Obituary

Patchular “Patty” Teresa Ann Hardy was born on January 25, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama., to the late Herbert Hoover Hardy, Sr. and late Orean Canada Hardy. She confessed Christ and learned to pray and love God’s Word at an early age. She has been a member of Faith Chapel since early 1990’s. Patchular loved God’s Word and loved sharing it with others as well.

She departed this life late Saturday night, December 22, 2018, having only celebrated the life of her beloved oldest niece, Orean Ragland Williams, earlier that afternoon.

Patchular graduated in the class of 1976 from West End High School. After receiving an associate RN degree Lawson State, she worked for 25+ years in behavioral health and psychiatry, dialysis, home health and hospice in the Birmingham area and a travel nurse in California and Texas. At the time of her death, she was employed by Grandview Medical Center’.

Patchular never met a stranger – with a genuinely warm, beautiful dimpled smile, she easily engaged anyone she met with a kindness that is rare these days. Like her mother, she loved to cook, in particular for family gatherings, where she thoroughly enjoyed story-telling, karaoke, and hanging out with her siblings, and could usually be found in a corner with a new visitor or two – deeply engaged in conversation; that was Patty.

Patchular is survived by her children, Michael Antjuan Bennett Hardy, Dallas, TX, and Patchular Kiarra Hardy, Birmingham, AL; siblings, Charles (Diane) Rutledge, and Herbert Hoover Hardy, Jr, and LeVaughn (Sensoray) Hardy, Sr, of Birmingham, AL, Dr. Vanessa Ragland, Haleyville, AL, and Frances Hardy, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; and, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by and is now reunited with her parents, sister, Lois Evelyn Ragland, and brother, Harvey Lawrence Ragland.

Acknowledgments

The family of Patchular Teresa Ann Hardy would like to take this opportunity to extend sincere appreciation to everyone for the many kind expressions of sympathy. We know that you are just as shocked about our loss as we are and love and will miss Patty as much as we will, so let us pray for one another.

God is still in control and we trust Him.

Heaven Needed Mom

So many things of Mom I miss –

Her gentle hug and tender kiss.

I still can feel her warm embrace.

And picture yet her loving face

A mothers’ tasks are never done.

And Heaven must have needed one.

For angels came and took her hand

And led her to God’s promised land.

She’s surely kept quite busy there

While brushing little angels’ hair.

And making sure they’re dressed just right.

Not staying out too late at night.

Although there’s sadness, this I know –

She’s waiting there, her face aglow

I close my eyes and I can see –

Her arms still open

wide for me.
