Desiree D. Dennis was born at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford, Illinois, on April 5, 1955, to Winifred Dennis and James Harden. Desiree began her walk with her ancestors on June 16, 2021, at the age of 66, following a lengthy battle with heart disease.
Desiree was a long-time resident of Chicago, Illinois, until 1991, when she relocated to Compton, California. Desiree became involved with the House of Redeemed in an attempt to find her way, where she met many of the new friends, including Nasa Ray, Norvella Vincent, and Lonnie Hampton. She developed unbreakable friendships ranging from Compton, Paramount, Lakewood, Venice, and Los Angeles.
Desiree accepted Christ and was baptized in 2002 at Saint Reed Missionary Baptist Church, where Pastor Charles R. Jones served as pastor.
Desiree was sure to make you laugh, and she always kept it real. Anyone who knew her will attest to the fact that she was a realist. Desiree was an avid fan of General Hospital, Jeopardy, DC Comics, Marvel, and The View. She was a creative individual who spent her free time crocheting and recreating designs and patterns she came across. In general, Desiree was a strong woman, and it would be incorrect to say she lost her battle because no matter how sick she was she always stayed determined. When the average woman would have succumbed, she remained unwavering. We learn what resilience and perseverance are through her. Desiree was not a quitter.
Her beautiful life will be cherished forever by her children. Terah Dennis, a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, Dennis, Winfred, of St. Louis, Missouri, Fallon Dennis is a resident of Los Angeles, California, Jasmine Dennis of Fort Worth, Texas, Louis Dennis of Los Angeles, California, and twins Bryttney and Whyttney Dennis residents of Los Angeles, California. She is survived by 22 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Desiree was the eldest of eight siblings. Dennis family members include Arlen Dennis of Illinois, Illionis, Pervilla Dennis of Compton, CA, Douglas Singletary of Texas, Maxine Dennis of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeffery Dennis of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jacqueline Dennis of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Her Mother Winifred Dennis, Father James Harden, Grandmother Previlla Dennis, Favorite Aunt Maxine, Sister Donna, and best friends Nasa and Sheryl all predeceased her.
She attended Rockford High school.
And in Desiree’s words, “Peace. See Ya”
