Mr Ogidi, the Comptometer Operator at 63, Marina, turned around from his machine. He spoke in Northern Ekiti – ‘Peter this is Joshua from Etan; Joshua, this is Peter from Erinmope’. That was the beginning of a bonding that has now become a generational relationship.

We miss you, PKA!!!

Our condolences go to Chief Titi, Itunu, the great children and the blessed grandchildren that PKA left behind. Also to MOA.

We pray for journey mercies and a memorable celebration of the life of an Icon.

Tribute by Peter O. Omolayo (POO)

It is heart rendering for me to realize that PKA is no longer around.

As a trainee accountant I met PKA in Peat Marwick in 1981.

As Providence would have it a few months later I moved to a flat next door to his residence at Ketu. One way or the other he got to know that a trainee of his firm leaves next door. He came over to my flat and invited me to his house!

Right from there a father-son relationship began between us.

There are uncountable memories flooding my brain: from shared rides and lunches to being together at ICAN examination marking centers.
From all my children naming ceremonies to his first visit to my company in 1991.

PKA has a loving yet powerful personality that magnetized quite a number of us to become thoroughbred charted accountants

PKA was Brilliant, Hardworking, Full of Integrity, Very Loving and Accommodating!

He was always proud of his humble background and was never haughty about the lofty heights he attained professionally and socially!

He came, he saw and he conquered!

He has gone to have a well deserved rest!

May God be with his family and all the goods he left behind. Amen

Adieu PKA,

Oga, I met you in Peat Marwick(then Known as Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot &Co)And you took me out on Jobs as your main assistant. You taught me the tricks of Accountancy and Auditing with Passion.

Your advice on all issues and matters of life will remain indelible in my mind. You were an Epitome of humility ,simplicity and honesty. You were a lover of your Community and would do anything to assist.

We wined and dined together in an atmosphere devoid of master/servant relationship.

You loved life and you enjoyed helping People. This is evident in the number of people you encouraged to become Chartered Accountants just like you ,including your own biological children.

Your valued counselling  is part of the Legacy you left me. You were the Senior brother I did not have and  I know you are resting in the bosom of our Lord Jesus as your character and believe in Him stand as a great testimony.

The Wonderful  family you left behind will continue to benefit from the Legacy you left behind and I pray they continue to Soar into greater heights in their chosen Careers.

Your Brother and Friend,

Jide Adesoye

As I look back over time
I find myself wondering
Did I remember to thank you enough
For all you’ve done for us those early years?

For all the times you were by our sides to help and support us...
To celebrate our successes,to understand our problems.
For teaching us by your example, the value
of hard work, good judgement and integrity.

If I had forgotten to show our gratitude
enough for all the things you did,
We’re thanking you now.
And we’re hoping you knew all along,
how much you meant to us.

One of the major reason for coming to life is to impact humanity, and you did that positively daddy, you touched the life of people who were close to you as well as those you did not even know. You are a GEM daddy. I'm sure the heavens are still rejoicing to have you in its midst.
You were a great father and will sure be missed by everyone who's come in contact with you physically or in any other way. Your legacy lives on daddy, you will be in our hearts forever.

"You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Now there is in store for you the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to you on that day"

Tribute by Chief Oladipo M. Folorunso - aka Logi (Managing Partner, Folorunso Oladipo & Co)

It is very sad to hear that a great man like Chief P.K. Asu, an erudite Chartered Accountant, who through him his town, Erinmope-Ekiti became a town of professional Chartered Accountants finally gave up to death.
So it is true the Yoruba adage that says, “Igi to ba to kiipe laye”
What else can we say to death than that is an evil and wicked.
However, we have the joy to day that you lived a very fulfilled life. You touched the lives of many homes, especially in your hometown than anyone else in the history of the town.
You came, you saw and you conquered.
We pray that the good seed you sowed which germinated and produced good fruits in your lifetime will not stop flourishing and naturally immortalise your name for life.
Our brother, father and mentor, sleep on till we meet to part no more.
Adieu! Adieu!! Adieu!!!

Daddy Asu,
I have called you that since I joined the family.
You truly have been more than a father to me.
You made me understand what being selfless is, through your words and actions.
You were a true king who didn’t care about the crown.
You had a good eye for detail and always saw greatness in people. Your mission was to ensure everyone tapped into that greatness.
You would always reach out to this “young lady” to make sure I was okay and I was taking good care of your son and his young boy.
You taught me not to worry and just live.
God’s grace was evident in your life and you did your best to share it was us.
Thank you so much Daddy. I love you and I miss you.
You will forever live in my heart, in all our hearts.

