From Festus Udala Akpati (Husband)

With tears in my eyes I write, who will call me “U” again!! I don't really know where to start. N.G (as I call you), I felt it was a dream but as the days went by, hours turned to days and days to weeks. N.G this wasn't the plan, you just went for your routine check and I still await your return as usual to get goodies as you used to. Now I've spent days without you my darling. It has finally dawned on me that you are really gone. You were such a loving soul, my lifetime partner, my confidant, my doctor, my therapist, my financial adviser, my love, my wife you really meant the whole world to me. We really had a good time together, the ups and downs, our trips and a lot more are still fresh in my memories. You provided a shield to protect me, even till death. N.G I'm deeply pained. I never thought it would be this early, but I can’t question God. It is His Will that you come to Him in a time as this, I therefore submit to His will. You took care of our son and taught him family values, he has taken over the baton of caring for me from you and he is doing it very well. Everything that has a beginning must have an end.

Rest in peace my NG
Adieu my Wife

Mum,
I had the unique privilege of receiving your unconditional love for as long as I have been alive. Your love and presence has been my rock and stable foundation through beautiful and hard times alike. The relationship we have is like none other I will ever experience, and I am grateful for it. I am thankful that I was able to show you my full gratitude for that so frequently, even though in true fashion you would compete by thanking me back for simply being alive, which I always found amusing and a testament to how pure your soul is. You taught me so much that attempting to list those things here will never do that justice. Who I am in every sense of the word is the embodiment of your careful and conscious efforts to make as good and kind of a human as you possibly could. I can only hope to live up to that. You were the one I would reach out to and fall back on for almost every difficult situation or question under the sun. From the simplest of things to the most complex even technology/engineering questions where you may not have had expertise in. Regardless, you would typically say a short wise statement or proverb which always had the solution and answer to these questions irrespective of how complex it was.
You lived your life in service to others with little to no fear in your heart, but so much love, and optimism. You appreciated and always stayed open minded to the different views of others on sensitive things like religion, culture, politics etc. and ensured they valued yours as well. You placed very little value in material things, but emphasized the value of integrity, character, courage, and selflessness. Everywhere we went even during your very recent visit to me in the US, you would make a new friend from the doctors, to the nurses, to the janitors, taxi drivers, gardeners etc. regardless of class, social or financial status you consistently treated everyone with the exact same level of respect and kindness. Seeing you do this all my life has ingrained so many traits which I am grateful for and will continue to nurture.
Between you and I there are no goodbyes; both alive and through your death, your spiritual presence around me has been constant. I will celebrate the beautiful life you lived, and pledge to continue your legacy of love, kindness, courage, spreading joy, uplifting the unfortunate, and all that is wholesome and truly worthwhile of this world. Until the very end on your death bed your heart was filled with more compassion for others around you than concern for yourself. In the last moment we spoke, with smiles we blew kisses to each other and were at peace and graceful about the reality of your imminent transcendence from this world. You lived a full beautiful life my dear and I know you will continue to brighten up the heavens.

Until we meet again my love,
Your son Ifeme.

On behalf of Walter Tete:

Tribute in honor of my Aunty: Mrs. Ngozi Winifred Akpati of Blessed Memory

I share this tribute to my very beloved Aunty, my friend, and one of the most caring woman that I have ever known. Married to my Uncle, Mr. Festus Akpati, Aunty Ngozi, as I have always called her, was a special woman with a charming smile that often lights up a room whenever she entered. I recall a moment among many, when I visited her home in Kaduna, Nigeria. Her hospitality and welcoming nature often made my visits interestingly memorable. We joked and laughed on many occasions and she was quick with a joke during our fun conversations. We also discussed some serious issues, ranging from the economic situation in the country at that time, to everyday concerns of the suffering masses. She had wished there was something that she could do to alleviate the sufferings of the masses at that time in the 80’s and early 90’s in Nigeria. Aunty Ngozi that I know was a graceful woman with a caring soul, not just for her family and friends alone, but to everyone, especially to complete strangers. During her time as the Executive Secretary of the then Peugeot Car Company in Kaduna-Nigeria, she handled her duties creditably, and she had received several awards to that effect from top management of the organization. She paid great attention to details regarding her fellow human being both at home and at her job. She will be greatly missed by friends, family, and by anyone who had the opportunity to interact with her one-on- one. I pray that God in His infinite mercy should grant my Aunty, Mrs. Ngozi Akpati eternal rest with the angels above. Adieu, Aunty Ngozi, continue to rest in peace until we meet again to continue from where you left off. Rest on Aunty, rest on…it is well!

