Good night Grandpa,
The young always think they will live forever, but it is days like this that remind me our time on this Earth is fleeting. Therefore it is important to actually live, take care of family and be charitable. These are the things people remember you for, because these are the things I remember you for. Your dedication, wisdom and passion to help others is a lasting legacy etched forever in our hearts. Rest in peace Grandpa.

We call him the chief daddy even long before the movie chief daddy. He is my father , my friend, my mentor, and more than words can explain fully.
It is not our wish you should leave us at "an early age of 86" so much values we gained, and we were still gaining from you. You were an elder that was not a burden to anyone even till death rather you were the elder that takes care of everyone even in your death.
I learnt a lot of values from you , family was paramount, how you took good care of each one of us , guaranteed our safety (especially the speed and manner we relocated after the robbery incedent at irepodun) . Quality Education was necessary, this is evident in the choice of school we attended. I learnt patience from you, with the way you tactically dealt with your tenants with benevolence, l learnt to give from you,(giving without expectation) countless people both family and non family benefitted from you. I learnt passion, dedication and perseverance from you, (how u transformed from a tailor in okemesi-ekiti to a teacher to a life fellow of the United kingdom chattered institute of bankers and in Nigeria. You used comic approach to teach us some little things of life, I remember the nights of Oro didundidun (sweet stories).Your dedication to service lead the foundation of the Iju community bank and Holla memorial school, you single handedly sponsored so many students, I did not understand it then but now I understand it better.
Your demise created a very big void, not our Will but we need to submit to fate because Heavens gained one, you are in a better place now.
Rest on Baba mi.

A lot of people my age never got to meet their grandparents, I’m so thankful I got to meet mine. I loved spending a lot of my holidays at your place, you were so cheerful, strong and hardworking. I remember your loud and cheerful laughter that always lighted up the whole house while watching something funny on Yoruba african magic. You always gave me money on my birthday, literally never missed a year since I knew the meaning of money. You fought and did your best till the end, now you have gone to be with the lord. Truly, an icon left us 9th February 2021, but to me a Father, My grandpa left us. You may no longer be around but the legacy you built will never be forgotten. Thank you for the sacrifices you’ve made for every one of your children, grandchildren and great grand children. We love and appreciate you sir.

Good bye Grandpa. We love you❤️

The early hours of February 10th 2021 were one of the most painful hours of my life as far back as I can remember. I had just found out I had lost an icon, a beacon of excellence -my grandfather. He was one of the kindest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Grandpa was very generous and compassionate; not only did he inspire me, he also captivated the hearts of the people around him. I never for once thought the day would come where I would have to write this; It might seem selfish but grandpa was one of those people who I thought could live for the longest time, be there at my wedding and hold my first child; but I know God’s time is the best.
I remember all those summer holidays I would go to Iju to stay with him and grandma, he would tell us stories of why he started the school and how his life was when he was younger. His heart was just filled with love and generosity. If I had known this time would come, I would have probed him to tell me more stories so I could at least feel closer to him. I thank God for letting him live a long-fulfilled life, for using him to bring my mom into this life and for giving me the best grandfather any girl could ask for. My only prayer is that God gives me half the heart my grandfather had. I love you forever grandpa. You have fought the good fight, REST EASY.

Chief Daddy; as I usually call you, even before the movie Chief Daddy was released.
I still remember the first time my wife (your lovely daughter introduced me to you as her husband and your son in law to be); your feedback on that day encouraged me to be who I am today.
You took me as your son and lavished us with all God gave you. I cannot recall anytime we asked you for anything and you said no… Thank you for showing us how to give, love and forgive.
Indeed, you gave all you had and never kept anything for yourself.
I remember the way you always say amen every time we pray for you; declaring that Jesus is your Lord and savior; and that you will leave to become 100 years.... A loud AMEN!!! Is always your response. God surely knows best.
There are so many memories we can think off; was it the day we were stranded at the airport, and you came to our rescue as if it was nothing; or the countless times you stretched forth your hands to help and to counsel. Your counsel we will keep forever…
We will miss you, miss the gist and your laughter at the balcony on Sunday evenings, the birthday gifts… and many more.
Indeed, you came, you sacrificed, taught many, gave to many people; we will never forget you in our hearts.
Sleep well in the Lord till we meet again… BYE CHIEF DADDY!

