goletswe, Lebaka laka la bofelo and many more. Meta loved finer things in life, she would organize staff dinners for Holiday Inn, and that would be great. She was a tour Organizer, I was not surprised after I have left go kwa gore she contributed in introducing Tourism as a subject, taught the subject and excelled. I remember one year re isitse bana on a tour to Mpumalanga, and we were accommodated at Blyde River Resorts. When it was time to sleep our learners sneaked out without us noticing that, and our room was just next to theirs. The following morning they were making fun of it saying, MamMatlala was zooming us with her glasses on even when she was in bed. I remember are go bona, your parents are now asleep and you are troubling us here, saying that passionately so, xhem she loved her work, a teacher par excellence. She would always get sponsors to cater our learners during excursions, and her generosity was out of this world. A lot of learners from Rantobeng achieved in life because of her efforts, she shared her family's resources with them. Makoti would give them accommodation when they go to look for admission at institutions of higher learning, as if that was not enough, she would even pay registration fees to those that couldn't, buy them those things they would need, she would literary take her own luggage bags and give to those in need. Yah that's Makoti for you, there's a lot that I can say about her ‍♀️ we really thank her family for allowing us to share her with them. Re leboga the womb that carried her, and breasts that nurtured her to be the giant, the heroine she was. Meta will be dearly missed. O shomile ngwana Mologadi, ga a ye a khutse, at a better place where there are no sorrows. We thank God for all the days of her life, even though parting with her is such a bitter pill to swallow, rere go lokile go lokile.
