Joel Adam Burton was born in Dayton, Ohio September 20, 1979, and graduated from Fairborn High School in 1999. He was the second youngest of four children. He wrestled and played football in Junior and High School.
Joel had a heart for all people and was extraordinarily selfless putting others always before himself. He loved God with his whole heart and expended every extra dollar he had reaching out to people whom mostly would go ignored or forgotten. He was constantly stretching himself financially because he simply couldn’t turn down helping hurting people, the homeless, the hungry, the addicted, prostitutes, drug dealers, and gangs. He saw something in them that was often hard for others to even see in themselves; their value to Jesus. He loved everyone and didn’t know a stranger, all are children of God. Everywhere he went, he paused and prayed for people who were struggling and spoke encouraging words to them. When he realized that some people would never set foot in a church, he took the church to them. His ministry was blessed with a giant tent and people came to faith who would never, ever step foot in a church. If there was ever a man who left a mark of love on the city of Dayton, it was Joel Burton.
While Joel, first and foremost, loved Jesus, he also loved Bigfoot. He knew Big Foot was out there somewhere, and everywhere he went he was on the lookout. He was dead set on finding him. With a detailed map of sightings in hand, he regularly wanted to visit new forests where he might catch a look. It was only a matter of time before he finally found that sneaky fella.
When Joel wasn’t serving everyone in town or looking for Bigfoot, he had a love of art and was extremely gifted in painting and drawing. He had won many awards for his art projects. He went to school for a brief period for graphic arts, but life took him in another direction.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shawnda Burton; Daughters Trinity Burton of Dayton Ohio, Jenna Vance of Dayton Ohio; Sons Chay Parker of Dayton Ohio, and Bailey Burton of Fairborn Ohio; Mother Patricia Burton of Dayton, and Father Randal Burton of KY; Grandmothers Peggy Brown of Englewood, and Hattie Burton of Miamisburg; Brothers Jake and (Jessie) Burton of Clayton, Josh and (Kristin) of Tipp City; Sister Jennifer (Jeremy) Brunn of Fairborn; Nephews Caleb (Jamison) Burton of Fairchild Air Force Base, Nicholas (Taylor) Burton of Vandalia, Keyton, Cohen, and Cahle Carruthers of Tipp City, Garrett Burton, Oliver Brunn(Fairborn) nieces Taylor Burns & Toni Burton(Clayton), Alexis Brunn (Fairborn), Taytem Burton & Kyler Carruthers (Tipp City) and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
