Norman Lee Hughes, Sr. of Oxford, NC passed away peacefully at his home on March 24, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was a native of Granville County and the son of Vance and Annie Hughes. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Clara Wright Hughes.

He spent his fulfilling seventy-three years hitting golf balls across the course, knocking pins down at the bowling alley, picking in his garden, hauling loads with his transfer truck, loving and being loved by his family, and keeping his heater filled with wood.

Survivors include one son Norman Hughes, Jr. (Cathy); two grandchildren Abby and Tyler Hughes, two siblings Shelby Jean Fuller and Jerry Elliott. He was preceded in death by one step son Johnny Edwards, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held at Eakes Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26th with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Eakes Chapel with eulogy by Preacher Sam Brewer. Burial to follow at Meadowview Cemetery in Oxford. The family will be receiving visitors at other times at the home.