Whoelese,
Your Son,
Oladapo Adefolaju

Tribute from Paula

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Paula Adefolaju and I am the granddaughter of Oladele Micheal Ogundeji.

My grandfather is one of the people I can look up to no matter how tall I will ever grow. I will miss your presence in my life.

My grandfather was such a precious gift from above for us to love and treasure. Even when you are gone to be with the Lord, you will be in our hearts forever and I know you are in a happier place.

My grandfather was a humble man; he never liked to be the centre of attention. In life and now in death, he wouldn't want us to focus on him. He wouldn't want us to focus on the sadness of his death but instead focus on the happiness in our lives.
He would want us to appreciate each other and our future.

Grandpa, I will always miss you. But I have so many memories to hang on to. You were a role model, a friend, a father, a grandfather, even a great-grandfather.

Your guidance and love will carry us to through to the end of our days. I love you Grandpa until we meet again.

Sorrow comes in great waves....but it rolls over us, and though it may almost smother us, but it passes and we remain.

We love and appreciate you in death Grandpa.

My dearest Grandpa,

I went through various range of emotions when I heard of your passing. From disbelief because I was so certain you would get better, to bargaining; wondering what we could have done better or different to prevent it, then anger and finally acceptance.

But a sense of loss struck me afresh when someone said the "patriarch" of our family had died, and it sunk in that the head of our family was gone. The roles you played in all our lives cannot be overemphasized. You were always present, either physically or a phone call away.

Growing up with you was amazing but getting to spend more time with you in the past year is one of the most memorable times of my life. I have learnt many things from working with you; I saw how you related with people, your kindness and compassion to all, even those that take advantage of you. You always encouraged me to be nicer to people.

When we disagreed on how we should do things, you always remained calm and willing to hear my point of view, and you never tried to impose your decisions on me but explained your views and ideas.

I miss your calm, dependable presence. You have shown us countless times that you will always have our backs. Your strength was amazing; you went to work every day of the week staying till 6pm just in case someone wanted to see you or make inquiries.

Your dedication to family was incomparable. We are all blessed to have been loved and fathered by a man like you.

Your legacy to us is Christlikeness, love, kindness, compassion. You helped all that came to you for assistance; I've seen you give your last money to someone in need.

You will continue to live on in my heart, life and thoughts. I miss you so much and I will always love you.

Rest well Chief Grandpa

It was such a big shock when I heard you passed away. To be honest I thought this would pass by but I guess it was God time for you to go.

Throughout the time I and my brother lived with you, your heart was so generous and your spirit always light up wherever place you may be. I can still hear you voice calling my name whenever I came to disturb you. I miss you so much Grandpa and thank you for your care and support for all the years we stayed with you. I am sure there is celebration above now because you were truly an angel on earth.

It was a rude shock to hear of your death, darling Chief daddy on the 9th of February 2021. It is still unbelievable that you are gone. I can remember your smile and hand wave as you said good night to us, a day before you passed on after speaking with you on video call. I now know that was your gentle way of saying good night for ever. I and my family will forever miss you. You were a big advocate of unity and love in the family and your life was all about kindness and giving. Thank you for being the father that fulfilled his responsibility of guidance to all his children. Love you loads daddy and you will forever be missed.

It is often said that “those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.” Tuesday, 9th February, 2021 will forever be an unforgetable day in my life. This is the day, the person who I admire very much, a father and my father-in-law, Pa Michael Oladele Ogundeji, bid this world fare well. With grateful heart I remember the many ways which his long life and knowledge imparted my life, families, friends, the church of God and many others that came his way. He enriched my life with love and all the encouragements that he gave, his kindness was unimaginable. (He used to advise me not to hold back in giving money to help people, for he believed money is important in the life of any human - “Femi, money is very important” (i.e., “Femi, owo se pataki”) Baba o ninu rere sun re o. I pray that God will grant us the fortitude to bear your loss. Pa Michael Oladele Ogundeji, I pray that the joy of life eternal is yours in Jesus name. (Amen)

It was a great shock when I heard Baba, Elder Oladele Ogundeji left this heart, I don't know that will be the day I will see you last when we worship together on February in our Sunday service. Baba, you're a peaceful maker, gentle indeed, lover of God's work, assistance to all ministers of God in time of needs and always punctual in church. I can not write all your works here but I knew it's already written for you in the Book of Life. Baba Ogundeji sun-un re oooo !!!