We have lost a great treasure here on Earth... and I believe the Heavens have received a greater one.
You had such a big heart, always putting everyone else ahead of yourself
You were my greatest inspiration.
You never missed an opportunity to make an impact in my life,
I will never forget a day while I was a teenager, I got a well packaged lesson on history, hardwork, contentment and respect for others just because I had requested for some money for sardines to spice up my noodles. It was like you had planned the speech before hand. Ofcourse I didn’t get the money, but I got something far more valuable. I most likely didn’t realise it at the time though.
Even with your busy schedule, you always had time for us.
You helped with school, especially mathematics… Mum always referred me to you when the problem couldn’t be solved with BODMAS alone.
You were always there with a listening ear and with words of wisdom throughout my life.
You never missed out in sending a birthday, anniversary, new month and new-anything-actually text message at the turn of midnight, so you were always the first wish me well.
Every moment I spent with you was memorable, filled with your warmth and love
And even the moments apart, I spent working towards making you proud.
It saddens my heart that you are gone, there are still so many things I would like to share with you.
And I realise now that you are gone, how much I regret the occasional missed visits and lost time I could have had with you.
I know you are in a better place now and you would want for us to celebrate your life.
I will forever keep your cherished memories in my heart.

Tribute by R A Daodu EKPACO 1960-64 set

Peter was a man of destiny who emerged through crisis to lead his colleagues and ever since he never stopped aiming at the moon. This can be corroborated by his breaking of many barriers. He was determined to be an Accountant even though he didn't read economics and accountancy in school. By dint of hard work and home tuitions he emerged as a qualified Accountant. The news of his death was broken at the Lafarge AGM meeting. He served God and humanity loyally. Peter was a trail blazer and beacon of light.

May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

I heard the sad news of the death of Daddy Asu on the day of his death and felt saddened judging by all the good things he has done for the family and all the people that came across him.

I had the opportunity of staying with him under the same roof for some years and he took care of me as a son and provided all my needs. He also helped me to the profession I am in till today with no regrets whatsoever.

He was kind and nice to my family members and all the people that came to him for help. His death was very painful to my family.

May his soul rest in perfect peace and may God take care of the family he left behind

He was a reliable and dependable individual who cherished hard work, honesty and detested idleness and laziness. He was a shining example to us in our community. He loved Erinmope-Ekiti passionately. Chief, you will be fondly remembered for your love, passion, care, encouragement and good counsel, particularly in my early lifetime in Lagos in the late 60s and 70s.

I wish you stayed longer to be more useful for both humanity and God's kingdom. But God needs you now, since God loves you more who are my to query God's decision.

Your passing on to the great beyond quickly reminds me and confirmed the scripture that says: "The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, not considering the fact that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. His Life

The Exemplary Life of Peter Kehinde Asu

June 30, 2019
Chief Peter Kehinde Asu was born on May 20 1942 at Erinmope, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria. His father was Pa Fasaun Asu while his mother was Madam Awobimipe Asu, both of blessed memory. His twin sister is Madam Felicia Taiwo Adako.

Chief Peter Kehinde Asu had used a four-year festival in Erinmope-Ekiti to estimate his age. When he celebrated his 70th birthday, it was discovered he had skipped a period when a lady they were older than, who was equally educated, stated to his twin that she had celebrated her 70th two years before whereas they were two years older than her. He was therefore 77 years old at the time of his passing.

Through the free education system introduced by a group led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the old Western Region in 1955, he was forced to go to school. He started his primary education at St John's Anglican School, Erinmope-Ekiti. He attended Obasola Memorial Modern School in Ushi-Ekiti in 1960/61. Thereafter, he got admission to Ekiti Parapo College where he finished the West African School Certificate Examinations in Grade II with distinction in Mathematics and Physics in 1966.

After the secondary school education, he went to Lagos to look for employment in January 1967. When he was asked to apply for the post of a trainee account in Messrs. Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co, he asked the man introducing him to the job if there was no other job he could apply for other than a trainee after a good grade in school certificate examination because at the time he only knew of trainee carpentry, trainee bricklayer or trainee tailor and so on.

He was finally employed by Messrs Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co which became Peat Marwick Ani Ogunde & Co and later KPMG Nigeria to be a trained Chartered Accountant.

At the time, Chief Asu was employed by Messrs Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co, he had two other offers i.e. admission at College of Education, University of Lagos and employment with the Post & Telegrams Training Department of Ministry of Communications at Oshodi. He was confused about which one to choose. He contacted his former Physics Teacher at Secondary School, now Prof L.B. Kolawole who told him he didn't know anything about accountancy. Prof Kolawole requested him to find out more about the course and discuss further with him. He later told Prof Kolawole after enquiry that if he could work hard, within 5 years, he would be a qualified chartered accountant earning £1,000 per annum.

