Adieu Daddy

Gone but never forgotten. You were many things to us - a father, a friend, a helper and a lot more. While 78years looks like a long time, we would have loved it if you spent a few more years with us.
But we are rest assured that your legacy will live for many generations. Sleep well in Christ.

Adieu Daddy

My dad was my hero. He was a man of many parts to many people. I remember him as larger than life; he held the spotlight wherever he went. He was extremely generous to his family and people around him and he just exuded confidence in everything he did. He was eloquent! He had a love for crossword puzzles (I do crossword puzzles till this day) and nurtured my love for languages by encouraging me to read always. His work would later drive my choice of career.

Daddy did not believe in anyway that men were superior to women and always encouraged his daughters to pursue their dreams not matter what. My dad was dapper! He was a sharp dresser who would have his initials monogrammed on his work shirts; our sense of fashion definitely came from him. He had a love for reading history and loved akpala music (Haruna Ishola was his favorite artist).

He would buy us Rogers and Hammerstein movies and musicals and take us to watch football when Stationary Stores played at the National Stadium when we were much younger. We miss you and pray for you to continue to Rest In Peace.

Amen.

Your daughter,

Yinka Obilanade.

Dear Grandpa,

I have so much to say but few words with which to convey them.
You were kind, generous and warm. Always welcoming and caring. You took excellent care of everyone that came close to you, and made us your very own children. Nothing was too much for you to give. I have always considered myself the baby of the house, having been born at Sam Shonibare.
I vividly remember our weekend trips to the stadium and watching mtv music videos at the house ( I learnt to rap to snoop dogg’S “Gin N Juice” and eat sausages at the house). Spending time with you was such a delight. You had such an Impression on me at a young age. Your hard work and tenacity was a motivation for me to strive for excellence in life. Yourself and my dad would always say “Apreshinko, you will be a doctor and excel like your aunt Laide”, sealing my career path at a young age. I have you to thank for who I have become today.
Give my dad a hug for me and I love you both so very much.

Rest in perfect peace in the bosom of our savior.

Tribute to my dad.....
You meant so much to me
You were special and that's no lie
You brightened up the darkest day and the cloudiest sky
Your smile alone warmed hearts
Your laugh was like music to hear
I would give absolutely anything to have you well and standing near...Not a second passes when you're not on my mind
Your love I will never forget....The hurt will ease in time....I know that you are happy now and no longer in pain....
Sleep well dad.....

Daddy,You were kind ,generous and very accommodating to all of us.
Within the Shoyomokun clan, you were a beacon of hope.
Many of us caught a glimpse of the brighter future we sought just by looking at you.
Ever so willing to harvest from your network of Goodwill for the good of the Family..
Ever so friendly to the Children.
I remember with nostalgia those Christmas parties you threw for the entire Family ,
they were always filled with much happiness and laughter.
We have ,indeed ,lost a gem !
It's my prayer that God grants you eternal rest in his presence.

I have been very slow in writing anything about Daddy because truly, I am at a loss for words to adequately covey my feelings. He was a father to many and a friend to everyone. He did his best whenever he could whilst being kind, compassionate, GENEROUS to a fault and very unique in his own way. He will certainly be missed.

Daddy, rest in God's perfect and eternal peace.

Dear Father-in-law,

You always had a way of making us laugh. Even when you seemed frail, you never let your mood affect our interactions.

We know you are no longer with us, though you fought long and hard to remain with us.

Thank you for the quality of love and life you gave my Wife. You will always be a special hero to our kids.

We know that you now watch over and protect us, though we cannot hear your voice or see your smile, we know deep down in our hearts that you have not left us.

Rest on Grandpa

Dear Daddy,

Knowing you was loving you, you are one of the people in my life I hold so dear, even though I didn’t always put it out there. (Still love you in death). You were a loving, funny, gorgeous enthusiastic, brilliant, generous and a father to many. You became the father I never had and took me in your care to nurture. You provided for me throughout my formative years, helped me build a solid foundation by sending me to primary & secondary school and I am forever grateful to you.

