How do one begin to write an eulogy for an uncle like you?
I have tried to come up with a tribute befitting for a man like my uncle but each time I pick up my phone to start typing I get so emotional.. I keep postponing it so it won't hurt as much but I want to say that his life was a testimony that will be written on the tablets of our hearts forever.

People say he was this and he was that.. They say how much he has impacted their lives... let me put it this way.. If friends, colleagues, church members and acquaintances benefitted deeply from having known him, how much more do you think we "THE FAMILY" benefitted?

He was the HUB of the wheel of our family... He brought us together with his gentle and comforting Jokes & laughter..
He saw the funny side to most issues..
One of the brightest minds you will ever meet as he had a very gentle and analytical way of passing his opinions across. I guess it was the Lawyer streak in his nature.

But most importantly, he had a way of making you feel that you mattered. He left some wonderful memories for which I am eternally grateful.

Oh death... Why?  My heart breaks with so much grief but my only consolation is that you are in a much better place.. We love you but God loves you more.

You will continue to live on forever in our hearts and thoughts... The beautiful moments you shared with us will be cherished forever and we are eternally grateful to God for giving us those moments however brief they may have seem.
Love and miss you greatly.

Rest on dearest Uncle.

Bro. Obafemi Ogundare: See What God has Done!

I received with shock the news of Bro. Ogundare’s transition on July 22, 2021. I did not know what to make of it, because I was not aware he had been ill or indisposed in any way. However, I have since then been recalling my memories of my interaction with him.

He came to New Realm Baptist Church with his wife as a young family in the 1990s. I did not know much about him until he came forward to be baptized by immersion. After his baptism, we started having fairly regular conversations, oftentimes around my sermon topics. He was an encourager to me in this respect.

I was aware of his professional calling as a lawyer, but I did not imagine then how that would make him a strategic pillar to the emerging future of the church. But it did not take much time for his role to emerge. God, our father, really cut out for him his specific role in the church.

When the church building project began in 1995 and, almost immediately, we started having issue with land speculators and grabbers around us, Bro. Ogundare stepped forward to take up the case at the court on behalf of the church. His practice was still in its infancy, and one would have expected him to ask for certain financial input from the church, especially as the case dragged on. I do not know how things evolved on this after I left, but he did not ask the church for a dime while I was still in the church as the pastor. However, he updated me on the case each time we met afterwards. I was interested in the way the matter would end.

If New Realm Baptist Church would miss something I know about Brother Ogundare, it is the thoroughness with which he executed the case, which should be a significant model for the upcoming generation. He went very far into government archives and consulted professional surveyors who tutored him on the facts he argued in the court in contestation with big names in the legal profession. In the end, he won the case for the church. The professionalism and thoroughness with which he argued the case baffled one of the opposing lawyers who asked if he studied land surveying.

It was only recently I came to know that the matter had continued since it was first decided in the High Court of Lagos State and is presently at the highest court of the land. I was told of his other commitments to the life of the church too. My immediate lamentation was that he did not get the case of the church to the final finishing line, which in human thinking would have carved for him a niche among the professional greats in the land. But we all can take consolation in the trust that he is with his Lord now; and although he is no more with us physically, his work is following after him. Much more, let us trust that the faithful judge of all the earth will cause his descendants after him to thrive in the land. Goodbye, servant of God, Bro. Ogundare. Well done!

