The Obituary

Ora Lee Porterfield Maye was born on November 29, 1930 in Lowndes County, Alabama. She was the fifth child born to parents Oscar and Fannie Lou Porterfield and Stepmother Emma D. Porterfield. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was educated in the Titusville community, attending Washington Elementary School, Samuel Ullman High School and A.H. Parker High School. In 1950, she met and married Manchester Maye, to this union, three beautiful children were born. Ora’s middle child, Linda Ann Maye Powell preceded her in death. Her two brothers, Artis and David Porterfield and her eldest sister Daisy Mae Porterfield Rodgers and stepsister Annie Bell also preceded her in death.

Professionally, Ora worked at South Highland Hospital and later as an Aide at Hill Haven Retirement Facility, until she retired in 1991. Ora was a prissy lady, always meticulously dressed. She was touted for being as immaculate leaving work as she was when she arrived. She enjoyed life and her family and friends will always remember her as “Silver Fox”.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of love, two devoted children, Jennifer Maye Carter (Ted, deceased) and Michael Carl (Tawanda). A sister, Mrs. Inell Porterfield Brown (Peter, deceased), grandchildren, Demetrius Carter, Demaris Carter Jones (Brandon, deceased), , Thaddeus Carter, Dasha Maye, Ethan Maye, and Brandon Powell, five great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, five sisters-in-law,three brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
