To the family and friends of Nina Huizinga,
We, The New York Chapter of the Granny Peace Brigade were so shocked and sad to learn of Nina's death. We knew her as a fearless and tireless fighter for justice in her Philadelphia community and beyond. When the Granny Peace Brigade of New York initiated a "Granny Trek" through a dozen cities en route to Washington DC in the summer of 2006, Nina invited several of us to stay at her home. In addition to a comfortable and enjoyable couple of days in the company of this smiling and gentle yet feisty grandmother, we had the pleasure of supporting Nina and the other grannies in their protest at the Recruiting Center and subsequent arrests. We remain inspired by Nina's years of commitment and obvious joy in everything she did in her full and productive life.
The Granny Peace Brigade offers our most sincere condolences to her family. Nina will never be forgotten.P.S. I just found a video online about the Trek and your protest that has a couple of lovely shots of Nina being arrested. You may have seen it, but just in case you haven't, here is the link.
