I will so miss my conversations with dad. He loved to talk through the details, ask questions and really get to the core of the issue. He had such insight, especially related to the current political happenings. I loved discussing investments, films, books, family and whatever he enjoyed discussing. He remained smart as a tack to the end.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Jan, Charlie, Patty, Kathleen, my dearest friend Jackie and her son Tanner on the loss of such a great man. Jackie's parents were like surrogate parents to me. Pat was a man whose presence was known when he was in a room. He loved a meaningful conversation but I also was pretty good at telling a joke. I loved the mutually supportive relationship he had with Jan that served as an example for me for how a relationship should be. Even when he was laying down the law for Jackie and I he always had a mischievous Irish twinkle in his eye. I am so glad I had a chance to sit and talk with him for quite some time at Tim's birthday party a few years ago. He was a great man who loved and looked out for his family and I look forward to the opportunity to play tennis with him when we meet once again. Your family is in my prayers

I am so sorry for the loss to all of his family and friends. This goes out especially for his wife Jan who will miss her companion of so many years. May God bless you and keep you in your time of grief and provide you strength in the days ahead. You have always been a strong woman and he would want you to remain so now and into the future.

I had the pleasure of growing up with Pat and Jan as surrogate neighbor parents. I was a bit precocious and used to call Jackie at 1:00 a.m. to see what she was doing. One evening Pat answered and I froze. He said " Chrissy I know this is you and it's a bit late" then he laughed and hung up. It became an ongoing joke for the rest of our lives. He was a good man. He raised good kids. He had a beautiful loving wife. I will miss him. My heart goes out to you all.... Jan, Kathleen, Patty, Charlie, Tanner and finally my dear friend Jackie. I love you all.

My dad had an indomitable spirit. I will miss him always and love him. So saddened by grief but happy he is at peace and the knowledge he is with God.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

I only met the man once but I have learned alot about him from his daughter Jackie. A very strong person to have overcome all the obstacles he had put in front of him. AND he raised a wonderful daughter - Jackie! So sorry for your loss. It sounds as if he lived a very full and meaningful life.

My first experience with Pat McDonald was a little over 26 years ago when I married his first born, my lovely Kathleen. He and Jan came into Columbia in the middle of an ice storm to attend our wedding. Pat really epitomized the men of his generation - coming into manhood in the early 50's. He certainly had lots of triumphs. He had charisma and a way of talking to people. When he talked - you listened. It was a talent and a charm he had. He was not just my father-in-law - he was my friend. Godspeed my friend.

Dearest Jackie - I am so sorry for your loss. What a lovely tribute your family wrote for your dad. I wish I had the chance to meet him. Funny, charming, hard working and he and your mom raised a large loving family. What a full life he had. I am so glad your family was there to say goodbye. Much love and prayers to all of you for peace and strength during this time.
