This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Paul Voltura. We will remember him forever.
Paul Voltura, 72, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 in Redding California.
He was born on November 6, 1947 in Batavia New York to Angelo and Angeline (Gringer) Voltura.
Paul had many passions including fishing, bowling, welding and cooking.  All of which he used to make a living.  Paulie was a friend to everyone he  met and could schmooze the best of them.  He was an active community member volunteering his cooking, welding or fly fishing services to many organizations in his community and beyond.  He loved his family and friends deeply and he had a lot of both!
He is survived by his son Greg (Nickey) Voltura, daughter Debbie (Tom) Shea and daughter Felisa (Adam) Westlake.  As well as 3 grandsons, Angelo Voltura, Eli Westlake & Davin Westlake and 3 granddaughters, Sara Voltura, Melissa Voltura & Addison Shea.
He has more Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces & Nephews than can be listed in one newspaper!
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you share your favorite story of Paulie on
https://www.forevermissed.com/paul-voltura/about. Donations can be made out to The Miami Project (on behalf of the Ricky Palermo Spinal Injury Tournament) and mailed to Debbie Shea at 9395 Shepard Rd. Batavia, NY 14020.
A memorial service will be held in the fall (possibly around his birthday) in California pending social distancing rules.

Dear Paul, I can't believe you have been gone for 2 years, it seems like just a short time ago we were boating on your favorite water spot talking about more summer adventures. I think about you often and listen to the voice messages you left on my phone-I'm so glad I have them to hear your voice. I know you are safe, which brings me comfort even though you are no longer with us. Gayle

I really don’t know where to begin. Paul was such a wonderful friend. He gave me my first job as a dishwasher and maid for the Pit River Lodge. Little did I know I was gaining a special family. Paul and Connie soon let me do many new things around the lodge and pretty much put me on the schedule whenever I came home from college. I learned so many cooking tips from Paul and wish I could have learned more! He always was sure to check in with a call or text. I am going to miss seeing him, his calls and friendship. Rest easy Paul! You are so loved and missed! I appreciate all you did for me! I think of you all the time.

Paul and I were the first two grandchildren in the Voltura clan. I was almost 7 years older than Paul so in our early years we were not close growing up. As you get older that age gap became less relevant and we got to fish and hunt with our parents, brothers Hank and Angelo. In later years I enjoyed his company when he would come back for visits and the highlight was when we went out west in 2004 to spend the week with him when he was managing the Pit River Lodge. He was so proud of what he was doing with the lodge and rightly so. He was a great cook, guide, and lodge manager. The locals really loved him. He even introduced my wife and I to Clint Eastwood who had come in for dinner. I will add a few photos of our visit and also earlier ones . We will all miss him and his stories.

I met Paul last October and we instantly knew we had so much in common. I felt I had known him forever, he was so easy to talk to. We shared many interests including love of our families and grandchildren. He would tell me about the fishing and hunting adventures with his grandsons and how much he looked forward to seeing them. He would talk about his children in New York and the visits he had and how he wanted to go back to New York soon because he missed his family and friends. He said the only regret he had was that he didn't raise his children in New York.

I introduced him to friends and a few family members who liked him immensely and couldn't wait until the next meal he would cook for us. I will miss his phone messages. "Where's my sweet wonderful lady?" Or my favorite "where are you sweetheart, it's 4:00 and cocktail time" "Call me" The Paul I knew was a warm, considerate, passionate man with a love and respect for family, friends and life. Rest in peace my dear Paul... You were taken way too soon...I will miss you terribly.

I will miss our phone calls, that Always needed up with cooking questions or recipes! Out New Years eve surf and turf dinner will never be the same! Paul was a very kind and generous man. He was so proud of his whole family, he was blessed to have family in both the places he called Home. He loved cooking for all of us when he came to NY - always making that special dish for someone. We talked frequently on his way to dialysis, the last time was only a week or so prior and like everyone has been saying, he sounded great, very happy and content. That's a great way to be at the end of our journey here. We will miss you, cuz! Rest in peace. ❤

My sweet, amazing friend - I was blessed to have you part of my life these past ten years. Your friendship comforted me when I lost my precious husband Doug and the urn you welded for his ashes will be my final resting place too someday. You stood beside me through thick and thin, made me laugh, and comforted me the few times we cried together and oh, the cooking we did! I am forever proud that you liked my cooking and said I made good sauce! What a compliment coming from you!

Christmas won’t ever be the same without you in the kitchen with me. Unless you can send ravioli from heaven and come too!