When his teacher heard this, he advised him thus: "Unless you have special interest in teaching, the course you are doing is superior to any advanced teachers' college. Make the sky your limit. Anywhere you are, appear as if you do no know what was happening. Always understudy the environment." He studied for the professional examinations of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of United Kingdom, qualifying in December 1972 without failing in any of the sections of the examinations.

After qualifying as a chartered accountant, he was employed as a senior staff in the office where he trained with effect for January 1973. He worked very hard throughout the period he was with the company, responsible for the audit of several companies all over Nigeria among which were Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Berger Paints of Nig Plc, Nigeria Breweries Plc, John Holt Plc, International Merchant Bank Nig Ltd, Eko International Bank now Polaris Bank Plc, Nigeria Agip Oil Co Ltd, Costain Plc etc.

He was promoted to the positions of Assistant Audit Manager in 1977, Deputy Manager in 1978, Full Manager in 1979 and Group Manager in 1980 till he became a Partner in the leading audit firm of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria in January 1981. He worked in the firm throughout his working life from 1967 till 2004 when he retired as a Senior Partner.

Chief Peter Kehinde Asu was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).

He was the first Chartered Accountant to be produced in his home town, Erinmope-Ekiti and as at today, there are more than 60 Chartered Accountants in the town among which are five (5) of his children.

He was married to Chief (Mrs) Felicia Titilola Asu and Mrs Margaret Itunu Asu and blessed with 6 handsome sons and 4 beautiful daughters.

During this working period, he travelled to several countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, France, United States of America, Italy, South Africa, Australia among others.

As a result of his great assistance of employment to the youths of his community, he was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Aare Akorewolu of Erinmope Ekiti by His Royal Majesty, Oba J. O. Aina, the Obaleo of Erinmope-Ekiti in November 1991.

Tribute by the Noble Shareholders Solidarity Association (NSSA)

August 24, 2019
Mr. Matthew Akinlade, President NSSA wrote:

Prior to meeting the Late Chief Peter Kehinde Asu at the Noble Shareholders Solidarity Association (NSSA) I was privileged to have heard so much about his professional feats as a Chartered Accountant albeit we had never worked together. Late Chief Peter Kehinde Asu had a distinguished career as a Chartered Accountant at Peat Marwick Casselton Elliot & Co. which later metamorphosed into Peat Marwick Ani Ogunde & Co., where he rose through the rank to become a partner, a position he held till retirement. Although unassuming in nature, Late Chief P.K. Asu was very thorough and had penchant for details and decorum.  Our dealings with him at the Association level confirmed the way he was usually described by professional colleagues – “a peoples’ partner”.  He was both humane and human in his relationship. As a member of NSSA, he was very reliable and dependable.  He later became Chairman of Statutory Audit Committees of many publicly quoted companies where he represented the shareholders creditably to the admiration of all. He was a committed member of our Association and defended the lofty ideals of the Association. Until his death in June, he came regularly to scheduled meetings and promptly too. Late Chief P.K. Asu will be sorely missed for his deep love and respect for our Association. He will be remembered for sharing freely his wealth of experience, in-depth knowledge on financial and economic matters, his wisdom and tacts in handling issues – be it sensitive or mundane.  His time and life with the Association could simply be described as that of dedication – for Chief PKA, as we fondly called him – “what is worth doing at all is worth doing well”

On behalf of all the Executives and Members of the Noble Shareholders Solidarity Association (NSSA), we wish to express our heartfelt condolence to the entire family of Late Chief P.K. Asu in general and the widows and children left behind in particular.  While we share in your loss, we are glad to have been associated with him and are confident that his legacies live on.

Adieu to a Great Friend, Financial Expert and Icon

August 15, 2019
Special Apostle Samuel O. Areola (JP) wrote:

To God be the Glory for a life well spent of my friend, Chief Peter Kehinde Asu, the “Akorewolu Of Erinmope-Ekiti.” He was the first Chartered Accountant and also the father of all accountants in Erinmope-Ekiti and Nigeria in general.
It is very sad to come to reality that Kehinde has slept to wake up no more; nevertheless, he left an indelible mark in the sand of time. He was given the grace to see the children, and the remarkable progress of those he lifted up in the land of the living. He was a resolute and very upright man with milk of human kindness; very strong love for the people that came in contact with him.
Peter Kehinde was a very open hearted, accommodating, loving, caring, coolheaded, easygoing and selfless gentleman.
It is very unfortunate that Peter Kehinde left us at this time; we loved him so dearly but we pray that we shall meet to part no more in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
May the good Lord comfort the wives, children and family Peter Kehinde left behind.
Goodnight Kehinde.
