Her Life

"Sunrise to Sunset"

May 15, 2013

Pearlee was born "Parelee Henderson" to Ed and Miranda Henderson on February 27, 1934 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Later in life she came to Camden, New Jersey where she then married Rex Ross of Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 35 on August 20, 1969. Also during this time, Pearlee converted to Islam whereas she then assumed the name Sister Captain Pearl Muhammad. Pearlee (Pearl) devotedly exhibited a loving and giving spirit of selflessness. So, it wasn't surprising that the occupations of a Childcare Provider in her home for many years at 2945 Line Street, Camden, New Jersey, and a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for over 20 years at Cooper River Convalescent Center was exemplary of her persona. Pearlee divorced Rex Ross on October 12, 2006, thereafter regaining her maiden name of Henderson. Pearlee, Pearl, Aunt Pearl, Sister Pearl, and Sister Captain Pearl Muhammad, was also known by all for her cooking of Family Dinners and cooking donation specialties to the Masjid. Her Banana Pudding, Butter Pound Cake, Apple Pies, Lemon Meringue Pies, Bean Pies, and Whole Wheat Bread will especially be missed by her natural and muslim families. Pearlee (Pearl) lived in her home at 2945 Line Street, Camden, New Jersey from January 31, 1977 until her unexpected death on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 2012. Pearlee (Pearl) is survived by her older sister and two younger brothers--Cora B. Gordon, Charles Henderson, and James W. Henderson. She is also survived and will truly be missed by a host of cousins, nieces, great-nieces, great-great nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-great nephews and dear friends.
