Biography

 

Late chief Eliab Olufemi Olubadero Onasoga was born on the 1st of October 1927 to Mr. Olubadero Onasoga and Mrs. Marian Olufaiyeji Onasoga in Iseyin Ijebu in Ogun State.

His father, a trained english tailor who specialized in sewing cassocks and surplice for choristers, died five days before young Eliab’s first birthday in September 1928. Young Eliab Olufemi was taken care of by his mother at an infant age.

After obtaining standard six certificate from Emmanuel Primary School in Isoyin his hometown.

Young Eliab immigrated to Lagos and lived with his late maternal Uncle Papa EA. Onanuga  who lived at Carrena Street in Lagos Island.

His Uncle Papa Onanuga influenced him to learn tailoring. After the completion of his tailoring course

His uncle Mr. EA Onanuga and his much more older brother, the late Papa Oluwole Adeeko, jointly contributed money to buy him cord multipurpose singer sewing machine to start his tailoring business.

Papa being a highly intelligent and ambitious young man didn’t want to practice tailoring a profession he spent almost four years of his young productive life to learn from financial again. His decision made his Uncle Onanuga to report him to his older brother Late Oluwole Adeeko. Instead of sanctioning him Pa late Adeeko gave him (Badero) a terse approval “Let him act according to the dictates of his mind.” Late Pa Adeeko told Papa Onanuga.

 

Unknown to his Uncle, young Eliab had already enrolled with Lucas typing Institute to learn typing and shorthand at Igbosere road in Lagos and at the same time secured a job to work for Mr. Phillips of Hawley Street as Estate management assistant otherwise known in local parlance as a caretaker.

Young Eliab Olufemi Badero had to move out of his uncle’s house and started to live with his full biological sister the late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Onatoye at 63 Igbosere road Lagos Island.

Within fifteen months young Olufemi passed stages 1-2 typing and shorthand in RSA examination, a remarkable feat among his peers then..

As a caretaker working for Mr. Phillips young Olufemi Badero was honest, diligent, bright and extraordinary neat in appearance, attributes that made him well known to his community all and sundry.

During the course of his official duty young Olufemi Badero met one Mr. Odude of Simpson Street who helped to secure a job with SCOA motors as typist and a stenographer. He quickly rose through the ranks. While working at a SCOA motors

Papa Olufemi Badero met with the late Mr. Okuwobi a native of Ilese Ijebu, and a member of St. Peter's Church Ajele Lagos Island Lagos who later became his mentor and also advanced his career growth.

Papa was among thirty young men chosen from some blue chip companies for a course in business administration at University of Ife, Ibadan campus under late Professor Sam Aluko.

Papa Olufemi Badero came first in all his subjects. This outstanding performance earned him promotion on resumption back to SCOA office in Lagos.

 

Papa Eliab Olufemi Badero also obtained advanced diploma course in management from the university of Ife.

Papa was one of the few staff who benefited tremendously from in-service training. He was sent to France and Belgium on so many occasions for in-service management trainee.

The high academic excellence attained by Papa’s children in their chosen fields came from this enigmatic man of history among his children you will find a world renowned highly cerebral invasive and interventional cardiologist, nephrologists and a cardiologist also two biochemists, an I.T. expert, a linguistic (all in USA) and two sound educationists. He gave his children sound and qualitative education and to God be the glory his returns on investments on his children (ROI) could be described as a beauty to behold.

Papa while at SCOA motors was instrumental in opening four branches namely Ibadan, Jos, Kaduna and Ondo. Papa in his usual characteristics of showing appreciation for any kind gesture will say “I didn’t make SCOA, but SCOA made me. The company saw a lot of potentials in me and through the grace of God, a lot of hard work brought out the best in me.”

Papa was very grateful to SCOA motors for assisting him to actualize his dreams on his children and to God be the glory that all the children came out successfully of which he will proudly say praise God.

Papa said he felt fulfilled in life.. Papa Olufemi Badero retired as senior administration manager

with SCOA motors..

