Ozelle H. Lee, 94 year old resident of West Point, Georgia, died Thursday, December 29, 2011 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Lee parents were Mr. and Mrs. Z. V. Hudson. She was born, reared, and educated in Roanoke, Alabama, coming to West Point in 1943. Mrs. Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Point, where she was very active and a choir member for 33 years. She was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class since 1943. She was also a member of the West Point Women’s Club. Mrs. Lee was the owner of the Eversmart Beauty and Dress Shop. She later joined her husband Walter Lee in Dixie Cleaners. In her later years she was in the rental business, in which she enjoyed meeting new people and friends. Mrs. Lee continued to receive gifts, calls, and visits from people who rented from her in the early 1970’s. She loved her neighbors, and they fondly named her the “Mayor of Roper Avenue.”

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband Walter Lee; her sisters Mary Neal Lundell and Nell Kitchens and her brothers Bradley Hudson, Weber Hudson, and Durell Hudson. She is survived by nieces and nephews: Bruce Adams of Anniston, Alabama, Marsha Anders of Birmingham, Alabama, and Van Hudson of Columbia, Tennessee; her sister-in-law Margaret Hudson of Montgomery, Alabama; step grandchildren: Cassandra Hicks of West Point, Georgia, Bubba Hoats of Atlanta, Georgia, Kenneth Hoats of West Point, Georgia and Hunter Hoats of Seattle, Washington; and step great grandchildren: Brandon Hoats, Stephanie Gragg, Corbin Hoats, Curry Hoats, and Lillian Hoats.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ozelle H. Lee will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM EST from the graveside in Marseilles Cemetery. Dr. Tom Tucker will officiate.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of West Point, Georgia.

Condolences to the family of Miss Ozelle. My sister, the late Barbara Blackstock, was her neighbor for so many wonderful years. Everyone loved her and she will be missed. God Bless.
