Pansy Joy Allem, 97, March 18, 1917 – February 23, 2015. Born to Solomon & Ramza Hamaty in Jamaica, West Indies. Pansy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, woman and friend. All those who knew Pansy will miss her laughter, kindness, resilient strength and loving intentions.
Pansy came to the United States from Jamaica to attend college. While in the states, she met and later married Amin Allem on January 20, 1946. After several years in Allentown, Pennsylvania, they made their home in Miami, Florida. She was very active as a volunteer at her childrens’ school and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Following her husband’s death, Pansy relocated to Palm Beach Gardens where she became an active member of the Palm Beach Gardens Women’s Club. She had a passion of giving her time and talents to those around her; she was a true servant leader. In 2013, Pansy moved to Tallahassee where she lived out her days surrounded by her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Some of her favorite times were spent at the water’s edge, feet in the sand and telling her family stories of her life. Laughing with her was a wonderful treasure.
Pansy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Amin Allem; brothers, Lynval, Evelyn, Edward and Emile Hamaty. She is survived by her children, Kay Stephenson (Mike), A.G. Allem, Roy Allem (Susan); sisters, Cynthia Skaff, Una Bardowell; grandchildren, Christina Lake (William), Michael Stephenson (Laura), Stephani Miller, Alyssa Allem; great grandchildren, Cooper Lake, Ava Lake, McKenzie Miller, Ella Lake, Scarlett Stephenson, Hudson Miller, Sloan Stephenson and Savannah Stephenson.
A celebration of Pansy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14th, at 11:30 am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