 

Marital Life

 

In 1952, Papa got married to the love of his life, Mrs. Patricia Aduke Badero nee Elufiseu who bore him three brilliant and prophetic children... but she unfortunately predeceased him.

He also married Mrs. Stella Taiwo Badero nee Eniafe who bore him nine good exemplary, amusing, sound and humble children with high pedigree.

 

                                   Church Activities

 

Papa as a Youngman was a member of choir both in Emmanuel Anglican Church Isonyin and Later St. Peters Church Ajele in Lagos. He remained a member of the choir in St. Peter's church for so many years until he was posted out of Lagos on transfer for higher responsibility. Papa Badero was instrumental in bringing late Papa L.A.G. Adefuye to St Peter's.Late Papa. Adefuye was the longest serving member of St. Peters church choir became a laity of St. Peters church Ajele, Lagos.

Papa was a prominent and active member of YMCA and Progressive army of Christ, the two leading societies in the church. He remained a committed and financial member. At home church in Ijebu he was the president of Egbe Aya Bishop.

Papa Eliab Olufemi Badero was a committed Anglican who would not joke with his financial obligation to the church.

Papa was a prayer warrior who believed in efficacy of prayers.

In 1997 Papa Eliab Olufemi Badero lost one of his sons a final year student of the then Ogun-State University.

Tributes

Tributes came from friends, family and well- wishers on the life and times of Pa Badero.

Dr. Bola Omotosho also led a delegate from the U.S.  to pay their last respects to Pa Eliab Olufemi Badero.

 

According to one of his children Olufela Badero he said, “ My father was my best friend. gentle, kind and generous. I will always remember the sacrifice he made to keep us happy, the unconditional love and education he gave to us. His advice and his word of encouragement… My father was there for my entire sibling and me.  I thank him for being my father.”

 

Papa taught us the efficacy of prayer. When faced with daunting challenges and seemingly insurmountable obstacles at the different times in life, I recall with gratitude your admonition and advise to me “in time of trouble, trial, and tribulations, get on your knees, read your bible, pray and call on Him for help and direction” One of his children Dr. Oluyemi Badero said.

 

 

                                BURIAL CEREMONY

 

A series of activities put together to bid a final farewell to late Papa Eliab Olufemi Badero began with a special service of songs at St. Peter's church Ajele Lagos Island, Lagos. Organized by church trustees and members to honor him for his contribution and support for the work of God.

 

As expected church members trooped into St. Peters Church Ajele to pay their last respect to the man of God who had made immense contribution financially, spiritually to the church.

 

The Christian wake keeping for Pa Badero was held at his house in Asake Elegba Close Dopemu Agege Lagos.  Again friends, family members, admirers and neighbors rallied a huge support for him. Those who attended the wake keeping including Engineer. Bamgbose Martins Former Permanent secretary Ministry Of Works and Infrastructure Dr. Bola Omotosho Chairman Community Board 5 Bronx, New York who led some delegate from United States. The Officiating Minister concluded that Pa Badero had lived a worthy life to emulate, a man of God, honest, hard work and lover of education. He appealed to his children to continue to guard their father ‘s good name jealously.

Papa Olufemi Eliab Badero was laid in state at his ancestral home and place of birth at Eyindi Street, Ijebu Isonyi Ogun State where members of his family, friends and well-wishers came to pay their last respect.

The funeral service for Pa Badero took place at Emmanuel Church in Isonyin,Ogun-State.

The thanksgiving session brought the church services to an end.

 

 

The remains of Pa Badero were interred at the church cemetery.

 At the graveside, family members and friends sang hymns and songs with heavy hearts.

 

A grand reception was held at Isoyin Grammar School Isoyin to round off Pa Eliab Olufemi Badero

 

Papa who was committed to mother earth after 88 years on this planet earth,

Was a good, neat, humorous, and generous leader in all standard and above all, a lover of every good thing in all ramifications?

 Despite the death of his father when he was less than a year old, he didn’t allow the incident to dampen his spirit for achieving greatness. Papa came to this planet earth and through dint of hard work Spartan, self-discipline and focus he came saw and conquered.
