In loving memory of Paul Marble
This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Paul Marble. Paul was born on April 4, 1964 in Chico, California. He was a competitive swimmer from a very young age, and swam for Pepperdine University, where he also graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He was a man who lived with enthusiasm his entire life, and he maintained strength and steadiness even when life challenged him. He was preceded in death by his sister Cindy, and is survived by his parents, Floyd and Peggy Marble, his wife Elizabeth Marble, his beloved daughter Samantha Marble, his brothers Duane (and his wife Katherine) and Craig (and his wife Kari). Paul was loved by many and will be missed dearly by his family, good friends, colleagues, and customers.
We invite you to share your thoughts, prayers, stories, and memories as well as any pictures or video you may have. Let's celebrate the life of this great friend, brother, son, husband and father.

Love you brother...
I think of you often and still grab the phone to call and then remember...
Just spent time with old friends in Seattle - Scott cooks in a way that reminded me of you and how you made your kitchen hum! I shared bites with you!
Love your little bro
I sure missed our usual silly birthday call to each other on April 4. Can't believe a year has passed since you left us. Sending you love, dear brother. Hope you are soaring light and free. I love you and miss you.

I really liked Paul so much, he definitely left an impression on me. I know Paul from work, He would walk into my office with that smile of his, and we would talk for a few hours, about, work, life, and always about football, he sure loved those Niners. I am truly going to miss him.
Rest in peace good buddy!
Scott,
I had hoped to tell you in person but this will have to do: Today I received my acceptance letter to attend Pepperdine, beginning in the fall, to pursue my masters degree in teaching with a teaching credential.
I applied in early March and was excited to tell you. Go Waves! ;)

When I think back on my greatest memories of Paul, I think about his wonderful laugh, his beaming light of joy, and his contagious love. I think about how he always filled the room he was in and cared so deeply for those close to him. He was always there to help me when I needed a place to stay in LA or a word of advice.
To Paul, if you're listening, you should know that were right about the difficulty of living in Los Angeles. Yes, it is really hard to live out here. Yes, it is expensive and yes, jobs are hard to come by. I think it would make you smile that you were right. But I also want you to know that I am forever grateful that I didn't listen to you this time. I have a much greater appreciation for how hard you worked to provide for your family. I feel closer to the parts about you and your family that I love and have been so important to me. And mostly, I can be close to your parents during this time.
I love you all so much!

Marble Ale sign
When Kari and I were living in Washington, DC, we started homebrewing. Paul caught wind of this and asked what the name of our brew was. When the next Christmas holiday came, he had designed this sign for us and had a buddy make it. When it came to gifts for others, Paul was very thoughtful and creative!
Wish you were here...
Mark Spitz Relay
The newspaper clip that Darrell posted is from April 1973. Mark Yetter was our coach and the four of us (Paul Vanhoven, me, Paul, Darrell DiGiovanni) were 8 and unders at a relay meet. There were 8 relays and we won 7 gold medals and 1 bronze. Our coach Mark called us the 'Mark Spitz Relay!'