I will forever cherish those precious moments with you, the jokes you told and how you made us laugh most times you were around, I wish I had just one more chance to tell you I love you and to laugh with you again, but I am confident you are in a better place with the almighty God resting in peace. You will be forever missed daddy ❤️❤️

Dear Dad,

Looking back over time and seeing the humble beginnings you came from, having to make your way through life, and becoming a man so early in your life (Losing your father at age 19), I cannot but wonder if i truly appreciated who you are/were.
A man of many parts. who became a father to so many : children, nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers, sisters. You hovered over everyone like a beacon ( sometimes larger than life). your generosity and kindness is the stuff of legends. oh you also had your shortcomings ( who doesnt?) but when life gave you lemons: you made lemonade with it!
A uniquely gifted and intelligent man, you laid the foundation of life for some many people. You shared yourself without inhibition.

Thank you for all the life lessons ( even the ones you did not intend to teach). A man of many parts and of many journeys, may the road be kind to you as you journey back to your maker... May God our Father bless you and accept your soul into his presence.

We love you dad.

Dear Grandpa,

I still go to your room and marvel that you left us so suddenly. You were the warmest, kindest, loving and accommodating father in law and grandpa. Right from our wedding day you made clear that I was welcome into the family and always extended your love for Olaitan to me. I am glad I got to reciprocate your warmth and generosity of spirit as much as I could.

You were a man of many varied and complex parts but the parts I got to see showed your strength of spirit, resilience and peaceful nature. You never demanded much of anyone and tried your best not to be a burden.

Although we miss your presence, I am assured that you are now resting in the Lord’s bosom, free from all the burdens and inadequacies of this world. I never got to know you as well as I would have liked to as I know we shared many interests including the love of reading, writing, intelligent banter, music and the arts - but I have seen and still see so many of your positive attributes in Olaitan day after day and for this I am forever in your debt. Thank you for contributing to making him the best version of yourself and for the gift of your warmth and acceptance of me.

Rest well dear Grandpa. You are free! Till we meet again at the Lord’s feet.

Love, Ibiolaningbe.

It is with a heavy heart that I put down this tribute to my daddy Olufemi Ogunbiyi.

Daddy, you were one in a million, kind and loving.I can remember the first time I went to Lagos with Uncle Debo(also of blessed memory)to visit my dad's cousins.

You were so welcoming when I visited your home in Sam Shonibare and you told me that you could never trifle with anything/anyone that's connected to 'boda Henri'(my late dad)as he was so good to you and was the one drawing/linking you up with your roots.

Laden with groceries and of course cash, you continually visited Laide and I in OAU, Ife (you of course seized the opportunity to visit Ipetumodu our hometown). Those big palm olive bar soaps from Apongbon have made me besotted with palm olive products till date!

Daddy was accomodating and so generous,he was always there for all and sundry.

He was handsome and dapper in all he wore. He spoke impeccable English with a wonderful accent.

Daddy, though you're no more,I will never forget you.

Adieu sir!

My Father-in-Law

My tribute to you is one of great admiration, appreciation and many thanks for the blessing of being a father to my wife (Olaide), who is your first born, & a second father to me.

My first impression from contact with you in the 1992, was that of a gentle, generous & intelligent man who was hard working & loved his family dearly. My intermittent contact with you over the years reinforced that impression, and I learnt so much more about you from my wife and from her consistent love for and from you.

You had a positive impact in her life and you helped her to lay a precious foundation in life, which is evident in her robust and balanced views and her many & diverse interests in sports, reading, education, literature, generosity, hard work, cooking & the value of community. Your gift to me as a young man, was the blessing of a well grounded & intelligent daughter & her amazing siblings ! You welcomed me into the Ogunbiyi family with an open arm & heart. For this, I would be eternally grateful ! Ese Sir !

We will miss you as you continue to Rest In Peace. Adieu !

Your Son-in-Law

To my dearest and lovely Daddy, you're my brother but you're like a father to me.I know that no matter what
You will always be with me.
When life separates us
I’ll know it is only your soul
Saying goodbye to your body
But your spirit will be with me always.
When I see a bird chirping on a nearby branch
I will know it is you singing to me.
When a butterfly brushes gently by me so care freely
I will know it is you assuring me you are free from pain.
When the gentle fragrance of a flower catches my attention
I will know it is you reminding me
To appreciate the simple things in life.
When the sun shining through my window awakens me
I will feel the warmth of your love.
When I hear the rain pitter patter against my window sill
I will hear your words of wisdom
And will remember what you taught me so well’
That without rain trees cannot grow
Without rain flowers cannot bloom
Without life’s challenges I cannot grow strong.
When I look out to the sea
I will think of your endless love for your family.
When I think of mountains, their majesty and magnificence
I will think of your courage for your family,
No matter where I am
Your spirit will be beside me
For I know that no matter what
You will always be with me. Rest In Perfect Peace Pa Olufemi Ogunbiyi.

