OBITUARY

Odette Souverain

Odette Souverain transitioned to her eternal life on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the age of 70.  "Claudette" as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was born on March 30, 1945 to the late Cadeus Cadet and Sophie Germain in Petionville, Haiti.  Odette was preceded in death by her brothers Andre, Pierre, Murat, and her sisters Carmen and Ananie.

She attended school at Nationale de Frere de Frere in Haiti and later became a seamstress.  Odette married the love of her life Louis Antione Martin Souverain on September 5, 1979 and from this union they were blessed to have four children; Jean Rene, Claude, Pascal and Martine.  Odette and her beloved husband Martin migrated to the United States January 14, 1982, in hopes of a better opportunity for their family.   Odette worked for Wyndham/Melrose hotel for over twenty years and retired November 25, 2011.

Odette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Godmother who was the true essence of a matriarch.  She was very charismatic, vibrant, and voice tress woman.  She had a personality that was full of life.  You always knew when you encounter her that she was going to make you smile.  She loved her family but more importantly she loved her country.  She never forgot where she came from and made it a point to travel back to Haiti often with her husband, children, and other family members.  She will always be remembered for her kind spirit and thoughtfulness of others.  She never forgot her roots and the family in Haiti who she loved dearly.

Odette leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband, Martin Souverain, three sons, Jean Rene, Claude, and Pascal; one daughter Martine; grandchildren, Shawn and Ashanti; a host of step-children, brothers, sisters, in laws, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends

Good morning Mommy Dedette, last year I was at the store and saw a pot that resembled one that you used to own and cook with. I immediately took a picture of the pot, sent it to Martine and purchased it in remembrance of you. Since then I've been using it and it's my way of having you in my home with me. You would be proud to see me in the kitchen, Matante! I miss you dearly and I love you forever.

I still can’t believe you’re gone. I miss your laughter, I miss your advice, and I miss coming by the house to see you. I pray that you’re at peace and you’re with rest of the family that has left before you.
I love you
