Peonies

March 6, 2014
When I bought my first house, Pat started a tradition of giving me thumbs from the peony plants at her house every time I saw her. This was especially meaningful since they were from plants given to her at her first house in Lakefield by her parents - who had gotten them from her grandmother's house in Norway. I treasure those plants still, and am honored that she shared them with me. It says a lot about Pat that she could be so generous and loving with the daughter of her ex-husband's new wife. We were a very "modern" family, and she is still known by my older daughter as Grandma Pat. We loved her and have missed her since her move to California, and are so sorry about her passing. She was one of a kind in the best way possible.

Camping trips

March 5, 2014

Thank you to the Bach family for the wonderful picture of the camping trip!  Those camping trips were stories she loved to talk about!  She shared how much simpler it was back then- when you could let your children go for hours to play and not worry about them.  Once she said, "Those were the good old days and we didn't even know it".  These were strong memories for her!  She loved the Bach family.  Toby and Maryellen came to California about 2 years ago and they were at my Dad's house and Jay picked up Pat from Lavender Hills and brought her over for dinner.  I don't think she had seen Toby for many years.  As soon as she walked in, her face lit up, "Toby"!  She knew him immediately.  It was really special.