My tribute to Dad.

I am not really sure where to start with my tribute but I will try and remember all the many things I learnt and gained from you.

Your love for reading: You loved to read! I know without a shadow of a doubt that my love of reading came from you. I remember all our living rooms having book shelves that held all your many books both works of fiction and numerous autobiographies. I remember you buying me comics from a very early age to stimulate me to read ( at least 5-10) on a weekly basis. This made me into an avid reader something for which I am so grateful today.

Your generous spirit was unparalleled! You opened yourself and your pocket/resources to all. Family, friends, strangers! Everyone who knew you could attest to that, if nothing else! You gave without restraint or concern for yourself. You went above and beyond to make sure that as long as you had the means, we never lacked.

Your charm and friendliness: you could charm the socks off anyone! You easily made friends. You were so generous and loving towards everyone.

Your passion for education: unparalleled! You encouraged me to be whatever I wanted to be! I knew from a young age I wanted to be a doctor. When you discovered I was interested in sciences you were so excited. You had loved the sciences but could not afford to pay for the courses and labs as a young student as your father died so young. You had to settle for less expensive art courses at the time. You were super clever. I remember many times, you teaching me simultaneous equations in mathematics , balancing equations in chemistry and even Shakespeare  in English literature. You were an all rounder. You did not hesitate to pay for any extra tutoring or books that I required as long as you could afford it. I always had all my required textbooks.

You were an avid sports fan! My love of sports stems from you. I have many memories of watching countless football matches with you particularly the World Cup. I will never forget our excitement together for Maradona when his team won the World Cup in 1986. I love all sports because I grew up watching everything with you: football, boxing, tennis. You were a passionate supporter of stationary stores football club.

You loved watching movies and we grew up watching many movies including the latest videos etc. I remember our first movies : The sound of music, Chitty chitty bang bang, Bruce Lee (enter the dragon, fist of fury) and numerous other movies over many years.

You also loved music, all kinds of music especially Yusuf Olatunji sakara music and Haruna Ishola. You would buy our favorite tapes: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and would even buy the gospel artists (Sandi Patty, Amy Grant) when my preferences shifted that way.

You loved to cook whenever you could or found time to do so: you taught me to make efo elegusi, gbegiri, Amala, jogi, and so many other foods. You even taught us to make ogi at home as you were not keen on the ones sold in the market. You loved all foods generally and there were many times you would treat us to Chinese food, Terris burger, Leventis suya and many others to name a few.

You were hard working: you were never afraid of hard work. Always willing to fly or drive anywhere to close a deal.

You loved fashion: you loved to dress well, look good, monogrammed shirts, Italian leather shoes, safari suits, sports jackets etc. I learnt a lot of fashion from watching and observing you!

You loved languages! You were fluent in French and could speak some Italian!

I learned many lessons from you, some of which you unwittingly taught. Life is a journey and takes us down many paths. By no means were you a saint, but despite many flaws, you did your best to remain generous in spirit. You were unembittered by life, regardless of the situation. You always believed tomorrow would be better, bringing new and better opportunities.
I love you so much and will miss you. GOD speed and journey well.

Dear Uncle as you sit in the arms of the Lord, your family, friends and colleagues mourn your death. It’s all right as each of us have the Lord beside us as we say our farewells. Your body might be gone from this world but your spirit will live on in my heart forever. Today I will mourn you in my own way as I pay a tribute to you.

I will cherish every single moment I and my sibling spent with you. Your selflessness and love for us can’t be quantified. I guess this is our final goodbye since i never got the chance to do so. Rest in peace Uncle, I will definitely miss you

How little or how much can I say about dad. With the little time we spent together I see a man in him who never say never. He was a fighter and he taught me what faith truly is. Daddy will never tell you he doesn't have or won't, he'll rather have you put your hopes in God and believe all will be well at all time even when they are not. He was a very loving soul. Down to earth and a Lover of Kids. I Loved and will forever Love you dad. And I still stand in and by the method of Faith I learnt from you. You are forever in my heart dad. Sun re o.