On behalf of your nephew Amb.& Engr Chuka Mbanefo

You were an example of the personality of the verse in the scriptures " Love your Enemy " Mummy you showed love to all that came across you. No wonder even in your last days you professed so much love. We had great plans for the year. We were already working on them until death stuck. Oh death you have done this to me again. Words cannot express how I feel now but, when I remember the glorious Morning of resurrection my heart finds solace. With the cheery smile on your face as you took your last breath that morning, I know you are in a better place. Your Grand Children Nwando and Sommy are still looking forward of visiting you as planned. Mummy your daughter Nazam is still in shock. I close my eyes as I wipe a tear. I just keep wishing you are still here. I would hold my memories. I just wish this pain will go away; I didn't just think your time will come so soon. All your love I will ever hold dearly.
We love and Miss you.

On behalf of Rhoda Salifu

My Mummy,
From the first day we met our hearts clicked
It was a mother daughter relationship,
You were always kind and checked up on me from time to time I will never forget.
Your relocation from Kaduna was a huge one for me as I knew I was going to really miss you.
I probably would have stayed longer if I knew our meeting would be the last.
Thank you mummy for breaking the silence when you called in February 2021.Thank you for giving me the chance to be an inspiration like you thought I was to you and daddy.
You asked for prayers and I never ceased to pray whenever the Lord laid it in my heart.
I love you even in death and I hope you are resting In the Lord God of heaven and earth.
Sleep on till we meet again.

TRIBUTE TO MRS NGOZI WINIFRED AKPATI

Rose and I got to know Mrs Ngozi Winifred Akpati around 1991, some 30 years ago, when we relocated to Kaduna from Minna. We were well received by the Akpati’s family and I still remember some continental breakfasts that Mrs Ngozi Akpati used to prepare. Oh la la, as she was wont to say. In those days she was always split between speaking English Language or French. Her French, I was told, was flawless having studied and worked in France before coming back to Nigeria. And I guess she must have wondered why we were unable to speak even the basic sentences in French, a language she felt was the easiest to speak!

Mrs Ngozi Akpati loved life and everything about her showcased someone who really did her best to make this lifetime count. Not only did she travel around the country but around the world! And on every trip, she was busy radiating love to all that came her way. Her laughter was particularly infectious and she gave it out freely without measure. As a fantastic storyteller, she loved telling beautiful stories about the Americans, the French, and the Kiwis (New Zealanders). She was always encouraging Rose and I to find time to visit New Zealand, a place she called an unpolluted country. She was a great adviser to our children and never stopped asking of their welfare. She accepted everyone and radiated love in her speech and mostly in her actions. When I became the Local Director of ECKANKAR in Kaduna in 1995, I enjoyed her support, dedication, and commitment 100%. Her house was the home for all, ECKists and non-ECKists alike. During local and regional seminars, Mrs Ngozi Akpati’s house was always a guest house for free board and lodging! A big heart filled with so much love indeed.

Mrs Ngozi Akpati would be missed by all the members and friends of ECKANKAR in Kaduna, particularly the Youth, who nicknamed her as the “Mummy of Youth”. For many years she took over the responsibilities of the Youth Adviser at the Kaduna ECKANKAR Centre. And she travelled with the Youth to all the ECK Youth Campouts in the country! She was always ready to give a supporting hand.

Like many others, I will miss her laughter, continental breakfast, encouragements, occasional French vocabulary, support and the act of just being there for one!

Fare thee well, great Soul. Fare thee well, my brother!

TRIBUTE TO A GREAT FRIEND, MRS. WINIFRED AKPATI

The first thing I noticed about amiable Mrs. Winifred Abati in 1981, when my husband and I moved to Kaduna as a newly married couple trying to build a home, family and career, was her big smile and welcoming presence. Later that year, we also found Eckankar - the path of Spiritual Freedom. And, it did not take long for us to bond and form a friendship which also incorporated our children, Ifeme and Lawrence.

Winnie's laughter was contagious, her personality was warm, her demeanor was friendly, her disposition was all-embracing, and her heart was endearing. She graciously attended to everyone, regardless of age, tribe or religion. Her home was ever filled with visitors, relatives, children as well as Eckankar members who frequently slept over during seminars and other Eckankar activities.

Winnie was a patient listener. She was very kind and playful. One would be right by saying that she was somewhat pleasantly childlike, unassuming and natural in her ways. I quite recall her soothing phone call to me, not knowing it would be our last, when Winnie expressed her condolences on the passing of my beloved husband, Edet. That last conversation was most heartwarming and full of succor for me. I remember gleefully our times in Kaduna, and how it was full of fun/partying and Eck activities. Oh, those beautiful memories will always remain dear to me!

