Patty was my best childhood friend, we spent a lot of time together doing what girls do best. We would play in the snow, go inside her house to get warm and have hot cocoa while warming our feet in the oven, play jump rope, hop scotch and street games. Patty was a very sensitive soul and it never failed that when we sang duet at the pulpit in the Newburyport Salvation Army, she would always cry. We also both knelt together at the Mercy Rail, asking for forgiveness, not sure how much sin 2 little girls had in their hearts. She loved to eat at my house because she loved fresh vegetables, especially carrots! We would treasure hunt for 2¢ bottles so we could buy 5¢ steamed crabs cooked over a metal drum by a Chinese man down at the wharf, we sat on a stump and licked our fingers wishing we had more. I remember her mother Ethel would wrap cotton rags around pieces of her hair so it would be curly for her school pictures. We went camping together with Sunbeams and Girl Guards at Camp Wonderland, Camp Northfield and Camp Sebago...memories of campfire singing "Shunny Money Dunny Money Dash Qui Quo Qui Qio", drinking "bug juice" and sleeping on double cots in cabins, crafts on rainy days and worship. Also Ladies Home League, Bible School, Junior Soldiers and Corp Cadets, singing in Market Square for Open Air and inside and outside of nursing homes at Christmas time. We both were often ambushed (lol) by older girls who tossed mud cakes at us or teased us, both of us running home crying but right back in the old neighborhood the next day! We lost touch in later years after we both moved to other states but I was always searching for her, thankfully we reconnected through email and telephone conversations. Before Patty transitioned to Heaven, she was planning to drive to my house in Maine so we could take a trip to Canada to get her mother's birth certificate, sadly that didn't happen. Rest in Peace Sweet Angel.
