Norbert Ruskamp
Norb was a great man to know. He was liked by all, and I was lucky enough to be with him in advanced basic in Ft. Dix, New Jersey. We had a lot of good times together. After a short furlough we went to Ft. Lewis, Washington - waiting to board the boat for Korea. Money was scarce and we would walk to a large lake outside the base where we would rent a rowboat for 10 cents an hour or rent a boat with a motor for 25 cents an hour. In o rder to save our money we rowed around instead of renting the motor. We had a lot of fun!
After we got to Korea, we were sent to different outfits. I still saw Norb two times in Koria. We always stayed in touch and feel fortunate to have Norb and his family as our tru friends throughout the years.