Rather than a permanent place of residence, life is but a stopping place; a journey of some sort; a pause in what's to be; and yes, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. Indeed, we all have different journeys and paths through this process of transition during which we are meant to learn much and exhibit good works. Our destination is a better place - far greater in recompense, beauty, joy, peace and love than we could ever imagine.

For some, however, the thoroughfare of life on earth is quicker and shorter, while for others it is slower and longer. But, when the journey finally ends, our rewards would be commensurate to our deeds while we journeyed. And, deserving individuals like my dear friend, Winnie would be assured everlasting peace in the warm embrace of the MAHANTA,The ECK AND THE SUGMAD.

Journey on Beautiful Soul, and May The Blessings Be.

Helen Edem & Family.

Auntie Ngozi is one of the earliest contacts I made in ECK. She is very open and I always looked forward to seeing her in ECK seminars. She always asks me about Onitsha, my base and her home. I recall my first visit to Kaduna in this lifetime. It was for a regional seminar. She and her husband treated me like one of their own children. Before I read about this the thoughts of her kept weaving in and out of my consciousness. Yes, we remain together beyond flesh and blood. I will never ever miss you Adanne. It's service here and beyond.

Tribute to Aunty Ngozi
Never knew I would write a tribute so soon. My eyes are filled with tears again!! The Shock of your sudden death was quite challenging for me because I was holding on to God for your recovery, but He knows best.
Few days before your demise, you assured me you are getting better and will soon be home. Indeed, life is not how you want it but definitely what God wants for you. Chaiiii, Aunty Ngooooo..…. When I think of you, I think of light, no matter how stifled life might appear, you brought joy to those around you. You were a fighter and you really fought hard to stay with us, but we cannot question our God.

As a little girl growing up, especially during Christmas at Ugwunaubankpa, when you arrive from KD – town…you and my Dad (late Akunne), always had a way of adding vibes to the celebration. Another vacuum at Ugwunaubankpa!!! I admire your boldness and truthfulness. You were kind, hospitable and loving. I will miss your smile and small small njakili (LOL).

No more Okey4Love as you fondly call my husband and he will respond…. Aunty Ngo mu oo. Keneziaa(Greet) ndi be’anyi there……odiegwu oooo.

TRIBUTE TO A BELOVED SISTER NGO
Now I truly understand it when people say, "I don't know where to start". One of the toughest times is to deal with death of a dear one. I never believed I would be writing your tribute this soon. This is all so sudden! The thought of never seeing you again brings tears to the eyes of Solo Nwa mama as you used to call me. Each time I think about you, I see in you elegance and remember our conversations and your aspirations and your love for the family close and extended.
I will never forget your input in my life. You are my Mentor! A great motivator.
I remembered living with you in kaduna in the 80's, you showed selflessness to a fault and made me and everyone feel very welcome. I arrived in kaduna you hugged me and shouted Solo Nwa mama So you are in kaduna .
Sister Ngo, Mummy Kaduna is an Amazon, caring and loving. Sister Ngo enjoyed having family and friends and community around her, She is a pleasant woman, loved to cook, feed and warmly entertain anyone that came visiting.
Mummy Kaduna as my children often called you, memories of you will forever love on in my heart and the lives of the people, you have touched with your loving and generous nature. We are your legacy. You are an embodiment of service to human which will be too numerous for me to mention.
Your generosity and hospitality knows no bound, your kindness was faultless, your smiles and laughs can not be compared while your kitchen never had a key.
You gave and you appreciated while giving. You had a very good heart, your relationship and presence was a blessing and I will miss you and your phone calls every Sundays to find out about my weekly activities.
But we should never question what God has planned, sometimes it is not for us to understand. I will always be grateful to God for letting us to cross paths. While we mourn, we will also find comfort in knowing you lived a life of fulfillment. We love you Sister Ngo. Rest in peace.

“Nne Nwam” as we fondly called each other, it broke my heart to hear of your passing, but I am grateful for the love we shared in this life time. When I needed assistance after the death of my Husband, you came through and took my last son, raised him and treated him like your own. I miss you, but I am comforted with the fact that you are in a better place and have no fear or worries! Sail on beautiful soul, and go on with the Mahanta on your highland journey home.

To My Darling Mummy Kawo,

Although we cannot hear your voice,
Or see your smile once more,
We know you walk beside us still
Just as you did before.
You listen to our stories still and wipe away our tears
You wrap your arms around us, and understand our fears.
It’s just you aren’t visible to be seen with human eye,
But I’ll talk to you in silence and I feel you will reply,
I’ll feel the love you have for us –
I’ll hear you in my heart
You’ve left your human body but
Our souls will never part.

