The news of brother Anenga( as I call him) came to me as a severe shock when my eyes flashed through incoming messages on the screen of my phone from my University of Port Harcourt alums. I proceeded to open my mail while I hoped that what flashed through my eyes was not true as my heart beats very fast. But alas on reading the posting, it was true indeed that our beloved brother Anenga has gone to his maker. It is a painful loss but God’s name be praised for the life led by our brother.
I met brother Anenga at the University of Port Harcourt in 1977 where we were the pioneer students of the university. Once again after graduation , we were coincidentally posted to Maiduguri, Borno state. Brother Anenga was a welcome presence in each of our lives on campus. He was very caring, a good counselor to anyone he encountered, nonjudgmental of others, a friend to all.
His untiring efforts in the work of the Lord is unmatched to the end.
May God give the family and friends he left behind the grace to bear the loss. May God grant our brother Anenga a peaceful rest until the resurrection morning. Amen!

Dear Baba Anenga, the news of your demise came to us as a shock. However, we are consoled with the fact that you lived a good life and rests in the hope of the first resurrection.
Indeed words have failed me, but I cannot miss the fact that you were a second father to some of us. The first time my husband saw me was at your Ministerial Ordination at Jengre. Years later you joined us in holy matrimony, and since theñ you have become our father, a mentor, and our counsellor. Your sense of generosity is second to none, the list is endless....
We will miss your long weekly calls....

Baba, Pastor Apeseza Num Anenga, sleeps. The icon of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Benue State has fallen. A man who gave his all to a cause he believed in. He was a motivator, encourager, mentor, counselor, cheerleader, father, grandparent, and gentleman per excellence.
Undoubtedly, he was giving/generosity personified. Were it possible, baba could pluck his eyes and cut off his hands to give to others. Moreover, his other name was " FAITHFUL".
Albeit baba Apeseza Num Anenga is asleep, his virtues and legacies may continue to challenge some of us that interacted closely with him. Personally, it feels I have lost my home. Notwithstanding, Psalms 116:15 comforts. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

My consolation is that you were ever ready for your last breath, and I'm certain, you slept in the lord and we shall see on that resurrection morning.

Pastor Anenga's friendship with my Father, Elder John Buba was an exceptional relationship that; he once told me that we are integral members of his family, and that it was God that has blessed him with us as family members.

Baba Anenga is a Grandfather to me right from my childhood in Makurdi, we spoke to few Days ago that am going to bring my son to see him, only to get the news of his demise. Little did I know that will be our last conversation, i am pained but God knows the best. Baba Continue to rest in God's hands. Love you Baba

Pastor, words fail me, even as I write this. For a while, I could not accept the reality of your demise until it dawned on me. You were a good man, fearless and committed to your course. I remember with nostalgia your pieces of advice during my wedding counseling. I also remember the book you gave my wife and I on sustaining a successful marriage. I can go on and on but you are already asleep; you will not hear me! I wish you told me death was knocking, I would have filed a suit against it, seeking an injunction to restrain it from taking you now until you were 100 years. You are already gone and It pains me that I did not see you before the Lord called you home. Sleep on, Pastor Anenga, until we meet again on the resurrection morning. Good night, Sir.

The biggest heart I have encountered in ministry. Your love for your children (biological or spiritually adopted) is unmatched. In the height of the schisms in church, yours was a welcoming bridge. We would always end with smiles in the midst of challenging tensions. You connected with all generations. You chose kindness over being correct. You endured persecution for being a Man of God. I will miss you dearly. We are comforted that we will see you at Jesus feet….where our smiles will be permanent. This world definitely has a hole because of your departure….but God is strengthening us. Good bye my father.

Growing up in Church was fun and interesting with the Anenga’s. Up until I came across this family, A cappella was largely unknown to me and most of my peers. In a Church known to be very conservative, this new vocal unaccompanied by musical instruments was met with stiff resistance. But the Anenga’s were bold and seeing Lydia feature in the male dominated group got us very curious and interested. I paid particular attention to Pastor Anenga and his wife and noticed he silently approved. This would open my world not only to this type of music but also presenting and directing quartets and groups! Talk about praising God in a very inspiring and enjoyable way!

It wasn’t only music though - we would converge again in chaplaincy ministry and go to do exploits for God’s Kingdom on secular campuses not only in Benue State but all across the Northeast corridor! What kept the flame burning was the consciousness of a Pastor and Father who was not only contemporary but inspiring!

As gentle and loving as he was, Pastor Anenga as we fondly called him, would teach me a very important lesson that will remain with me forever! He wasn’t only my Church Pastor - he was my father! He had been made the nominating committee chairman for that year. My carnal nature coveted a position but that was not what the committee presented to me. For me, it was that position or none. I had become so important in my self perception completely unaware I was wallowing in pride. I waited for the committee to return but they never did. Pastor Anenga had made it clear if anyone refused to honor the committee’s invitation to serve, they should be left alone. It was a very small church but Pastor Anenga despised politics in the Church and believed only the willing should lead God’s people. It was the worst 12 months of my life in the church as I had to warm the bench doing nothing! But like Moses had to relearn humility and not run ahead of God for 40 years in Midian, I learned my lessons in pains. I would be forever grateful to Pastor Anenga for teaching me this important lesson. Today, I serve wherever He needs me not where I want to, many thanks to Pastor Anenga.

Like a Father, He continued to nuture and inspire me. And even when it appeared distance had separated us, he sought out after me. He was the only Anenga that was on my Whatsapp list! It never mattered where I was, he followed me everywhere. He was thrilled when I embarked on a mission trip to Kenya. Reading what he sent me on arrival still gives me goosebumps: “ Hi, Mike. it appears you have been in East Africa for some days now. What has actually taken you there and how long will you continue to be there? God bless and be with you there iJn. Amen.” When I told him what took me there, he followed up with this response: “ Thanks for the update. God bless your mission and protect the young Masai girls iJn. Amen.” His life was that of mission! I will miss him! I am very emotional but surprisingly tears aren’t flowing as I write this. That’s because I know Pastor Anenga is only resting. We shall meet on the resurrection morning by God’s special grace! Amen.

I did not know you, but I have known your son, our NMA chairman, for a while. I want to believe that by genes or by training, you raised a great son and that greatness resided in you too. I bid you good bye fully believing that you impacted your world and will not be forgotten. Rest in God's bossom.

   Baba (Rtd. Pst) A.N. Anenga Jp. Lived a Life of Humility and discipleship. A gentle God's General with the Belt of Truth and a sandal of peace. His quick smiles was a quenching storm to All who ran to him with their burning worries.
   Baba, you placed values on godliness and modesty. Never tired on God's Business. It's only death that could stop you but, in a little while Death shall be defeated.
1Cor. 15:55-58. O death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory......., But thanks be to God which gives us Victory through our Lord Jesus .
   We have this hope that burns within our heart. Hope in the coming of the Lord. Soon the heavens will open wide, the trumpet of the Lord shall sound to wake the righteous in their sleep. To sleep No More.
