Chief Peter Kehinde Asu was born on May 20 1942 at Erinmope, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. His father was Pa Fasaun Asu while his mother was Madam Awobimipe Asu, both of blessed memory. His twin sister is Madam Felicia Taiwo Adako.
Chief Peter Kehinde Asu had used a four-year festival in Erinmope-Ekiti to estimate his age. When he celebrated his 70th birthday, it was discovered he had skipped a period when a lady they were older than, who was equally educated, stated to his twin that she had celebrated her 70th two years before whereas they were two years older than her. He was therefore 77 years old at the time of his passing.
Through the free education system introduced by a group led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the old Western Region in 1955, he was forced to go to school. He started his primary education at St John's Anglican School, Erinmope-Ekiti. He attended Obasola Memorial Modern School in Ushi-Ekiti in 1960/61. Thereafter, he got admission to Ekiti Parapo College where he finished the West African School Certificate Examinations in Grade II with distinction in Mathematics and Physics in 1966.
After the secondary school education, he went to Lagos to look for employment in January 1967. When he was asked to apply for the post of a trainee account in Messrs. Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co, he asked the man introducing him to the job if there was no other job he could apply for other than a trainee after a good grade in school certificate examination because at the time he only knew of trainee carpentry, trainee bricklayer or trainee tailor and so on.
He was finally employed by Messrs Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co which became Peat Marwick Ani Ogunde & Co and later KPMG Nigeria to be a trained Chartered Accountant.
At the time, Chief Asu was employed by Messrs Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co, he had two other offers i.e. admission at College of Education, University of Lagos and employment with the Post & Telegrams Training Department of Ministry of Communications at Oshodi. He was confused about which one to choose. He contacted his former Physics Teacher at Secondary School, now Prof L.B. Kolawole who told him he didn't know anything about accountancy. Prof Kolawole requested him to find out more about the course and discuss further with him. He later told Prof Kolawole after enquiry that if he could work hard, within 5 years, he would be a qualified chartered accountant earning £1,000 per annum.
When his teacher heard this, he advised him thus: "Unless you have special interest in teaching, the course you are doing is superior to any advanced teachers' college. Make the sky your limit. Anywhere you are, appear as if you do no know what was happening. Always understudy the environment." He studied for the professional examinations of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of United Kingdom, qualifying in December 1972 without failing in any of the sections of the examinations.
After qualifying as a chartered accountant, he was employed as a senior staff in the office where he trained with effect for January 1973. He worked very hard throughout the period he was with the company, responsible for the audit of several companies all over Nigeria among which were Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Berger Paints of Nig Plc, Nigeria Breweries Plc, John Holt Plc, International Merchant Bank Nig Ltd, Eko International Bank now Polaris Bank Plc, Nigeria Agip Oil Co Ltd, Costain Plc etc.
He was promoted to the positions of Assistant Audit Manager in 1977, Deputy Manager in 1978, Full Manager in 1979 and Group Manager in 1980 till he became a Partner in the leading audit firm of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria in January 1981. He worked in the firm throughout his working life from 1967 till 2004 when he retired as a Senior Partner.
Chief Peter Kehinde Asu was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).
He was the first Chartered Accountant to be produced in his home town, Erinmope-Ekiti and as at today, there are more than 60 Chartered Accountants in the town among which are five (5) of his children.
He was married to Chief (Mrs) Felicia Titilola Asu and Mrs Margaret Itunu Asu and blessed with 6 handsome sons and 4 beautiful daughters.
During this working period, he travelled to several countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, France, United States of America, Italy, South Africa, Australia among others.
As a result of his great assistance of employment to the youths of his community, he was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Aare Akorewolu of Erinmope Ekiti by His Royal Majesty, Oba J. O. Aina, the Obaleo of Erinmope-Ekiti in November 1991.
