ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Pat Sullivan. He touched so many lives with his love and his humor and his passion for all things sports...especially Chicago Sports Teams. Go Bears! Go Cubs! Go Blackhawks! Go Bulls! Go Sox!

Pat was also a huge fan of nature and our National Parks.   In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to the National Parks Foundation at http://give.nationalparks.org/goto/Patrick_Sullivan

Patrick, Pat or PJ was born on December 8,1954.  He spent some years in Glenview before the family moved west to Arizona then California then back to Illinois.  This is where his love for traveling and moving around began.

He graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1973.  He then attended Milwaukee School of Engineering to learn to become a DJ.  From that he moved on to work in many different positions in the hospitality industry.  This is when he developed his love for the mountains and Western half of this country.

Anyone who knew Pat, knew his real passion was sports.  Especially the Chicago Bears.  He lived and breathed all their wins and losses.  He also was devoted to the Cubs...well... really...he liked any Chicago Sports Team.

Pat met his wife, Karen in 1988.  It was a blind date and, as they say, the rest is history.  They married in 1990 and spent 30 years together traveling, moving around the country and having adventure after adventure.  They finally settled in Tucson...their little slice of paradise.

Pat was the dad to four fur babies, Killian, Murphi, Gracie and Sullie.  He loved his dogs and spent his time making sure they were walked and well cared for.

Although Pat's sudden departure from this life is both sad and shocking, we all know he would want us to remember him with a smile on our faces and a Coors in our hands.

Cheers to you Pat Sullivan on a life well-lived.

Pat, we think of you often and talk about the few times that we shared together. We shared much more through Karen. We wished we had more time to do all the things that we had planned. Today we remember and toast and miss you on your birthday.

PJ, Patrick, Pat—you couldn’t have just one name like the most of us?
But makes sense that it takes more than one to do you justice.

Since babies, we’ve been both buddies and cousins.
Hangin’ with our tribe that almost counted in the dozens.

Family parties, Roosevelt pool, ice skating, street softball, we always found the time.
Especially our walks to McDonalds to get our French fries for a whole whopping dime!

Our childhood years seem to blend into an unending span of simple celebration.
Until that day the Sully’s moved to Phoenix and brought about our separation.

I remember standing in the front yard of our home on Sequoia Trail,
Watching as your station wagon pulled away and like a baby I did wail.

But then you all returned to Glenview, and back to your roots.
Quite sure you were all sporting them fancy cowboy boots!

Then it was our turn to move out west after a few years
And once again saying goodbye brought on unending tears.

We were apart for most of our teen-age and early adult years.
Think we mostly survived them without causing too many parental fears.

Then Karen, (good for you Pat!) came into your life.
And you knew you were meant to be husband and wife.

We visited a few times when you lived in Mission Viejo.
Didn’t last long, though as soon you said, we gotto go!

You two lived so many places--Grayslake, CT. Wisconsin, just to name a few.
It was a bit exhausting for the rest of us to keep up with the two of you!

Ah, then you finally made it out west for what became the duration.
In Tucson, it seems, you found your zone in the Southwest nation.

This made it easy for you both to head to what Lanny refers to as the left coast.
Gave us so many opportunities in person to have toast after toast after toast!

There was Petco Park, seafood dinners, concerts at Humphreys by the Bay,
New Year’s Eve at an Irish pub and Thanksgiving Day.

You and Karen made it over for many a party at the Spruce Street house.
Where you’d employ your famous Irish goodbye and scurry away like a mouse.

I’d give anything to once more clink with you a cold glass of beer.
But instead, I will have to settle with raising one, to you my dear.

In my thoughts and in my heart you will forever and ever remain.
You’ve given us all so much ground to cover in our walk down memory lane.

PJ, Patrick, Pat, as both my cousin and my friend, you are the best.
And, now my darlin, its time, in peace, for you to always rest.

With so much love,
Nanc

Mr. Sullivan,
I will always be grateful for having met you and spending time giving me your 'counsel' on every topic we managed to bring up...from helping out with our home projects to traveling destinations to our passion for all things Harley-Davidson, and where can you get a good beer around here! The time was far too short, but the quality of that time spent together remains as your signature to what a caring person you were to me and all the people around you whose lives you touched. I am honored to have know you Patrick...God speed to your just reward!

Lee and I didn't know Pat for long, just 5 years or so and we've only met up a few times but we always felt a close connection that made our time together easy and fun whether at your house or ours. I'm sorry that we didn't have more time to take on some of the other adventures that we talked about.  Know that we will always be here for Karen and will care for her. Rest in Peace.

We will miss your smiling face whenever we visit our sweet cousin, Karen. You were always so gracious to all of us when we got together. We just kind of took over your house when we were all there. So glad all of us are finally close by so we could get to know one another again...God's blessings and may you rest in peace!

Love,
Ronnie & Nancy

Pat, my dear husband, we had 30 special years together as husband and wife. Oh the places we have been and the things we have seen. All so much better because we did it together. You made me a better person just by being at my side. I will miss you every day but will smile when I think of you and the love we shared.

I really got to know the Sullivan boys  when they moved to Phoenix in about 1961.  I was a student at ASU but I would come home on weekends.  Our homes were only 1 1/2 miles apart. I always had my baseball glove w me when I went to their house.  They always wanted to play catch and I was always ready to do the same.  Pat was a good little baseball player at 6 or 7.  After I graduated, I had to wait 6 months to attend US Coast Guard Officer Candidate School.  I moved back to Glenview and worked Painting houses w Uncle Bud.  It seemed like 3-4 nights a week one of the older Sullivan boys had a bb game and I made it a point to watch them at Roosevelt Park. My memory was that Pat played catcher.  The better ball players at that age were either a pitcher, catcher, SS or 1st baseman.  As long as the Cubs were playing, so were the Sullivan boys!  Great memories in our little town of Glenview.   Cousin Bobby

Some of my favorite memory's of Pat is when we grow up on Dewes  st. in Glenview we were lucky enough to live across the street from a large field. From spring till fall we would play baseball with our neighbors almost every day. Then when Butkus and Sayers season started we brought the pig skin to field purposely clobbered each other. When winter hit the fireman down the street would open up the fire hydrant flood the field and it was hockey till the ice melted then it was time for baseball. I will miss our conversations and debates about our Bears. I will always miss and love you.

Pat and I were born a week apart, he in Illinois, me in Phoenix. That meant of course that Aunt Kay and my mom were pregnant at the same time. When the Sullivans moved to Sunnyslope, they were just a few minutes away from our house. We all would cram into their little inflatable pool in the summer and have the hose running to keep it full since we displaced all that water quickly. Pat and I had a special bond. Somewhere between ages 5 and 8, we decided we wanted to get married (sorry Nancy Norton and Karen). The Sullivans moved from Phoenix before we fulfilled that goal, but that special connection always remained for me. It had been decades since I'd seen Pat when we had our family reunion in Oracle 4 years ago. It was soooo good to see him and we kept in touch on our birthdays after that. While I know he is in a much better place in his spiritual home, it is just so sad that he is gone from our lives here. Thank you for taking good care of him all these years Karen.
