My Brother

February 24, 2021
May my brother Kuya Nick, Nicanor Padilla Nabong Rest In Peace, and my condolences and prayers to his immediate Family - his wife Ate Evelyn, and their children, Peachy, Jaime Lyn, and Lloyd as well as to his/our sister Ate Ruth and his de Guzman siblings, Kuya Nardo, Ate Vergie, myself Domingo, and Ben.

Kuya Nick was a talented entertainer; at our numerous Family events and gatherings, pre-pandemic days, I remember him playing guitar and taking turns singing with our older brothers and amazing singers Kuya Reg, Kuya Robert, and Kuya Dol, and our brother-in-law Raymond. I’m very grateful for the many joys he and our brothers gave to us during their time.

Further, I’m thankful for his time taking care of me while I was his younger teenage brother newly arrived from the Philippines and growing up at our uncle’s house at Shotwell and various apartments in the Mission district of SF.He brought me along to many picnics, played basketball with me, and showed me how to ride a motorcycle.

Rest In Peace Kuya Nick, my Brother always.

Love you forever Uncle Nick

February 23, 2021
When I think back to my childhood I have a lot of memories with my Uncle Nick from him and my dad (Palos) singing all hours of the night to family time spent at the farm but one memory stands out the most.. As a little girl Uncle Nick would pay me in nickels to draw on his feet with a pen until he fell asleep. I would draw til there was no space left lol. And atthe time I didn’t understand how much money a nickel was but I thought it was a lot. Haha
Miss you Uncle, May you Rest in Love.

I was probably closest to Nick out of all my brother-in-laws, from the time I married his sister until he left for the Philippines, he and Evelyn were always a part of my life.  In the seventies we lived around the corner from each other in Daly City, I commuted on the back of his bike to our jobs in the city (no helmet), the first band I sang in was with Nick. Off and on for close to eight years.  Santa Cruz, Clear lake, Escalon, we traveled as one big family, kids and friends in tow. Nick and I shared a casual informal relationship, I could just show up at his door without invitation and be welcomed in, but he was like that with everyone he knew.  If Ruth and I ever needed anything Nick and Evelyn would always provide, if they could, without a word or a second thought.  I will miss my brother, but Jehovah willing I will see him again, In the mean time I will continue to forever love him and Evelyn. Ruth and I will also continue to love and look out for Peachy, Jamie, and Lloyd. A family that will forever be in my heart.
Goodbye my brother. .... Raymond
