It's been 7 years but it still feels like you are with us. Early on, there were times I didn't think I could make it without you but then we all realized we would never be without you. Deina Sime

I am painfully realizing that, as the years pass, there will just be more and more events I wish you could be here for (in body and not just spirit), Daddy.

Arike biokuromari. Dein a sime.

Forever grateful for you,

IN MEMORIAM

Oriks it seemed like yesterday but no it is one year today when cold hands of death snatched you away from us. Still in denial, some Sundays still expected your early morning Sunday calls.  Xmax came & gone, New Year came & gone, still no that familiar calls, this was the talk from all of who had the scheduled routine phone calls from you. Yes you were gone. I am now trying to understand that.  Oriks it is true that you have left us to the Heavenly father.   You left your loved ones w/ any warning, just a phone call on 01/07/12 that Oriks was sick & another phone call on 01/08/12 that Oriks was died, that hurts b/c we love you, but it happened b/c God loved you most.  No day has past w/ out your memory. We express our loss at any opportunity we have to talk about you. Oriks the vacuum you created will never be filled.   With your one year anniversary today, our heads are bow’d with woes, our bitter tears o’er flow we   Mourn the lost dear Oriks.   Oriks Dein na sime. You will always be remembered. Adieu.   Ebi.

Rest in Peace

Bro: Remember and Smile, I do

January 25, 2012

August 1980 – Mayne, Sr and I visited you in Connecticut from New York, NY.  You gave us ride back.  I still remember your computer printouts in the back of your car.  At Daere’s in Los Angeles, CA – a few Kalabari food chow down sessions. KNA convention at Los Angeles, CA - my visit with you, Bro Umbo, Bro Abio, Sisi Ineba, and others at lunch time.  July 2010 – my stand-in for you at Sisi Flafla’s Service of Songs, Upper Room International Christian Fellowship, Inglewood CA.  KCDA, Southern California - your consultations with Kalabari Community Development Association leaders.

Several other visits with the last being our November 28, 2011 phone conversation.  Now I know you did not want me worrying when I called to check on you and you said you were ill but okay then.  You told me you will be visiting Nigeria.  I prayed for God’s traveling mercies upon you.  You encouraged me to consider contributing resources to BCOM.  I promised I would.  I mentioned I was back in school.  You suggested I consider in addition some professional certifications.  I was looking forward to seeing you at my graduation ceremony.

Well, you are a blessing to many lives in and beyond your kalabari root.  As much as I wish you stayed longer, I am happy for you.  Congratulations! You did contribute more than your fair share to mankind.  May your family and friends find consolation in the faith that you are now in a better place.  Nonetheless, I miss you.  May your soul rest in peace.

Love, your Junior Bro,

Winston Amachree.

While my father was an accomplished Professional Engineer, a scholar, a published author, an adventurer, and a public official in both Nigeria and the US, he was most importantly a loving father who was immensely proud of his children's accomplishments. I am proud to have his tiny ears, his abnormally long fingers, his love of useless facts, his passion for friendship, and his humor (at least I think I have his humor...).

Although he is no longer here, I am comforted to know I have 30 years of memories - the memory of him teaching me to drive his 1981 white Subaru when I was 8 and how he would randomly show-up at my dorms in DC from Massachusetts unannounced; how watching wrestling was a weekly tradition and how Boma asked him to stop being her soccer coach because all he did was show off his soccer skills rather than actually help teach the team how to play soccer; how he once jumped into a swimming pool fully clothed to save Junior from drowning after Nonye threw him in; how asking him a simple math question would lead to an explanation of statistical theory and how he was never to busy to scream at a teacher who even looked at his children in an odd way; how he is the only man who I ever knew to wear Aramis cologne and how he appointed me his Campaign Manager when he was running for our town's DPW Commisioner (he won by the way!).  Most importantly, I will never forget his voice calling me by my nicknames and will probably save his final voicemail to me so I can hear his voice again.

I love you Daddy,

Obele

A MAN OF HONOR AND INTEGRITY

January 10, 2012

This is a great loss! I knew Dr. Brown-West some years ago.  Precisely, I met him at Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries Boston Branch where he was one of the front runners and a member of the church building committee.  On few occasions, I had interpesonal relationship with him especially when the church building was going through the phase of reconstruction and remodelling.  He played a very significant role and his views and suggestions were that of a progressive thinker and visioner.  We had useful discussions which without doubt showed that he was a man who would never compromise to do evil and would say the truth whosoever ox is gored.

I saw him just last year July or August when he came visiting and he was still his good, vibrant and ever inspiring man I knew him to be.  Let us just accept that there is practically nothing we can do a humans to change the will of God for his life.  I believe that God knows why he choose to take him now.  May his gentle soul rest in the bossom of Abraham.  Amen

My heartfelt condolence goes to his entire family.  May the Comforter, Jesus Christ grant you all the fortitude to bear this great loss.  Amen

Good Bye, Dr Brown.
