This memorial website was created in memory of Big O, Otis Harris, born on June 17, 1948 and passed away on September 2, 2018, at the age of 70. He will be forever in our hearts.

Otis was born to parents Willie Sr, and Ola Harris on June 18, 1948 in New Orleans, LA. He grew up as the third child of four.

Otis enlisted in the United States Army where he was a communications specialist. He then continued his passion for communications and worked at Pacific Bell until his retirement in 1987.

Otis loved Ham and CB radios. He was certified and licensed. He was the President and lifelong member of the Golden Gate CB club out of Oakland, California in the 1970’s and 1980’s until the club disbanded.

Otis is survived by his daughter, Deborah Jackson in Colorado; his sister, Audrey Harris and niece, Charlene Harris; California. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Willie and Plas Harris and ex-wife, Rose.

The family is grateful for the condolences but declines flowers. Donations can be made in honor of Otis Harris (KG6TDR) to Glenn Amateur Radio Society .

Nothing made him smile brighter than having a CB radio in his hand.

Otis I miss your check ins to the GARS Monday night net and your radio checks from time to time. You were an inspiration to me when we started the work in setting up the Glenn Amateur Radio Society. You and your insight were very helpful in the early days of the club. Your questions kept us on even keel and your knowledge helped emensly, solving some of the biggest and toughest issues. You will be forever in my thoughts. I plan on hearing you come back when I call CQ on far side...

Shared by Otis' Friend - Wade Elliot

October 5, 2018

I first met him (Otis) at church in Orland, years before he came to live at Tehama Commons.  He was accompanied by a friend who helped him navigate the stairs, aisles, and parishioners Sunday after Sunday.  His cane betrayed his blindness but not once do I recall him expressing anything one could call bitterness. He was a gentle soul who accepted with grace the challenges blindness posed for him. He spoke with me many times of his passion for reaching out to his community and the broader world using his considerable HAM radio skills. His voice is no doubt already being missed by friends made and kept over the years near and far.