This is hard for me to do, but what can I do other than to pay a tribute to a Father, Brother, uncle, friend, colleague and mentor.
Oga, you came to my life sometimes in 2010 and your positive impact was felt by my entire family and colleagues in my chambers, most of whom are still finding it difficult to come to terms with the reality on ground.
I recalled you came to Abuja precisely on the 5th July and travelled back to Lagos on the 7th July 2021 wherein I insisted I'll be the one to drop you off at the airport without a premonition that It was going to be our last meeting on this sinful world . You did promised that you'll be back for us to complete the unfinished business you came for in Abuja.
Man proposes, but God disposes and have the final say.
My Oga as I fondly call you, this was not you promised me .
You're a rare personality who is never carried away by age and achievements.
You were humility personified.
I recalled when we traveled together to the USA , your care for me in the States like a Father and son, your words of encouragement and prayers for me always.
May the Lord grant you eternal rest of his bosom.
May perpetual light shine your way to eternity .
My consolation is the promise that there is another fellowship in heaven.
Adieu my mentor!
Adieu my colleague!!
Adieu my brother and friend!!!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this Tribute to the fond memory of my dear friend and beloved brother Obafemi Ogundare ESQ a.k.a “Femo La Boy”
Femo, only this second half of year 2020, you stood by me at the hour of my own darkness. You proved what a loyal, true and dependable friend you were. Like Jonathan to David, I say, very pleasant hast thou been unto me. I cherish your sincere and brotherly love.
As a lawyer, you worked and toiled hard and left an indelible mark in the field of criminal law and prosecution, your specialty. How the mighty has fallen! Our consolation is that we shall meet you again on the resurrection morning and love forever in paradise with the Lord Jesus Christ.Adieu! Femo. Good Night.

Adieu Uncle Femi. You will be forever missed. But we know we will meet again to part no more at the feet of the Lamb.

You called my husband and I the other day, and you said you had meant to call with Aunty Dupe. But she stepped out and you would go ahead to call anyway, that she can always call us later. Little did we know it was a farewell call.

We can never forget all the moments of studying the Bible together at the Amuwo 1 Home fellowship. Or the Christmas party at your house or is it the zonal home fellowship meetings?

Rest on Uncle Femi Ogundare.

Till we meet again on the Resurrection Morning.

TRIBUTE TO BARRISTER OBAFEMI OGUNDARE
The news of Brother Femi Ogundare's exit from the earth to eternity with God came to us unexpectedly and has left us bewildered. He was fondly referred to as Uncle Ogundare, Barrister Ogundare or Brother Ogundare.
In our midst, he was a recognized and willing Legal Luminary who professionally and selflessly helped the church with all her legal issues/ concerns and through God’s grace he recorded great exploits.
He also prodded us to operate within the ambit of the Law and the Church Constitution. He was readily available to shed light on the grey areas of the Constitution at the Business meetings of the Church.
He had a gentle but firm personality and had a unique way of painting reality as he drives home his point at any given time. Even with his busy schedule, he regularly made himself and his family available to attend means of grace that provides the opportunity to pray and interact with others in order to grasp the word of eternal life.
Until his passing on to glory, he was the Chairman, Human Resources Management Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Church. He was a team player who strived to achieve assigned tasks within a given time. This was seen during the 2017 review of the Church Constitution which was accomplished within record time.
The vacuum left by his transition to glory will be greatly felt by the Church. May the Lord God grant the comfort of the Holy Spirit to the family and the Church in Jesus Christ name.

Our interactions with the Ogundares started when we joined New Realm Baptist Church Ojo in 2008. We attended the same home fellowship. Daddy Ogundare joins the fellowship anytime he was able to arrive early from work. We enjoined rich times of fellowship in studying the Bible and in prayers. He and the wife occasionally facilitated at our zonal couples’ fellowship and they were always there to share of their various experiences to us as older couples. Barrister Ogundare was a lover of children, he shares jokes with our children and gives them “money for biscuits” occasionally.

As the legal adviser of NRBC Ojo, Barrister Ogundare played his part well to ensure the victory of the church at the different court cases. He was also the chairman of the Human Resources Management Committee (HRMC) of the church. He ensured issues of staff welfare and remuneration are well looked into. He was a generous giver and humane personally.
Though you are no more here with us, you will be remembered for your good deeds and the legacies you left.

Till we meet to part no more

      "The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance" Psalm 112:6b

The news of your call to glory came as a rude shock. But God knows the best!

We are grateful to God for the life you lived and for all that He used you to accomplish while you were on this side of the divide. You loved and served the Lord with all your heart. This was demonstrated in your service and love for others.

You touched so many lives; you gave generously and were genuinely concerned about the welfare of others. One of the areas you served was head of the Human Resources Committee of the church and in that capacity, you ensured an improvement in the conditions of service of workers in the church. During festive seasons you sent personal cash gifts to church staff. You were always willing to share!