I miss you so badly, but I’m blessed to have known such a loving and caring mummy.

Loved Forever,

When daddy’s car was stolen on Khadija’s birthday, in the shortest possible time you arranged a new car for him, Ahmed remembers you grilling a whole chicken for him, in 1985 for his birthday. He thought you own the Peugeot company in Kaduna. You gifted a brown ceiling fan to us in 1984 ooooo you did sooo much for us we did not even know, aunty how could u leave your children like this hummmmm. As painful as it is we give you to God because he knows best. You will forever bee in our hearts. From Ahmed with love, from Mariam with love from Khadija with love and from Nabs her husband with love as she called him. Bye for now aunty

Winnifred Akpati, my friend of all times. You love unconditionally. You are generous as only one with a heart of your size could be. You are a great mother to your children and to mine as well. You are gone but you still here with me. I feel you always will, for you are right here still, in the warmest part of my heart. I'll be with you in due time. Rest in peace. Ruth.

On behalf of Aka Oguine:
To Aunty Ngozi.
I remember very few things as clearly as watching DSTV at 12 in Park View when mama and Aunty Ngozi would bring in the ludo board–your queue to halt any video game you thought you were about to spend the whole day playing for at least the next 2 hours. In hindsight, I’d have to attribute 90% of the self-control and strategic planning which has allowed me to progress through various social and academic hurdles to those seemingly inconsequential ludo sessions with Aunty Ngozi. While I wish we’d have gotten to play one more game at 4B, I know that we will one day.
When I see Moby, Kosi, Mama, Ebuka, Uche and Ifeme working hard and excelling in different parts of the globe, I think back to the training ground. I think back to 4B where you, Grandma and Aunty Emi cultivated the loving discipline that allowed my brothers and I to do things we never thought we could. I know you would be proud of how far your nephews, nieces, daughters and sons have come. We would not have been able to do this without the love, strength and support you showed us every time we visited you. Aunty Ngo, we love and miss you. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. We will continue to make you proud from down here. Rest in perfect peace Aunty. With Love, Aka.

Tribute to My Brother, my Dear Sister, and my Darling Friend
I am very grateful to God that I had the opportunity of meeting you in this lifetime.
I was lonely among friends when you took me up and showered me with such great affection, that it made me wonder how I came to deserve a friend like you. You could sit and dine with the mighty but you always choose to sit beside me. Me, a lonely Child of God. I will never forget how you encouraged my first halting footsteps on this Path of ECKANKAR and I never looked back. You were a Beautiful Channel for the ECK, a Giver, and a Lover of Life. ECKANKAR Seminars in Kaduna found your house jam-packed with people from all over the country. You not only sheltered them, you also fed them.
I appreciate you,
I celebrate you,
I love you.
Sail on BeaHUUUtiful Soul that was my friend, NGOZI.
Sail on Omo Mahanta to the abode of God.

On behalf of Stella (Nke Nke, your daughter):
My darling beautiful aunty Ngo,

We didn’t think that you would leave so soon, and so unexpectedly. It’s still so difficult to imagine that you are indeed gone. You were like a magnet that brought out all the love and best qualities in us all. Always a joy to be with and so full of life. You were never judgmental and were always fair minded and kind to everyone. You had such a big heart, I hardly ever heard you utter unkind words to anyone or about anyone.

You laughed so easily, and I constantly hear your infectious laughter in my head and think how if I had known, that your time with us was so short, we would have found even more things to laugh about.

You never failed to let us all know how much you loved us and how lucky you thought you were to be part of this family. It was something that you said to us all the time. We feel very privileged to have had you in our lives, and only wish that you had even more time with us.

Thank you for being part of some of our best memories.
We shall love you forever.

Death is a mystery, an inevitable one whose explanation and understanding lie only with our Creator, the Lord God Almighty in whose hands lies the destiny of all mankind. Though inevitable, we still lament and grieve when it happens, especially when the departed is no less than my best friend, our Ngee, our own mummy Kawo, snatched away by the cold hands of death. Nnem, I don't even know how to go about this tribute. It is hard. The sad news of your passing hit me like a thunderbolt. In spite of the situation in the world today that has awakened the consciousness of many to the ephemeral nature of life, nothing could have prepared me and my family for this. Ours was more than just friendship. We shared a lot together. You were my friend, my sister, my confidante and a lot more. You will be sorely missed.              Ngee, our hearts ache but deep within we know that your life is way beyond the confines of death. All that you were in life continues to be all that you are in death...........wonderful, loving, kind, caring and incredibly generous.
I pray that Almighty God grants you eternal rest. May He console Festus,  Ifeme, and us all who loved you so much and may He grant us the fortitude to bear this loss.
Requiescat in pace!!

