PAUL JAMES COCORLES

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father.  Paul James Cocorles passed suddenly at home, surrounded by his wife, Sherry, his son, Jonathan, and our dear family friend.

  • Paul was born in Manhattan on March 2, 1956.  As a youth Paul enjoyed summers in the Catskills with his family, playing basketball with his friends, watching the night sky through his telescope and reading numerous books.

Paul went on to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University where he studied biology with an emphasis on cancer research. He also met his future wife Sherry and they were married in 1978.  They were blessed with a son Jonathan in 1981.

Paul moved his family to New England for a more rural and nature enriched life. They enjoyed long walks through the woods, weekly farmer's markets and fishing with family and friends.

In the late 80's, Paul and family returned to New Jersey, where Paul became an assistant to the owner of several dry cleaning stores, Crown Enterprises, for many years.

Paul very much enjoyed teaching and learning as well with his son and frequently visited the old Edmund Scientific for science projects.

Paul's love of nature was never more evident as when he worked for many years with flowers, house plants and trees for a florist and landscaping company. Totally enjoyed arranging, delivering and tending to his many accounts.  He laughed every time he was called the 'Flower Guy'.

  • Later in life, when he was retired at home, he would be seen enjoying his wife's cooking while listening to one of his favorite musical groups The Moody Blues. Always available to lend a hand, Paul could be found in the gardens assisting his wife, or at a moment's notice and with a smile, ready to help his son with car repairs (whether Jon needed his help or not) or anything else he needed.

Paul will be sadly missed by his wife Sherry of 44 years, and his son, Jonathan as well as friends and family.

A private family service will be held on a later date.

Recently, I was trying to locate Paul Cocorles and I stumbled upon this tribute for him. Between the ages of 10 and 16, I lived on the cul-de-sac with my home adjacent to Paul and his family. Paul was a great wide receiver in street football, and I can remember throwing many passes to him which led to touchdowns. Paul was also a great rebounder and defender in basketball, and I cannot recall of one single game where he and I lost to another duo on the dirt court in my backyard.

I remember his interest in cancer treatment and a discovery of a cure based on the death of his father.

I remembk, listening to music in his bedroom, and oddly enough, it was the Moody blues that Paul shared with me.

I gave my brother the bad news today about the death of Paul and he said two things that I think are worthy of writing here.

My brother, Larry said Paul died too young, and he said that Sherry was a sweet person.

Thanks

Paul has been in my life for as long as I can remember. First meeting him as a teenager visiting at FDU, where it became apparent the love he had for my sister.
A joyous wedding followed of which I had the honor of being included in the ceremony.
Flash forward a few years and he became a dad, giving him more to love & making his family complete.
Paul didn't need much to make him happy only the simple pleasures in life, his wife, his son & a garden to enjoy.
Oddly enough it's his quirky sense of humor that I will miss the most, I probably rolled my eyes too many times to count listening to some of his tales, but it's those memories that I will hold dear.
Rest in peace my brother-in-law, you will be missed.

Paul’s infectious smile, his witty anecdotes and his laugh made it impossible to not love him. I have been blessed to have been a part of his life for over 30 years calling him not only a friend but, a Dad as well. Paul always had time for you and listened with balance and thought . To watch how he cared for his son and inspired how he was unconditionally devoted to his wife made him a man to admire. Did I know years ago that he would play an integral part of myself becoming a man ..I did not but, I soon learned why Paul was to be such a big part of my life. Rest easy Paul…you will be sorely missed but, fondly remembered.
