ForeverMissed

Our darling Trish died peacefully on Saturday May 1st 2021 in Los Angeles, aged 89. She will be long remembered by family, friends, neighbors and former colleagues for her devotion to her family and to her faith; for her extraordinary kindness and selflessness, her optimism, spirit, strength, wit and wisdom.

Patricia was born in Potchefstroom South Africa on November 4th 1931, the daughter of English entrepreneur Charles Heyes and his Afrikaner wife Althea Steyn, a fashion designer. Following graduation, Patricia worked in the U.S. Embassy in Harare Zimbabwe for the Peace Corps as a translator, and later as executive assistant to the managing director of Royal Dutch Shell, which had started drilling for oil in Africa in the 1950s.

Patricia married Irish civil engineer Patrick Burke, and soon afterwards she devoted herself to rearing her growing family and supporting her husband, who was working in Zimbabwe on some of the premier public works projects of the time, including the Umtali Hills Irrigation Scheme, the Kariba Dam Hydroelectric Project, and several water schemes supporting the biodiversity of one of the world’s most important wildlife preserves: Hwange National Park.

The couple lived and worked in Canada, Zimbabwe, England and Wales, before settling down in Ireland with their daughter Felicity and two sons Thomas and Kevin. Following the untimely death of her first husband, Patricia married Patrick Fullam, together the couple had a son Mark. Patricia re-entered the workforce in Dublin, this time as assistant to the principal of the school her three sons attended.

In retirement Patricia devoted herself to volunteering. While living in New York with her son Kevin she worked tirelessly for many organizations, including Manhattan food pantries, and for the American Museum of Natural History on the electronic version of Charles Darwin’s manuscripts in which Darwin recorded his travels to the Galapagos Islands. Patricia also made lengthy visits to Alabama where her youngest son Mark resides and where she worked as a volunteer in the hospital and school systems. Patricia forged lifelong friendships wherever she went.

Patricia is survived by her four children: daughter Felicity, three sons Tom, Kevin and Mark; and her granddaughter Kyra.

In accordance with her wishes, and after a family service at Hollywood Forever cemetery, Patricia’s ashes will be scattered at sea joining the global conveyor belt on a leisurely 1,000 year tour around the world’s oceans.

I’m not sure where to start, Mom was so extraordinary and special to me. We shared so many great moments, we can chat for hours talking about any and everything. So many laughs and tears those memories and conversations will live on in my heart forever. I learned many lessons from here, only a parent with much love for a child would share.

I know she is in better place now looking down on me, nodding her head in approval saying, “you little shit!” .
I will miss you Mom Patricia; may you Rest In Peace.

To Felicity, Tom,Kevin and Mark, my condolences for your lost, my thoughts and prays are with you all.

Love Ricky……

It saddened me to hear of Aunty Patricia’s death. I have fond memories of living with her in Dublin with Kitty and Mark. She had a wicked sense of humour and was so devoted to her family. She was very kind to me during that time and I will always remember her for that kindness. My deepest sympathy to Felicity, Tom, Kevin and Mark and all her friends. May she rest in peace.

I am saddened to hear this world has lost another saint. Trisha was an amazing friend, Woman of God, loved her family like no other... a VERY strong woman and genuinely loved making a difference in this world. Now she is with her Patty she talked so much about. I will miss her calls and stories of her children and their success. She was always so proud of all of her children. I have messages saved on my phone so I can hear her voice and laughter. Trisha will be missed!!!❤️

Kevin, Mark, Tom, Felicity, your mom was a major piece of my life from the years 2000 to 2005 and she left a huge mark on my life as we spent our hours and days together, Rachel and myself would have her to ourselves as we lived our busy workdays and laughed so hard with our biscuit adventures, her car issues from time to time, her voice, her spirit her everything is so much more than a whisper even all these years later, she called me a little pup and we always had time for each other. I wish I had seen her in between those years passed but as we spoke from time to time here it would allow me to replay my memories, all such fond ones. I will miss her dearly and my heart is very heavy right now but I can feel the love she had in her life warm me even from here and that gives me some comfort in her great life well lived. Rest in peace Patricia, I will forever carry you in my heart
