His Life
December 21, 2012

Peter was a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandpa and adored great-grandpa. He was born on May 7, 1924 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and died on December 7, 2012 in Santa Ana, California from injuries sustained in a fall.

He was one of eight children of Ukrainian immigrants Samen and Julia (Holub) Prokopchuk. After service in the Royal Canadian Airforce during World War II, he married Helen Mularski from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1946. They moved to California in the early 1950's and became naturalized citizens. They settled in Garden Grove in 1956, where they raised their two children and lived for more than fifty years.

Peter worked for over thirty years as a Boilermaker (L.A. Local #92) and was a long time member of Garden Grove Elks Lodge #1952.

He liked playing cribbage, eating Cheetos, and watching sports, especially hockey, baseball and basketball.  He enjoyed many outings to the Rose Bowl and Pauley Pavillion to watch the UCLA Bruins.  He loved singing with his kids and grandkids, especially while driving...even if he didn't know the words to the songs!

Peter was a gracious host, and was always available to assist anyone with home repairs, hospital visits or errands.  He  was a loyal Red Cross blood donor for many years.  He was well known to family, friends, and neighbors for his gentle manner, giving heart, and witty sayings.

Peter was predeceased by his parents and six of his siblings. He is survived by his brother Jim, his wife of 66 years, his two children - Kenneth G. Proctor (Marcia) and Judy Proctor Lemen (Bob); four grandchildren - Andrea Proctor Subhawong (Ty), Matthew Scott Proctor (Sarah), Matthew Peter Lemen, Kathryn Grace Lemen (fiance Mike Caruso), great-grandson Kai Julian Subhawong, sister-in-law Patricia Wanda Mularski Smith, numerous nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Jack Bushman.

Peter's family thanks the staff at Meridian in Anaheim Hills for contributing to his enjoyment of life, and the staff at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for their care and concern during his final days.

He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him.  A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday January 27, 2013 in the Fireside Room at First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, 7702 Westminster Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Alz.org) In Memory of Peter Proctor.
