This news has certainly hurt my heart. Big Oscar has served as a mentor to me of how a real man stands with dignity at all times. Growing up around the Crawley family and getting to know him has always been a blessing. I regret that I was out of country and not able to attend his home going service, but he will always be missed be myself and countless others he influenced throughout his life. My prayers are always with his family.

All of in the community mourn the loss of our mayor and friend, Oscar. I worked with Oscar on many, many community projects and he always provided the leadership and encouragement needed for the situation. I particularly remember his dedication to Lanier Memorial Hospital and his faithful board service. He was on the board when we decided to merge into EAMC. He supported and encouraged me (as President) every step of the way. Oscar also was an enthusiastic supporter of the Chattahoochee Fuller Center's efforts to bring more affordable housing to Lanett and other Valley communities. The City's help with our efforts was critical to our success. Thanks Oscar....for the memories and hard work that made our community a better place.

"One of the saddest moments is when you hear of the loss of a friend." Oscar Crawley, was my friend and confidant. When we meet someone who shares our joys Who knows when we are up or down Who shows they care in so many ways And never lets us down That is who we can call our friend - I will truly miss you Oscar!

Oscar will be missed by all who knew him. I had the privilege of working for Oscar at WPP Corporate Office as HR Administrator for several years. He was the best and always wanted his employees to excel in their jobs and he made that easy by willingly sharing his knowledge. Rest in peace, Oscar. Look forward to seeing you again one day. God bless Juliette and the family.

On behalf of the New Hope Foundation, Inc. Board members we extend our sincere condolence to the family. As a Board member, Mayor Crawley's contributions were invaluable. He provided leadership, inspiration and experience that helped steer our charitable organization in the right direction. The Foundation which he so cherished is dedicated to the restoration of the historic New Hope Rosenwald School that his mother attended. His physical presence may be gone but his spiritual presence will remain alive and provide the motivation to make his dream a reality.

May the Family be comforted by Faith that the Lord has brought Oscar to a beautiful place of everlasting light and love.

Psalms 132:4. This is my rest forever. Living eternity with our Lord. Here will I dwell. In the house of the Lord forever as the Lord promise. For I have desired it. Now don't worry about me. I have had a good life while I was strong. Remember how I truly was blessed. Until the day comes when we will meet again. This journey I am taking alone. We all must take. So remember Honorable Crawley with love in our hearts for those he touched cause his love will never be forgotten. He was loved so much by many for the great things he done on earth. His journey has just begun doing the best things for the Lord. Being a angel watching over us. The best job of all. God continue to bless and watch over his  family is my family prayer. Just Up 9th Street

October 16, 2015

Having just learned last night of Oscar's homegoing, I express deepest condolences to Juliette and family.  Know you're in our thoughts and prayers.

I wish to share from my first encounters as a young lad with Oscar ( then an accomplished young adult and rising star) and family on 9th Street in Lanett where my  grandparents and his parents were neighbors and dear friends.  Oscar was a very confident and positive role model in manner, speech, dress, and yes that sporty yellow 1966 Pontiac GTO he drove that always had us boys in awe.  I fast forward to my senior year at Lanett High where as a Panther I played one of my best football games against Opelika as I scored a late touchdown that sealed a win.  Did not know he was at the game until days later he stopped me and complimented on my effort.   I reflect further on the several times in more recent years where we would run into each other at the Magic City Classic in Birmingham as arch rivals, he in ASU's black and gold and me in AAMU's maroon and white.  Regardless who won this most balanced of series, we would warmly embrace each other out of a deeper connection that first bonded on 9th Street.

Rest in Peace Your Honor, Mayor/Dr Crawley!  God bless.

Sincerely,

Douglas Bonner, Colonel (Retired), U S Army; AAMU '79; LHS '75