You were available, dependable and faithful in service to the Lord. No doubt you have gone to receive your reward.

Your life was impactful and a blessing to all. You will be greatly missed!

Good bye Sir till we meet on the resurrection morning.

My hero, my mentor, my best friend, the nuturer of my dreams and my loving father. I never imagined this day will come this soon. You left me behind and it feels like I'm all alone. A part of me seems gone and I'm unable to comprehend your sudden departure. Daddy this was not what we discussed. This was never in the plan. We always celebrated special days with you. How do we celebrate without you?  We always prayed everytime with you. We always sang hymns everytime with you. You were my counsel, an impartial mentor.

I know you understood what happened in those last hours but you shielded it from me. You've always been my protector and my guide. You carried me in your arms when I was little and held my hands while I was growing up. You have been my pillar Dad, you have given my dreams the drive it requires. Through your unrelenting love, you've made me see a clearer future and be a better version of myself.

We’ll always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace, you always gave us. You being there for Mom and us, through good and bad times, no matter what. We’ll always remember you Dad because there will never be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you.

Your death left a scar in my heart but your legacy will stand in my life. I love and miss you. Till we meet to depart no more.

Daddy I was utterly shocked, confused and could not believe it when I heard of your sudden dead. I am so deeply pained by the sad news. Ever since i was a kid you have taken and treated me as the daughter you never had, you also made me your gist partner, guided and advice me on many occasions on my work ethics and how to achieve my goals professionally. Just recently in June precisely you told me you will make sure I attend next year Hajji which I highly I look forward to. But like they always say man proposes and God in disposes. You have done so many wonderful things in my life that cannot be erased or forgotten easily. Rest on Daddy in bossom of the Almighty God !!!

My friend, my colleague, we were friends for over 15 yrs but like vapour you left. You were gentle, unassuming, kind to a fault. You related with your juniors as though they were your mates. Your passage came to me as a rude shock. It has pleased GOD to call you for if it was within human powers, your friend would have fought for you, if it was prayers we'll offer it to the Almighty, if it was money, even if we do not have, we'll borrow . God has called you for a greater assignment, to be one of his Angels . I lament on your passage. Rest on my good friend till we meet to part no more. Will always remember you.

Barrister words cannot be enough to express how much grief we felt on hearing the news of your sudden death. It is indeed very shocking and hard to comprehend even as we write this tribute. Your examplary life is out there for us to emulate, personally from the time i became part of this family you took me in and relate with me as an old buddy you knew way back despite the age difference and your ability to adapt to any given situation is second to none. I always observed how you demonstrated high sense of generosity, humility, love, care to all and sundry who happen to cross your path. It is indeed a painful loss for us because you are a man of many world. God Almighty knows best.
My wife often shed tears whenever she reflect on the various interaction she has had with you including your fatherly and mentorship role you provided to shape her life will be forever missed.
God in His infinite mercy will forgive all your misgivings and grant you eternal rest. God will provide your family fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

GREY WIG AT HEAVEN'S LEARNED PORTAL

This is one death too many! Why? Why this time? We saw last at Dewunmi's birthday ceremony and you commented on my loss of weight. As usual, we had so many things to talk about but there was no time. Had I known that would be the last chance! Every opportunity we had, you were always ready to swap professional experiences with me. You never one day asserted your seniority at the Bar.

Barrister Ogundare, you were quintessentially humble. We served together in the Constitution Review Committee of New Realm Baptist Church. As the chair of the Committee, you never insisted that any clause be drafted in a particular way yet you were very thorough. You led us as we meiticulously combed through the entire document word for word, not once but severally. Even when some of us were getting tired of our long meetings, your gentle prodings were irrisistable.

That land matter against NRBC: I remember about four of us appeared for the Church at the beginning in 2000, but somehow we all got busy with our businesses along the way, but you continued single handedly to hold the brief of the Church without wavering, even recently at the Court of Appeal after almost 20 years.

You were unapologetically a literal constructionist; you believed words in a document should be given their ordinary interpretation. No fancy arguments. And indeed that was your approach to life: Straight to the point, no pretensious spirituality. Perhaps you knew something we didn't know.