On behalf of Dr. Felicia Nneka Enwezor, Kaduna:
A TRIBUTE IN HONOUR OF MRS NGOZI WINIFRED AKPATI.

I received with sadness the news of the death of Mrs Ngozi Winifred Akpati and I send my condolences to the Akpati and Mbanefo families. May God grant Mrs Ngozi Winifred Akpati eternal rest in His kingdom amen.

The late Mrs Ngozi Winifred Akpati was once our former Vice President, Onitsha Improvement Union (OIU), Women's Wing Kaduna. It was in Kaduna that I met for the first time this warm and affectionate woman. No dull moments and she lived a joyous life.
Her charisma and enchanting smiles endeared her to almost all who came across her. She had the spirit of giving and reached out to many as she could. Aunty Ngozi not minding the age difference between us, would greet me in a very special way 'nnemochie' with laughter that pervaded the whole place, reminiscent of what my beloved son Adiri would say ''onasoi" and I readily replied 'nnukwu nwadiani'. With the good life she lived, I am persuaded that this great woman of love and joy has gone home to be with her Maker, God Almighty. To her husband, Mr F. Akpati, her lovely son Ifeme, Emy her sister and others and indeed all who are left to mourn her, I pray that God will console and comfort you amen. HE will grant you the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, amen. Please know that I am with you in spirit during this moment of grief. Adieu, adieu, adieu, nnukwu nwadiani!!!

TRIBUTE TO MY AUNTY MUMMY NGO.
And again the valiantly cold and bold , daring, ruthless, arrogant, reckless, enemy of humanity has struck again, on this occasion, its wicked hands dealt us an irreparable blow which is regrettably permanent. It has arrogantly snatched our humble but brilliant, amiable, charitable, peace-loving and unassuming mummy from us to a rude and shocking manner a good woman.
May her soul rest on peace.

Dear Aunty Ngozi. Your joyous and caring personality will be missed and we are forever grateful and thankful for you. You always had a smile and kind word for all you met. Our memories of you are in our hearts.  I’m fortunate to have a photograph that supports this account. The picture is one you, Aunty Chinwe and I took at my mom’s 85th Birthday in Lagos. You and your sister were decked out in the finest Nigerian ensemble, confident as usual with beautiful smiles. We love you. You will be missed. Take your rest in perfect peace.

TRIBUTE TO A DEAR AUNT
Mummy Kaduna, you are a beautiful flower plucked from the flower bed of life to be a sweet-smelling savour in the presence of your maker... Sweet memories fill me anytime I remember the times you found pleasure in sharing with us which will forever be cherished. Growing up, we always felt your motherly warmth and found consolation in you whenever we got downhearted. Your benevolent smile lifted our hearts anytime you were near us. The glow in your presence always sent encouragement to far and wide. Everyone admired your wisdom, flair, and sense of humour. You were a role model, and now we can proudly say that you left footprints in the sands of time. Auntie, you were calm even when a situation seemed unbearable. Admittedly, we have lost a precious jewel and if death were stoppable, we would have kept it from coming your way. Fare thee well dearest Aunty. You fought a good fight and won the race. You left a legacy that will be read through the generations, current and to come. You left a mark in our hearts, and nothing will ever erase.
May blessings be.

TRIBUTE TO A DEAR SISTER-IN-LAW
Ng Baby!... Death and indeed a death so painful like yours reminds me of the brevity of life which we often take for granted; too much so. The last time we spoke, you made me believe all was well as it’s always been your nature to be calm and peaceful even in the face of unprecedented trials. Your amiable personality will forever be missed, but we thank the Almighty for giving us an opportunity to love and be loved by you. Alas, we cannot question Him but pray He comforts us and grants you the eternal peace you deserve.

Oh what happened to my sweet Auntie Ngo. You consoled me when I lost my husband last year and kept in touch to know how we were doing severally.

It broke my heart to hear of your passing Mummy KÐ,you were an amazing soul, full of laughter and love. I am happy I was able to talk with you,  and say I love you after the phone call, shortly before you left this world. The last time I saw you in 2019, you reminded me that the beauty of life was the relationships that we have with the people in our life, not money or anything else. I am grateful for the many memories that we shared, for your unconditional love and concern for my well being.
I will miss your voice and the way you spell out my name A...Z...U. When you call me. Although your physical body is no more, I am comforted with the fact that your soul lives on, as soul never dies.

Until we meet again!! Sail on !!!! ❤️❤️
