Peata My Mum

November 25, 2011

BBMy earliest rememberance was of the first time when we lived in Kaiwha Road Waitao at the time of WW2 and we has a two roomed shack food was very scarce then because of the war oversees. There was Dad, you, Teresa, Maggie the baby and I living there, Dad would bring home rabbits pipi and titiko, herrings and parore mudfish he caught from working on the Dairy farm in Ngapeke and you would roast or stew. or braise rabbit with homegrown vegies, make us rewena bread. That was to be our daily meal along with homegrown veges and fruit until I was 12, you fed and cooked for us. Every day and wherever we went whether to a shop or walk down the road Dad would start our daily prayer to keep us safe. I remember when you took over the choir it was December 5th 1954 and became dedicated to the Takutaimoana choir till you passed away. We never wanted for anything you sewed and knitted all our clothes and only our shoes were brand new. You took us on our monthly visit to your parents Dairy farm at Pukekohatu which is now called the Farrell Homestead. There were many a times you struggled with babes in arms when we travelled to Ratana and carrying bags those were the times I tried to help I was only 7 then. You dedicated yourself so much to your Family close and extended, your Haahi, your marae at Tahuwhakatiki and later Tamapahore I shall never forget Mum how you unselfishly gave of yourself to us. It is so hard to write without crying all the little and big things you did, sometimes it is a song that reminds me or the laughter of a child love you always Mum now and forever will always remember you
