On April 10, 2021, after his battle with lung cancer, Paul W. Gariano was peacefully called home at the age of 76.  He is now free from pain and restless grief.

He was born in Wilmington Delaware on April 6,1945.  Loving son of  the late

Grace Patterson(nee Gibson) and late George Patterson.  Paul grew up in South Camden, Cramer Hill and currently resided in Camden NJ (where most referred to him as the mayor).

Paul is survived by his fiance Sandra Young and family, mother of his daughter Beverly Powell(nee Field), loving devoted Dad to Dawn Gariano, proud loving Poppop to
Samantha Massie(nee Gariano) and Christopher Massie, caring brother to Sarah, Jim ,Bill ,Emma, Grace, John, Chuck, Joe, Mike and in-laws, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Predeceased by his brothers Bobby, Thomas “Tippy”, George, David and sister Marie

He worked at Philadelphia Handle Company in Camden and the American Dredge, where he spent time  in Baton Rouge,  Louisiana surveying swamps filled with snakes. The irony here is that Paul's nickname was the “snake” back in the day.  Paul also became the painter of the family. He first painted his mother's house in Cramer Hill and allowed his daughter to help. He taught her his skills and she became the family painter as well.

He had a creative mind and artistic talent and enjoyed making crafts and gifts for everyone. From plaster plaques to homemade cards and wooden magnets.  He called himself  “The Magnet Man” and had a little jingle he would sing, “who can make you smile, the magnet man can”.

Paul was a kind and generous soul with a giving heart.  He enjoyed making everyone laugh and smile.

He loved to sing and dance. If it was your birthday, you received a call and were sung to.  Just like his mother use to do.  He had a couple favorites he would always sing; “Still of the Night” and “Hang on Sloopy”. Doing the jitterbug was his favorite dance and he made up a few of his own moves too.

His favorite past times were going to the racetrack or watching his horse racing channel on television, taking walks, going to the casinos and taking bus trips to Atlantic City and Philadelphia.  Paul lived his life to the fullest leaving us all with memories to treasure.

He did it his way to the very end....