Who could have imagined you would depart so soon? Boisterous in a subdued manner. Healthy and full of life. Who could have dared to imagine you lifeless? Your demise is still a shock too difficult to grasp. Learned Senior, you took a bow and exited while proceedings were still on going. If only we knew, we could have applied for an enlargement of time on your behalf. Not in law, but in equity. We could have restrained death itself with a plea of autrefois acquit because Jesus already died in your place at Calvary. Alas, no one knew!

Fare there well, learned senior as you join the company of grey wigs at the heaven's learned portal. Adieu!!!

Bar. Ogundare Obafemi, you're a brother, a friend and my business partner.

You're an able and strong soldier in the Lord's Army most especially when we served together in Men's Missionary Union of New Realm Baptist Church, Ojo. Our achievement and accomplishments was mostly credited to your big brotherly roles and encouragement I enjoyed working with you.

As a friend, you never let the age gap speak in our talks and relationship. I cherished your humility and advice so much. You will be missed so much my brother the Barrister.

As my Barrister, you stood for me. You managed me and even planned my future with me. I never knew you will alight so soon ...... I thought the journey was still far. You set the pace in uprightness, love and care. I will continue to uphold these noble values and virtues of yours.

Good night my brother, till we meet at the Lord's feet .....

1.Processional Hymn – “For All the Saints” BH 144

“For All the Saints”
1.For all the saints who from their labours rest,
Who thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name O Jesus, be forever blest.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
2.Thou wast their Rock their Fortress and their Might;
Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
3.O may thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
4. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
5.From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
Thro’ gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen

4.Hymn –“Jerusalem on High”

  • Jerusalem on high,
My song and city is,
My home whene’er I die,
The centre of my bliss;
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?

2. There dwells my Lord, my King,
Judged here unfit to live;
There angels to Him sing
And lowly homage give;
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?
3.The patriarchs of old
There from their travels cease;
The prophets there behold
Their longed-for Prince of Peace;
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?
4.The Lamb’s apostles there
I might with joy behold,
The harpers I might hear
Harping on harps of gold:
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?
5.The bleeding martyrs, they
Within these courts are found,
Clothèd in pure array,
Their scars with glory crowned;
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?
6.Ah me! ah me! That I
In Kedar’s tent here stay;
No place like that on high;
Lord thither guide my way;
Oh, happy place!
When shall I be,
My God, with Thee,
To see Thy face?

11.Recessional Hymn: “It Is Well with My Soul”

BH 265, “It Is Well with my Soul”

  • When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
    When sorrows like sea billows roll;
    Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
    It is well, it is well, with my soul.
  • Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
  • My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
    My sin, not in part but the whole,
    Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
    Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
  • And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
    The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
    The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
    Even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

“The Strife Is O’er” BH 107
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
1.The strife is o’er, the battle done;
The victory of life is won;
The song of triumph has begun:
Alleluia!
2.The powers of death have done their worst,
But Christ their legions hath dispersed;
Let shouts of holy joy outburst:
Alleluia!
3.The three sad days have quickly sped,
He rises glorious from the dead;
All glory to our rising Head:
Alleluia!
4.Lord, by the stripes which wounded Thee,
From death’s dread sting Thy servants free,
That we may live and sing to Thee:
Alleluia!

“Jesus Lives! Thy Terrors Now”

1.Jesus lives! thy terrors now
Can, O death, no more appall us;
Jesus lives! by this we know
Thou, O grave, canst not enthrall us.
Hallelujah!
2.Jesus lives! Henceforth is death
Entrance-gate of Life immortal;
This shall calm our trembling breath,
When we pass its gloomy portal.
Hallelujah!
3.Jesus lives! For us He died;
Hence may we, to Jesus living,
Pure in heart and act abide,
Praise to Him and Glory giving.
Hallelujah!
4.Jesus lives! Our hearts know well
Naught from us His love shall sever;
Life, nor death, nor powers of hell
Part us from Christ forever.
Hallelujah!
5.Jesus lives! To Him the Throne
High o’er heaven and earth given;
We, may go where He is gone,
Live and reign with Him in heaven.
Hallelujah!
