Norvel was born to Harris J Dorsey, Sr and Olga McBride Dorsey on July 29,1938 in Groves, Texas.he was the fourth of seven children, Betty, Harris Jr., Tommy, himself and Ronald and Donald. He attended Catholic school in Port Neches then transitioned to Port Neches High Class of 1955. While attending Port Neches High he played football for coach Lewis Ford as a linebacker. He executed the most legendary play in Port Neches - Groves High school history against Alice,Tx, when he was inserted in the game as an offensive guard and took a "camouflaged ball" from QB Bobby Falgout and scored on a 59 yard run with 1:14 left in the game and secured the semifinal win 14-7. The following week the Indians became the State Champions Norvel was selected to the All-State team and is honored in the Port Neches-Groves Football Hall of Fame. In 1957 he completed Pipefitters Apprentice course under the auspices of Pipefitters Local 195. Norvel was a member of the National Guard in 1958. In 1960, Norvel was awarded outstanding apprentice out of 15 counties. He attended Lamar University, Texas A&M, and Purdue Universities in a teacher education program. 1969 found him as an instructor in Trigonometry, drafting, and isometric shop drawings for pipe fabrication. He enjoyed his work as a Pipefitter and remained a loyal member. Throughout his life he was a devoted father to Julie, Karen, Deanna and Lori. He was rewarded with five grandchildren ; Timothy , Lauren, Kelli , Darcy and Blake. Throughout his life he treasured his Family, friends and work. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golf, and travel. His work carried him abroad to Singapore, Taiwan, Canada and Australia. At age 67, Norvel bungee jumped in Australia. In 2006, Norvel retired to his home in Port Neches,Tx Telling stories of his traveling experiences. In 2010, he became a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He developed Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and fought admirably for one year before he heard the word Remission. Five months after he heard the word Remission, Norvel passed away at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas with family members beside him.