Hearing you bring life back to Doug’s welding shop was such a gift - it made home feel more like home again! I will miss our chats on the deck watching the sun set, hearing your voice on the phone saying, “Hi honey, are you home?” and knowing you were here on the ranch keeping an eye on me.

I’m so glad you met Gayle, she is a wonderful lady and I know she brought joy to your life.

You looked so happy, and healthy last Saturday night when you, Gayle and I sat together On the deck and chatted about the future. Who would have known those would be our last precious moments. I’m so blessed to call you one of my best friends. I can hear you telling me when I was sad and missing Doug, “Oh honey, don’t be sad, this life is just a blink of an eye, and then we will be together for eternity!” I will see you again Paul - until then - I love you!

Paul was such a light and always greated me with a smile. He always came into the clinic in such a good mood and said he missed his girls. I enjoyed listening to his story's and laughing with him. He would always pinch my cheek and say "what's up babe". His sudden passing deeply hurt me, but know he's up there cooking cannolis and smiling down on us. Forever will be missed.

Paul was born November 6, 1947 in Batavia New York. Fast forward to 1969 (because I don’t know a ton of details of his childhood just that it involved a huge Italian family and lots of gatherings) when he married my mom Charlene “Cookie” Kramarz. They had my brother Greg and then me Debbie Voltura Shea. They divorced when we were three and five and both went on to meet the two most amazing stepparents anyone could ask for, Russ Joy and Debbie Chamberlain. He and Debbie married a short time later and lived in Batavia. Things took a turn for the worst a few years later and He and Debbie divorced but not for long! He followed her to Florida, they traveled to California and he won her back and she remarried him!  They settled in California for many years. My dad welding and Debbie singing. Around 1991 they sadly divorced again when he moved to Northern California and started what I like to call “part two” of his life! To say he loved the outdoors was an understatement!  He seemed happy and content in his new surroundings. He went on to meet his third OK technically fourth wife Connie. They married and raised her three children Michael, Marie and Felisa. This as I like to say was when my dad became a true father!  Years later they opened up a restaurant named after my grandma Angelinas after owning the Frosty and doing many catering jobs.  He also was a guide, a great hunter and fisherman and he Even excelled early on in life at bowling. Even had a few 300 games!  Tragically he lost his stepson Michael to a hunting accident. It was at this time that I wrote him a letter after not speaking for Some years....Learning how short life could be. He came to visit and the rest is history. I couldn’t be more happy that we’ve had these years together even from afar. He’s come out to visit with us for weeks even months at a time and we will forever treasure those times and let’s face it what’s not to love about his cooking!  Which ironically he never did much of until he moved to Northern California!
I don’t know the exact year but he and Connie separated.  He stayed close with Felisa and her husband Adam and adored her two boys Eli and Davin!  I am so thankful that he had them in his life especially when his health was deteriorating and life and distance made it hard for us to be there. My brother Greg and his wife Nickey married in 1992 and had Angelo, Sara and Melissa. My husband Tom and I married in 2009 and along with my two step-sons Dylan & Kyle Shea, had our daughter Addison a year later! He loved his children and grandchildren probably more than we knew. He sure lead his life on his own terms and flew by the seat of his pants most of the time but that’s what made him who he was. He made friends wherever he went, I joke that he was Norm from cheers because everyone knew his name!  He loved the Polk-a-Dot restaurant in Batavia I think from the day he was born and frequently visited it when he was home! No one ever forgot him in Batavia!  He had his own way of being unforgettable!  As we grieve and then our lives go on he will be forever in our memories and in our hearts.  We love you Dad!  ❤️  I am writing this to summarize what I know of his life so that his East Coast and West Coast families can come together and know him a little bit better. I’m sure some of the details may not be entirely accurate but you get the idea!  Thanks to everyone who loved him and tolerated him too!

Tobias Brothers love Chef Paul

November 17, 2020
Hello friends

A few years ago my brother Don and I are asking around Fall River Mills, “hey where is Paulie hanging out?”. We would always run into him somewhere in town and catch up... either at Chatty Kathi’s or Rick’s...anyhow everyone knows Paulie so they say he is cooking at the High Grade Room at the Niles Hotel in Alturas. We call down there to verify... yep he is cooking tonight. So brother Don and I pack up some wine just in case...and drive over from the Hi-Mont to get some dinner with Paulie. So we ask the waitress to just let the Chef cook whatever he wants for us. About ten minutes later Paulie comes out from the kitchen — he figures it is us and that started a long evening and night of eating and wine tasting...Paulie sat down with us for about 5 hours and many bottles... great times and great memories. Many times afterward, Paulie told us what a great evening that was...unforgettable man ...we love Paulie
